This is not a political documentary about present day Yemen and its problems, but a highly entertaining movie diary of an explorer's extreme trip through an extreme part of the world. It commences by showing the bureaucratic and other difficulties the team had to surmount in order to organize a tour on camels' back through Yemen along its ancient trade routes. More or less by accident the team gets involved into a tribal reconciliation meeting following a manslaughter. The trip itself turns into an ordeal of heat, unreliable guides, missing permits etc. But the rewards are stunning images of the the beauty of Yemen and the encounters with its warm-hearted people. Anybody familiar with the Mikael Strandberg's other works will recognize his particular style: the hand-held camera that he never seems to put down even in trickiest of situations and the ongoing laconic commentary which he is able to deliver spontaneously and unscripted as events unfold. The movie is clearly a declaration of love to this exotic country and its people. Well worth watching.
