The previous teasers for The Blackcoat's Daughter director Osgood Perkins' next feature, Longlegs, have been very effective in building an aura of unsettling dread around the mysterious horror flick, but this latest trailer really takes things to another level.
Though the movie is still playing things relatively close to the chest when it comes to revealing specific plot details, this footage does give us a little more to go on, as rookie FBI agent Lee Harker (It Follows star Maika Monroe) becomes obsessed with tracking down a sadistic serial killer (Nicolas Cage) who targets families - and might just have supernatural abilities.
Harker has a personal connection to the killer (did she survive an earlier attack?), which leads her down an even darker path and into the world of the Occult.
Say your prayers, check out the new trailer and poster below along with the initial social media reactions, and...

Horror fans have been keeping a very close eye on director Osgood Perkins' next project, and the first social media reactions for the mysterious Longlegs are in.
These reactions are highly positive, and it sounds like the movie is a genuinely disturbing, terrifying experience.
Though Longlegs definitely seems to be keeping its biggest secrets firmly under wraps for the time being (and the teasers are all the better for it), we do know that the plot revolves around a rookie FBI agent (It Follows star Maika Monroe) attempting to track down a sadistic serial killer (Nicolas Cage) who targets families.
Cage's character has largely been kept out of the marketing, aside from one unsettling shot.
Check out the social media posts below, and keep an eye out for a new trailer.

2024 didn’t get off to a great start for Hollywood rising star Sydney Sweeney with the dismal critical response to “Madame Web.” But that’s one lull for the young actress in three straight years of ascendant stardom. And it’s a period where she’s dabbled in all sorts of genres: from rom-coms like “Anyone But You” to erotic thrillers like “The Voyeurs” to Sam Levinson‘s take on teen drama in “Euphoria.”

I don’t think there’s too many bigger fans of the V/H/S horror anthology franchise than myself. I’ve loved all three that have come before V/H/S/94 – they feature a range of brilliant directors and actors in original and gory short films. I loved that this newest movie would be hitting Shudder in time for Halloween.
We start with what is the wraparound segment ‘Holy Hell’ directed by Knives and Skin director Jennifer Reed. It shows a S.W.A.T. team slowly working their way through a building which is showing on various monitors or TVs, the videotapes that lead to each other segment.
And the first segment is ‘Storm Drain’ directed by newcomer Chloe Okuno. Shown as a TV news reporter and her single camera guy following up on a local mythical creature. There’s...

With their new horror thriller Guess Who, Tubi may finally have come up with a fairly original idea for one of their films. As far as I can tell, it’s the first film to use mummering as a major plot point. No, not mummies, mummering. What is mummering? Mummering is a Christmas-time house-visiting tradition practised in Newfoundland and Labrador, Ireland, and the City of Philadelphia. It adds a touch of Halloween to the season as people would dress in disguise and go door to door. If they were invited in, they’d give some kind of performance while their hosts tried to guess who they were.
Michael and Kaitlyn, his fiancée, are driving out to meet his family when they have to stop for gas.

The first trailer for a horror film that’s setting off people’s Apple Watch heart rate alerts has dropped.
While the new release arrived in the US in February, UK fans have been made to wait a little bit longer.
Titled The Outwaters, the film is a found-footage horror following a group of friends who travel to the Mojave Desert to make a music video.
What starts out as a straightforward film evolves into a “mind-bending trip through terror”, with actor-director Robbie Banfitch unleashing a “hellish” sensory experience on viewers, in the form of “unexplained sounds and vibrations”.
The synopsis explains: “Mysterious sounds haunt them, and when a menacing force descends, their horrifying journey into soul-shattering darkness begins.”
Following its US premiere, The Outwaters was branded a “deranged nightmare” by one Twitter user, who claimed it set off his Apple Watch’s “high heart rate” alert twice.

It was hot and cramped inside the small two-story building where the cast and crew shot “Documentary Now” last June. Despite the Oregon humidity, there was a lightness on the set where they were midway through shooting fictional cult documentary “Batshit Valley.” And despite the presence of Oscar nominees Owen Wilson and Michael Keaton, it felt more like an ultra-low-budget indie.
“Batshit Valley” serves as the two-part season premiere for IFC’s fiercely authentic parody of iconic non-fiction narratives, and also is the beginning for a show that must reinvent itself. Co-creator and star Bill Hader was unavailable as an actor in Season 3 due to his commitment to HBO’s “Barry,” and the show used this as an opportunity to bring in a brand-new assortment of talent.

Take a charismatic predatory gay man with a body perfect obsession, adept at reading people and with a knack for hypnotherapy and spotting the weak-minded. What results is a perfect 1980s-spawned California cult chronicled on film in a 22-year trainwreck of laughable devotion, hubris and narcissism. Tonight CNN presents its new documentary Holy Hell, the culmination of over two decades of insider footage from filmmaker and former member of the Buddhafield cult, Will Allen. In it he shines the spotlight on the cult’s creepy leader, Venezuelan immigrant Jaime Gomez, who also used the names Michel, Andreas and The Teacher. Watching people...read more...

The first time Will Allen picked up his camera to film the Southern California meditation guru whose charisma attracted Allen to join his group in the mid-1980's, the guru shot Allen a hard, disapproving look. "He never wanted me to make movies," says Allen, who was then 22 and a recent film school graduate. "He didn't want any record of anything. He was like, 'What are you doing?' He just looked at me, like, really evil." Allen persevered. He told Michel Rostand, who had anointed himself leader of Buddhafield, a tight-knit Los Angeles spiritual sect many would criticize as a cult,...

Film’s unrivaled access takes us inside the inner workings of a cult as never before to reveal a group that’s far more complex than you might expect
Part of becoming an adult means making a poor choice here and there. For the lucky ones, a pot of black coffee and a jog can sweat these out the morning after. For others there are lingering effects. When Will Allen started hanging out with a group of friendly and fit young people in California, he found a group of likeminded, artistic and philosophical peers looking for answers to big questions. He emerged 22 years later questioning his choice to devote his time, finances and energy to the group’s leader. A new film follows the Buddhafield group of the 80s and director Will Allen – who was in the group – talks about how easy it is to get caught up in cults
Perhaps the most disturbing part of Holy Hell – the documentary which premiered at Sundance earlier this year and is about a West Hollywood cult – is that life in the group doesn’t look that bad at all. Beautiful young people dance around in pastoral scenes, while an aviator-wearing leader expands their minds by seemingly doing little more than having a very good time.
Holy Hell director Will Allen joined the Buddhafield in the 80s. His film – made up of videos he shot while in the group – raises accusations that over two decades he, and other members of the group, were sexually abused by the cult leader, who now goes by the name of Andreas but was also known as Michel.

After escaping a 20-year stint in a cult, one hopes to salvage something from the experience — lessons learned, a better understanding of human nature, a new direction in life. If making a film about a cult, one hopes to have access to the cult’s videographer. As a former member and videographer of the group […]

From his perspective, Will Allen loved what he was seeing. A filmmaker from childhood, recent college graduate Allen was ordered to leave his family home after he came out to his mother as gay. In 1985, he fell in with a group of people who had coalesced around a spiritual leader known as Michele. Soon, Allen was happily adhering to a way of life that initially felt very fulfilling. It's at this point in Holy Hell, Allen's documentary about his experiences with the group, that Allen notes he spent 22 years following Michele. The Buddafield, as the group was known, was never terribly large; membership ranged from 120 to 200, according to the film. Growing the membership was not as important as following the multi-pronged...

Belladonna Of Sadness
Release Date: Coming Soon from Cinelicious Pics Written By: Yoshiyuki Fukuda, Jules Michelet (novel), Eiichi Yamamoto Directed By: Eiichi Yamamoto Starring: Tatsuya Nakadai, Katsuyuki Itô, Aiko Nagayama
When I heard about Cinelicious Pics’ plans to restore and release the long lost 1973 anime Belladonna Of Sadness, I was well and truly excited. I’m a huge aficionado of 70s-era anime, and this baby has been a “holy grail” of sorts for folks like me for a good many years — much desired but damn near impossible to obtain. So that being said, and with those expectations set freakin’ sky high, let’s see if ol’ Belladonna was worth the wait or will it just fill me with sadness of my own!
Belladonna Of Sadness, based loosely (and by that I mean hardly at all) on the French novel La Sorcière by Jules Michelet, tells the brutal tale of Jeanne,...

Watch: Trailer For Documentary 'Holy Hell,' Executive Produced By Jared Leto, Takes Us Inside A Cult
There have been many documentaries made about radical and potentially dangerous religious cults throughout the years, but "Holy Hell" — which made its debut at this year’s Sundance — has something that makes it stand out from the rest of the “cult-gone-wrong” docs: The film’s director was once a true believer. Read More: 13 Cult Films About Cults Directed by first-timer Will Allen, the film chronicles the filmmaker’s time in The Buddha Field, a Los Angeles cult led by a mysterious leader simply named The Teacher. Using actual VHS footage shot by Allen when he was in the cult, "Holy Hell" shows the rise and fall of what The Teacher referred to as an “anti-cult.” Jared Leto is executive-producing the film, and presumably he didn't get up to his "Suicide Squad" antics here. You can watch the trailer for "Holy Hell" below. It opens in limited release on May 20th.

"We wanted something different..." Are you ready for this? FilmRise Releasing has debuted the first trailer for a documentary called Holy Hell, from director Will Allen, profiling twenty years inside a religious cult called The Buddhafield. The doc premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year to much acclaim as it truly does include over twenty years of footage, since Allen joined the cult fresh out of school and became their official videographer. I saw the doc at Sundance and it's one of the most definitive inside looks at how a cult works, featuring interviews with many ex-members and so much remarkable footage. If you're at all curious, or intrigued, or baffled by any of this, I highly recommend catching this doc when it open this May. Here's the first official trailer for Will Allen's doc Holy Hell, direct from FilmRise's YouTube: In 1985, Will Allen became a member of The Buddhafield,...

Stories about cults aren’t difficult to come by, but it’s not every day you get a cinematic account from someone who’s actually lived the experience. Film school graduate Will Allen joined The Buddhafield in 1985, and spent the next two decades serving as the propagandist and trusted confidant to the group’s charismatic leader Michel — until […]

It’s not easy to break out in a star cast that includes Hugh Dancy, Michelle Monaghan and Aaron Paul — but place your faith in Kyle Allen, a notable newcomer in Hulu’s “The Path.” The 21-year-old plays the teenage son of Monaghan and Paul. The family members are devotees to the Meyerist movement, a New Age faith that has drawn comparisons to real-life churches like Scientology or The Way. Such belief systems are having a resurgence in creative content. Karyn Kusama‘s stunning indie “The Invitation” plays on a similar theme while the upcoming documentary “Holy Hell,” produced by Jared Leto,...

A documentary reminiscent of The Big Short on a smaller and less-successful scale, director Ted Braun’s Betting on Zero has a narrow focus and an unlikely hero: New York-based hedge fund manager Bill Ackman of Persing Square Capital. Moving beyond the CNBC hype and witty banter of Slate’s Money (a favorite podcast and my first intro to Ackman), the film evangelizes Ackman’s position and, in a certain context, can be seen as another prong in his attack on global nutritional multi-level marketing firm Herbalife. This, of course, is only a danger if you ignore the evidence presented by the film and your own gut instinct. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is — even if it’s listed on the NYSE.
It also doesn’t help that Herbalife is presented in roughly the same light as Scientology and the mysterious cult at the center...
