In this episode, Ash drinks 'Shemps' beer. Shemp (or Fake Shemp) is a term coined from the original Evil Dead referring to any secondary actor/actress that portrays a previously established character. This would be in the form of a limb (close up shots of grasping etc) or in heavy makeup. The term was created by Sam Raimi in reference to the Three Stooges who, at times, used a secondary actor to play Shemp; the actors role was called 'Fake Shemp'
Early on in 1982 Ash hands a bottle of liquor to a reluctant bystander who is played by the same actor credited as The Drunk in the present.
Ash mentions he went back in time to The Middle Ages. This is a direct reference to Army of Darkness (1992).
When they go through the time travel portal at the beginning, there is a poster visible for The Hills Have Eyes, just like in the basement of the house in the first film.
*Potential Spoilers for The Sopranos* When they arrive at the cabin, the song by Journey, "Don't Stop Believin'", stops playing at the exact same moment in the song as it does during the finale of The Sopranos.
