Let’s talk about sex, specifically the Erection Hardness Score developed by the European Association of Urology, which classifies the stages of the male erection over four levels: tofu, peeled banana, banana, and cucumber. It was from these designations that writer Russell T. Davies—best known for his tenure as showrunner on the new Doctor Who—got the titles of his very compelling (and very uneven) new pair of TV shows. The world of Doctor Who has changed greatly in the space of just 10 years. The cast and crew have almost completely been replaced since 2005, including a number of new actors to play the errant Time Lord and his companions.
But what has happened to the class of '05? Where are Rose and Mickey now? What is the writer of 'Dalek' up to? And where can you see more work from the director of 'Rose'?
Here it is then, your guide to the main players of Doctor Who series one.
The Cast
After his three-month on-screen stint as the Doctor, Christopher Eccleston's career continued in much the same vein, taking in theatre, interesting television roles and the odd blockbuster.
Post-2005, the Northern actor went Stateside to take on the role of invisible man Claude in the Us series Heroes. From there, he popped up in a very amusing Doctor Who-esque cameo as Dr.

This is rich, vibrant work representing the diversity of Lgbt experience across the globe. But we were also aware there is still a lot of work to be done to support British filmmakers who are Lgbt identified and who may want to tell these stories. We were genuinely impressed by the number of quality applications we received, and blown away by the talent and spirit of our five selected filmmakers. The future of British Lgbt cinema looks very bright indeed. ”

Russell T Davies's big TV comeback Cucumber and its companion series Banana are out on DVD from today - as individual editions or as one special box-set.
Cel Spellman played Adam in Cucumber - nephew to Henry (Vincent Franklin) who, unlike his uncle, was fazed by very little about modern sexuality.
Digital Spy spoke to Cel about getting his top off, lip-syncing to Katy Perry, getting intense for Screwdriver and whether we'll ever see Adam again.

So how did you first get involved with Cucumber?

Get an extra slice of Cucumber and Banana with three new behind-the-scenes clips.
First, Russell T Davies talks the origins of his Channel 4 series and its E4 companion in a snippet taken from the new DVD set.
In a second clip exploring the first episode, Davies explains how Cucumber offered a new opportunity - the chance to write a gay marriage proposal.
In the third and final clip, we go on-set for episode 7 of Cucumber and Lance's funeral - with interviews from Vincent Franklin (Henry), Freddie Fox (Freddie) and more.
Davies has insisted that Cucumber was designed as a one-off series, though told Digital Spy that he would be tempted to revive Banana for a second run.
"I've loved discovering new writers and new directors with it, so that could continue," he said. "Part of us is dying to continue."

Russell T Davies’ Cucumber is a raucously funny relationship drama that highlights how narrow the rest of TV’s representation is…
This review contains spoilers.
You know how it goes: you wait years for a brilliant adult Russell T Davies drama, and then three come along at once.
Getting proceedings underway is Channel 4’s Cucumber - a raucously funny and wistful portrait of gay middle-age sex, relationships and frustration. Following that is E4’s energetic half-hour Banana, which swings the focus over to gay Generation Z. Finally comes talking heads-meets-speculative fiction web series, Tofu.
The British love of innuendo being alive and well (as illustrated by C4’s cheeky, colourful promo campaign for the shows), everyone’s calling it a threesome. A flexible threesome at that, one designed to be watched separately or together as the viewer chooses - according to Davies, the first episodes of Cucumber and Banana...

Last week, Russell T Davies’ new Channel 4 trio of dramas, Cucumber, Banana and Tofu was launched at London’s posh Barbican centre (followed by an after-party held aptly at – where else – The Gherkin).
The post-screening Q&A, hosted by Boyd Hilton, took in all manner of topics, from Cucumber’s non-sexy look at all things sex, to age, race and sexuality diversity on screen, and the legal challenges of deliberately seeking out gay writers to bring new voices to television.
As the venue couldn’t hold you all, we picked out a few choice bits of what creator and head writer Mr Davies, Producer Nicola Schindler and actor Vincent Franklin had to say about the terrific new set of shows…

'Cucumber' will not return for a second series, writer Russell T. Davies has revealed. The highly-anticipated gay TV drama begins on Channel 4 this week and stars Vincent Franklin as middle-aged homosexual man Henry who is confused about the direction his life is going in. Russell insists the eight-episode programme has a conclusion which would make it impossible to bring Henry back, but the two spin-off shows, 'Banana' and 'Tofu', could keep going after their initial run. When asked if 'Cucumber' will come back to screens, he said: ''No - 'Cucumber' comes to an end. It has a beginning, middle and an end...

Russell T Davies would love to write a Doctor Who movie - and that it "should be in cinemas immediately!"
Starting this Thursday is Russell T Davies' latest venture, the interlinked projects Cucumber, Banana and Tofu. We've now seen the first episode of each, and it's very much worth making arrangements to make sure you don't miss them.
Davies has been promoting the shows over the past couple of weeks, and on Saturday, he appeared on Graham Norton's Radio 2 programme as part of that. And whilst on the show, he was asked about a Doctor Who film.
"I think it should be in cinemas immediately", Davies replied. "It would be glorious. Imagine queueing up at the cinema to go and see a Doctor Who film".
So would he be interested in writing it? "Yes please! If we could get the lawyers and contracts flying now. You know, I...

A Russell T Davies TV project is always something to be excited about. From gifting us Queer as Folk to saving Doctor Who, he has given us a lot to be grateful for over the years. Hence why his various comeback series on Channel 4, E4 and online later this month are being greeted with such a sense of anticipation.
Cucumber, Banana and Tofu come 16 years after Davies shook up TV with Queer as Folk and his new shows look likely to be just as exciting, exploring the passions and pitfalls of 21st century gay life with a candid sense of humour.
But will it create as many stars as Davies's previous Channel 4 series? Here's what happened to the Queer As Folk stars after it ended in 2000.

Russell T Davies has revealed plans for his next TV drama project.
The Cucumber writer will soon begin work on The Boys, a story about a group of gay men during the 1980s AIDS crisis.
Scheduled for 2016, the former Doctor Who showrunner said that it will be one of his most autobiographical projects to date, and will include a character who is slightly based on himself.
The Boys has yet to be written or cast, but will also feature a character based on a female friend of Davies who was involved in the AIDS awareness campaign.
"It's partly looking back on your life, it's partly because of my boyfriend [who has been seriously ill with a brain tumour]. I have been staring mortality in the face," Davies told Radio Times at a Broadcasting Press Guild lunch.
"I want to go into the bedsits – it's called The Boys because it's about the boys. And they will tell the stories of it,...

Russell T Davies has admitted that working on Doctor Who has discouraged him from ever committing to another multi-series television project.
Davies told Radio Times that he never expected the revived BBC sci-fi drama to last more than one series when it launched in 2005.
"I thought Doctor Who would last a year and I was going to write the gay men drama after that," he explained.
"But it just became this huge roller coaster that made me determined never to do a second series again."
Davies served as Doctor Who's head writer and executive producer between 2005 and 2010, before handing over the position to Steven Moffat.
His next project, Channel 4's Cucumber, explores the lives of middle-aged gay men and will be accompanied by a youth-oriented E4 series, Banana, and a factual online spinoff, Tofu.
All three series will launch on January 22.

New trailers have been released for Russell T Davies' new sister shows Cucumber and Banana.
Along with Tofu, the three shows follow the interconnecting lives of older and younger gay characters.
Described as "exploring the passions and pitfalls of 21st century gay life, beginning with the most disastrous date night in history", Cucumber follows 46-year-old Henry and his boyfriend, and will air on Channel 4 from Thursday, January 22.
It is Davies' first work with Channel 4 since Queer as Folk ended in 2000.
Banana, which follows the lives of Cucumber's younger characters in more detail, will be shown on E4 right after Cucumber airs.
Tofu, a factual series billed as "an anarchic online guide to sex inspired by the dramas each week", will be available on 4Od.

Russell T Davies has been offered paths back into writing Doctor Who, but he's not going to follow them…
The Doctor Who of today owes Russell T Davies an inestimable debt, and with the tenth anniversary of its return to BBC One approaching, the question of his involvement in any forthcoming celebrations has naturally come up.
While doing interviews for his new Channel 4 project Cucumber, Banana, Tofu, Davies was asked about returning for the ten year anniversary of Who’s relaunch.
"Someone from the [BBC's] branding team sent me a very lovely email saying do you want to do something," Mr Davies revealed. "I don't know what they imagined: a talk or a convention perhaps,” he added.
“I just said no, to be honest. A programme can't have its 50th and then its 10th. I think that's just confusing. It's marvellous and glorious; let it carry on."

Julie Hesmondhalgh has predicted that her new series Cucumber "won't be to everyone's taste".
The former Coronation Street actress said that the Russell T Davies-penned drama will likely "cause a lot of controversy" when it airs on Channel 4 next year.
She told This Morning: "Comparisons are going to be made to Queer as Folk, but Russell [writer Russell T Davies] is really keen for it to be a departure from that really, and I think of it as more of Tales of the City for Manchester.
"It's about sex and love and relationships and mid-life crises... and salad vegetables!
"It's full on, and [some] people won't like it… and if you don't like it, please just turn off!" she added. "It won't be to everyone's taste - it's a Channel 4 series about sex.
"But it's exciting and wonderful and Russell is just the best writer in the world. But it is an...
