Revenge movies can come in two flavors: a balls-out, action-filled romp, or a low-key slow-burn with quick flashes of violence. Bull, from director Paul Andrew Williams, is closer to the latter, a British take on a formula that is miles removed from the expected Guy Ritchie school of 'London Underground' crime films, of which we've had a lot. Neil Maskell stars as the titular character, a tough, no-nonsense and tight-lipped badass who returns to his hometown after a 10-year absence to get bloody revenge on his father-in-law, and local kingpin, Noel (David Hayman). Armed with nothing more than a large knife, Bull carves a bloody path through assorted underlings and other bottom feeders, hoping for redemption from past misdeeds. It's a grim, downbeat ride, with...

This was a two-disc DVD release, and most of its additional features are on the second. One that retains ,novelty is the original intermission/walk-in music, those stylised silhouettes of skyline against bright coloured backgrounds while an instrumental plays behind it. The scene selection menu is animated too, eight sets of four with the first shots set out to help you find things. Given that it's a musical it might have been nice to have the songs queued as well, but that would probably require an additional set of chapter marks.

Exclusive: Paramount’s genre division Paramount Players has tapped Night Teeth and I See You filmmaker Adam Randall to direct the horror pic Curfew.
The former Blood List entry follows a rebellious teenage girl who is sent to stay with her grandmother in a sleepy town whose quirky traditions include a curfew banning anyone from going out at night. When the girl ventures out after dark she discovers the murky truth behind the town’s mysterious history.
Randall told us: “This is a fun monster movie that harks back to Amblin movies of yore. There is an intriguing conflict between the teenage girl and the older generations but it also has the thrills and action of a monster movie. It’s a great script.”
Script comes from Isa Mazzei (Cam). Jaki Bradley and Kevin Armento did previous revisions. Dick Grunert wrote the original spec that made it onto the 2017 Blood List.

What happened? Somehow the American Music Awards turned out to be bizarrely undisastrous this year. As cheesy award shows go, this one has always been on a sub-cheddar level, usually held back for the holiday season and usually totally ignored. Ciara and Missy Elliott will team up to perform the song “Level Up,” and Ciara will also perform “Dose” from her upcoming album. Ciara hasn’t performed at the AMAs since 2005, which also marked her first nomination at the awards. She contended that year for Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist, and she was nominated again in that race in 2013, but she has yet to win. Missy Elliott, meanwhile, is a two-time winner for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Female Artist. That award is now defunct; the AMAs now award rap artists in a single gender-neutral category.

TNT is replenishing its pilot crop.
The Turner-owned cable network has handed out pilot orders to dramas Constance, starring Elisabeth Shue and executive produced by Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey, as well as Beast Mode, from writer David Schneiderman (Level Up).
Constance, written by Kc Perry (The Originals), is described as a fun, darkly humorous, veneer-stripping story about one woman's refusal to fade into obsolescence. Whew. We already know that Ciara takes sexiness to a whole other level, but her newest music video proves that the singer and dancer always has something up her sleeve. "Level Up" shows Ciara in her element, showing off those dance moves that have us in awe and attempting the same in the privacy of our bedrooms. The mom of two boasts about how she knows we want that yummy and honestly, she's not even wrong. The song isn't just about how everyone wants some Ciara sauce though, the singer lets everyone know she's living her best life and has no regrets. "I just keep elevating, no losses, just upgrading / My lessons, made blessings, I turned that into money," she sings. "Thank God I never settled, this view is so much better / I'm chilling, I'm winning, like on another level." Preach, Ciara, preach. No one will blame you for pressing that replay button,...

Ciara and Russell Wilson arrived in style to the 2018 Espy Awards in La on Wednesday night. The couple nearly set the red carpet on fire as Ciara showed off major leg in a high-slit yellow dress while Russell looked dapper in a navy blazer. Ciara and Russell have been regulars at the sports ceremony since they first got together; however, we missed them last year. While Russell is set to present an award tonight, it's also a big night for Ciara, as she's celebrating the release of her new single, "Level Up." As if that weren't enough, the couple also rang in their two-year wedding anniversary on July 6. See photos from their night out ahead.

There’s a glimmer of a good idea in “Unfriended: Dark Web.” Unfortunately, it’s already been exploited, and to better effect, in 2015’s squirmily relatable “Unfriended.”
The latter cost a million bucks to make and took in $64 million, so you can see why horror shingle Blumhouse wanted to revisit the well. But this time, the bucket’s pretty dry.
The retread jettisons sociological insight for a grim and generally joyless journey that feels entirely obligatory. Where the first film tapped into the Internet’s unavoidable underbelly — cyberbullies, trolls, obsessive Fomo — the second never settles on a persuasive Pov.

Ciara is taking back her narrative. Overnight, the diva dropped "Level Up," her first single since "Dance Like We're Making Love" was released in 2015—and the first single since she signed to Warner Bros. Records last year. J.R. Rotem produced the track for the singer's forthcoming seventh studio album, and it samples the Jersey Remix of "We Are Young" (used in the "F--k It Up Challenge"). The video, directed and choreographed by Parris Goebel, a.k.a. Parri$, features the ReQuest Dance Crew. The song's title cleverly references Ciara's controversial #LevelUp social media posts. In January, she reposted a video clip from John Gray's "He Who Finds a...

As the gaming industry prepares to descend on Los Angeles for the annual E3 Expo, Facebook is launching some updates to its own gaming infrastructure. Most notably, the social platform has announced fb.gg -- a destination filled with streams and on-demand videos from Facebook's top gamers.
Facebook has been courting the gaming industry since January, when it launched the Gaming Creator Pilot Program to offer financial support to streamers. Now, those creators will get more support thanks to the launch of the Level Up program, which will provide access to a feature that looks a lot like Twitch's subscriptions: By purchasing virtual goods during streams, fans can support their favorite Facebook gamers. Level Up partners will also be granted access to new Facebook live streaming features as those updates roll out.

Facebook wants to entice more video-game broadcasters — and their fans — to use its platform, rolling out several features that will ratchet up competition with category pioneer Twitch.
In January, Facebook launched a gaming-creator program, paying some top players to stream exclusively on Facebook.
It has now started to actively promote a new gaming-video destination that it quietly debuted in the past few weeks — Facebook Gaming, at facebook.com/gaming — that aggregates live and prerecorded video in one place. The social giant also has started letting a few game-streaming partners let fans subscribe as supporters to their channels, for $5 per month, a la Twitch, in addition to selling “Facebook Stars” to let users cheer for their favorite players (akin to the Twitch emotes available to paying members).
And Facebook is launching a new program, Level Up, for video-game streamers who are just starting out, to help them build a fanbase and earn money from their gameplay.

In case you missed it, a recap of the first season of Stranger Things is now available as a sizzle reel styled like an old school Eighties Nintendo-style video game – and it suits the show's nostalgic themes perfectly.
The two-and-a-half minute clip kicks off with synthesized beats familiar to early RPG gamers, accompanied by a clunky graphic that reads "Press Start." The recap, titled "Level Up," then chronicles some of the series' bigger moments: Eleven emerging from the woods, her many instances of Eggo-snatching and that incredible van flipping over the kids' heads.

I've long believed that Netflix's secret sauce is nostalgia. Consider how many of their popular original shows trade on concepts from the recent past (specifically between the 1970s-1990s): Stranger Things, Glow, The Get Down, and Narcos... even Marvel's superhero shows feel reminiscent of 70s genre classics like Serpico, Death Wish, and The Warriors.
Netflix has dodged the "nostalgia" label for years; Chief Content Officer, Ted Sarandos, recently told the Washington Post:
"We're looking, always, for the great stories. We're not setting out to find nostalgic projects, but sometimes in the hunt for great stuff, somebody has a great take on something that is hugely familiar."Related - The Duffer Brothers On The Future Of Stranger Things
Fair enough, Ted, but the aforementioned evidence is pretty overwhelming. Case in point, the marketing trailers and teasers leading-up to this October's return of Stranger Things, which focuses squarely on that...

Gamer culture is a funny thing. Virtual soldiers of fortune sit comfortably on their plushy, safely-indoor couches, while screaming obscenities and egotistical insults into a headset microphone. It takes a movie like Level Up to put some of these arm-chair warriors in their respective places, useful with only a Cheeto-dusted controller in their hands. Yet, as far as “fantasy becomes reality” movies are concerned, Adam Randall’s kidnapping take is a bit more boiled-down than other more frantic, high-stakes efforts. Think Call Of Duty meets Grand Theft Auto, except Randall’s dangerous trajectory lacks any gameplay meat on its proverbial bones. Bad might turn to worse, but never in an adrenaline-pumping, action-ready kind of way. Not a glitchy mess, but more like a beta test?
