greatly improved
thecunn30 January 2015
I started watching simply because the show starred the drop dead beautiful Lucy Liu. The show was entertaining in the first two seasons, but not exceptional. Lucy Liu is not only a pretty face. She does an excellent job as Watson. The Holmes character that Jonny Lee Miller created has depth and is uniquely engaging. The writing seems to have improved by an order of magnitude in this the third season. The new character Kitty Winter has added a new level of interest to the series. Ophelia Lovibond is extraordinary in her role. I hope the series continues and that Ophelia remains a part. I say, "bravo well done for season 3."

Kitty's dark sub-plot takes center stage
adrian-fulneczek23 January 2015
We've all known that the darkest part of Kitty's past is going to be revisited at some point in this season, but I don't think we were ready for that much. One of the rare times on Elementary when you are actually scared for the characters' well-being. The air of uncertainty and horror is all around as the ones who usually hunt the criminals become the hunted. The ending was heart-breaking and will make every fan of the show anticipate the next episode so much more. Surprisingly, it was almost as good as the Moriarty episode (e23?) in season one with almost as strong of a twist at the end. We are in for a treat in the upcoming episode, I hope (the Moriarty follow-up did not go as well).

Loved Ophelia's performance

Warning: Spoilers
Even though in the beginning of this season I was a bit hesitant to welcome the addition of the character of Kitty, but as the story has developed so far and the part that Kitty has become in the dynamic of Sherlock and Joan that I'd grown so used to, I've now come to like this addition a lot. Apart from that, as for this episode, I'd like to give praise to the performance that Ophelia delivered near the end when she realises and recognises the person who'd abused her. She, I feel, really brought out the emotions that her character might've gone through in the situation that she was shown in, hearing the voice of her abuser after 5 years of trying to overcome the trauma she had faced, after trying to find that person with little hope because of the lack of any information about him other than his voice, which she was unsure she'd even remembered well enough.

Throughout the time we've seen her character, she has always shown the hardened shell she'd formed around her trying to overcome the abuse she had gone through with occasional glimpses of her true self when she lowered her defence around Sherlock and Joan because she was finally making a strong human connection with people who genuinely cared for her and nurtured her out of the dark place she'd been, but here during the end of this episode we see her finally break down emotionally when the past that she had painfully locked away suddenly came crashing back as she hears the voice of her abuser and recognises it, and Ophelia portrays it very well.
