Bitterly disappointed in love, studly Redford has retreated into a lonely trapper life in the barren wild of northern Canada. Against his self-oath, he grumpily takes pity on Kate Carter, a small town teacher travelling to the big city in order to wed but has her only flight canceled due to a blizzard. Having the bothersome ingrate on his snowmobile is bad enough, but it breaks down. Realizing she can't survive alone, he accompanies her on foot, an involuntary adventure that proves a s dangerous as exciting, complete with stripping down after falling trough ice, bringing them closer together while she starts doubting her married city life and he his solitude.
