Weirdness reigns and Wendy kicks ass
josiahliljequist7 September 2021
This episode is completely bonkers, and in the best way possible!! Dipper and Wendy form one of the greatest survivalist duos this side of Oregon, and it is a joy to watch! Bill Cipher finally flexes and the show reaches its artistic peak. A truly fantastic, imaginative episode.

P. S. The weirdness bubbles are a highlight for me, and if you've seen it you know the extreme coolness I'm talking about!

Strange Doomsday

Warning: Spoilers
Warning don't read unless seen episode.

Man, all hell has really broken loose, from the amount of craziness you see your not entirely sure how the hell Dipper is going to win this one. I've seen a lot of weird in my life movies like "Valarie and her Week of Wonders", "Santa Sagare", "Donnie Darko" etc; this single episode no doubt joins their ranks. It's not kidding by it's title, the apocalypse looks like a Salvador Dali painting on maximum overdrive, you have to see it to believe it. Also I can't help but feel seeing all the weird creatures and everything Bill could make a great villain for the show "Star and the Forces of Evil" that show a trip.

The only bad things about the episode was Dipper does a really dumb thing that I thought was kinda out of character where he just simply goes out in the open to Bill and his weird poise with the journals out. Like what the hell Dipper, going to take them with no plan is fraking stupid let alone suicide. Though this could be because Dipper was a bit brainwashed by some of Ford's bad advice on taking things all by himself so I can let this slide. Also Zoos didn't have anything to do except show up at the last minute, which was disappointing.

Anyway we see Dipper pays for his miscalculated action when Bill burns the journal. Seeing that I knew that Dipper was in really deep crap, without the guidance of the journals Dipper is completely disarmed (thought to be fair the journals didn't tell him how to beat Bill). Seeing that truly shows that Dipper really is on his own.

I really liked seeing Dipper ditch the bad lesson Ford taught him and comes to a wise conclusion that to beat Bill he is going to need help. And that is I feel the main theme of this two parter, yeah Dipper is good but he's not that good. He admits he's better when his partner Mabel is around, though also his teammates/friends Wendy and Zoos. One person can win a battle but it takes an army to win a war.

It was awesome when we got to see Wendy again whom has been M.I.A. for much too long this season which I'll admit was one weakness this season had. But back to subject we discover that Wendy is a survivalist which is awesome and makes me hope we learn more about her in the future. Just seeing both of them work together was great it was kinda a brains and brawns dynamic going on, it was really cool just seeing her just beat the crap out of Gideon's minions as well as Gideon himself, let alone discovering that Gideon really isn't very heavy as Wendy was able to kick him like a soccer ball.

Just seeing both Dipper and Wendy again just felt so right, in season 3 (that is if it will be made, God forbid it doesn't) there needs to be more episodes with those two we need more dynamics to shake things up, let alone see Dipper hang with someone his age range; and if all possible have both of them hook up.

We then get down to a car chase, it was cool seeing both of them drive a vehicle that looked like the V8 Interceptor, obviously an homage to the "Mad Max" films. For a person without a license Wendy drove well, she should think of race car driving because she was awesome. One awesome and hilarious moment in the chase was seeing them drive though reality altering bubble much like the one's in an episode of "Red Dwarf". As they go though them we see their appearance alter, my favorite one was seeing both of them as live action counterparts which just cracked me up and proved a live action movie on the TV show is possible.

It then comes down to Dipper, Wendy, and Zoos entering the reality alter bubble Mabel is trapped in. Will the Mystery Squad succeed in saving Mabel and the world. To be continued.
