The show's producers asked Genesis for permission to license "Invisible Touch" for the episode. After Genesis frontman Phil Collins read the script, he refused to allow the producers to use the song. Collins was not impressed with a scene where Homer says his band would be like Genesis, following the departure of Peter Gabriel, in which Bart replies that Genesis became more popular, but not as good after Collins replaced Gabriel as the lead vocalist.
