This is the first episode of Bates Motel (2013) that has received a TV-MA rating instead of the custom TV-14 rating that every episode before has received.
Emma (Olivia Cooke) asks Norman (Freddie Highmore) if he wishes he was Peter Pan. This is reference to one of Freddie Highmore's previous films where he starred as the inspiration for Peter Pan in Finding Neverland (2004).
When Chick tells Dylan and Caleb that they remind him of 2 characters from a book and asks if they have any rabbits, he is referencing John Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men." This is clearly meant to insult Caleb. The two main characters in the book are Lennie, a large man who is mentally below average, and George, a smart man working towards owning his own small piece of farming land. Chick makes it clear that he feels Dylan is the intelligent one, as opposed to Caleb, by pointedly directing all his comments/questions to Dylan.
