The real-life 8 PM train from Leeds to Bradford was famed as the fastest train between cities. On one occasion, a record-breaking journey was made in just 13 minutes.
This film won a Diplome D'Honneur, or a Silver Medal, at the 1962 Cannes Film Festival, more specifically, the XV Festival International Du Film Amateur.
The film was made in 1962 and shows railway lines and stations which were closed a few years later, as part of the Beeching Cuts. Both Leeds Central and Bradford Exchange stations were closed and demolished, with services being rerouted into Leeds City in 1967 and into a brand new, much smaller station, Bradford Interchange, in 1973. Armley & Wortley, Stanningley and Laisterdyke stations were closed and demolished in 1967, and the present-day New Pudsey station (between Stanningley and Laisterdyke) was opened in the same year.
