Good riddance
dierregi8 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
As in most long-lasting series, some episodes of RD are better than other, being more focussed, tightly edited and even fun to watch.

This is not one of them. Far too much is going on in random order, starting from the Russian mafia taking hold of Ray. That was a major plot hole of previous episodes, like who would send Belikov's body straight to their partners in crime?

Anyway, the chief Russian behaves just like any other character in the show, never answering straight to a questions, but going a merry way round, like asking for an actor who pissed him off to be brought to him. Sort of unlikely.

Then Abby gets nostalgic and blabber over a glass of wine, Terry gets a date with a cop (how come that so many ladies find him irresistible?), Ray runs left and right as usual, the left being Hector having just solved the Marisol problem in an unorthodox manner.

Good riddance to perhaps the nastier character in this season, a whiny, self-centred, destructive, foul-mouthed woman whose only purpose was to add mayhem, but still... why not just let the event play as suicide?

And let's not forger depressed Teresa, baby Maria and Bunchy end grief-stricken Mick... As I wrote, entertaining but far too much stuff.

Kremlin Bleeds, Taj Mahal Bleeds,..well...TV also bleeds!

I think RD is in stalemate right now. Lots of things seem to happen (lots of murders, new characters like the Texan or Dmitri or Butch etc. etc.) but everything fades too quickly. Their treatment is all superficial. Like today's episode "Lake Hollywood" which looks and feels like a "filler" episode, especially if you be counting-in scenes like Abbie's "Layla" segment.

There are numerous plot holes here too, but I wont bother you with these since many members have pointed them out in the boards.

I think no one really cares about all the "drama" in Ray Donovan. Is there any viewer who gives a dime about Mickey's black singer's death? About Abby's cancer? About Bunch's wife? About Bridget's teacher? About Connor's addiction with guns and violence? About Terry's new flame?

The Writers are too blame. They jumped too many sharks. They just filling pages in their computers. No inspiration, no substance. They follow a norm that goes nowhere: Present an unbelievable situation and throw impossible to overcome obstacles every 10 minutes that will be ...resolved instantly and in a magical (read ridiculous or implausible) way. And it happened to a lot of good shows with potential like Suits.

Good TV bleeds.

Ray Donovan TV series
michael-1359522 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
You either like Ray Donovan, the TV series, or you don't. You cannot be half-pregnant so you cannot take bits of RD and like it and not others. The whole series is the show: NOT sections. Ray gets things done. He does it his way and succeeds 80% of the time -- just like real life. Things do not work out to plan, but that is the appeal of Ray Donovan. If he was always right, you would get bored. Ray is HUMAN; he makes mistakes, like the rest of us humans. Ray has to rely on others -- who let him down! Welcome to the real world!Everybody is let down by someone else! But: when Ray takes command and sets the record straight; or rights wrongs, there is no "Teflon Ray": you get the real thing! That's the appeal of Ray Donovan: hard hitting, no nonsense, take no prisoners, Ray! Want it fixed? Call Ray! He gets the job DONE!

Terrific season so far

Greetings from Lithuania.

I absolutely love "Ray Donovan" Season 4 so far, with only two episodes left. I'm so glad they finally didn't forget main plot line from previous season, and here its on its best. There are also some side plots as usual, and while i enjoying them all, maybe the whole side plot of Bunchy's "crazy" wife is a bit off, it is not a bad thing, but overall pacing suffers from it i think. Nevertheless, season 4 as a whole is just great.

If you have enjoyed previous seasons so far, season 4 is not to be missed for sure.

Stuck in the mud, sliding toward the ditch

Warning: Spoilers
Other series that I've watched have filler episodes from time to time. This one is in a filler season right now. The episodes are overfilled with characters who come and go for no reason.

This season, there are a few dramatic stories working apart from each other. The casting has been pretty good for the central characters since the beginning with no major fails until this season. First we have Lisa Bonet made up to look like crackhead, which just doesn't work. She plays sympathetic characters usually and is an accomplished actress, so she's miscast in the role of crack addicted crazy woman.

Stacy Keach plays his role well enough, but his role was just too minimal, so that's another case of miscasting. He's just too good n actor to have been wasted in such a tiny role.

The worst case of miscasting is Raymond J. Barry . Raymond J. Barry plays Raymond J. Barry, as a totally unconvincing Russian mob boss. Barry simply can't do accents. In fact, I've never seen him play anyone but himself no matter the name of the character he's supposedly playing.
