Nifty retrospective documentary
Woodyanders9 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This 25-minute retrospective documentary covers a good deal of interesting and informative ground on the making of the low-budget British horror shocker "The Mutations." Director Jack Cardiff admits he felt sorry for the real-life freaks used in the movie and made sure that they were treated with respect. Writer and co-producer Robert D. Weinbach openly reveals that he was inspired by the film "Freaks" by Tod Browning and relates a funny story about sideshow performer Willie Ingram freaking ladies out by popping his eyes out in front of them. Actor Brad Harris points out that he did his own stunts. Moreover, we also learn that the movie was made on a budget of $400,000 dollars, the first production designer walked off the film, and cinematographer Paul Beeson was a friend of Cardiff. Worth a watch for fans of the film.
