Warning: Spoilers
"1:58" is a Spanish 10-minute horror live action short film from 2014, so this one will be five years old next year and the star here is certainly writer and director Rodrigo Cortés. He made this shortly after directing Robert De Niro and Sigourney Weaver in "Red Lights", but we shall talk about that one on another occasion. As for this little movie we got here, it is basically a one (wo)man show. Manuela Vellés is in the center of it all as she plays a woman alone at night in a car (not the newest scenario that has never been done right?) and I assume the film's title is a reference to the hour. Anyway, even as a non-Spanish speaker you can check this one out because all the talking here is from the radio and I am not sure it is essential to understand the exact contents of what they are saying in order to enjoy the film. Then again, doing so is not really that easy. Even at 10 minutes, it feels dragging somehow and it's hard for me to find something I really liked here, perhaps the ending because it is bold and not in need of happiness I guess and us hearing the radio saying adios at the end had some dark humor to it I liked. But before that I was not impressed by the visual side as well as the story. Not a film that makes me curious about Cortés' many other works, also from the short film genre. And the title of my review is of course a reference to how it feels as if (differently looking) walkers are willing to take over (the inside) of the car. But it never feels really taht intriguing to see who they are or what they are exactly. Thumbs down. Not recommended.
