- [last lines]
- Ethan Chandler: [Ethan Chandler reads his letter to Vanessa Ives while on a ship back to America, narrating] Dear Vanessa... your many kindnesses I will always carry with me. Such generosity... has not been a part of my life, and I thank you for your affection and understanding. In my most frightened and lonely moments, you were there. And such light you brought to me. But I am made for the dark. As we both know. I am fit for only one place and should have been there long ago. Deep in the cold clay on a forgotten hill. Your road may be difficult. But mine is doomed. So we walk alone. Written with love... Ethan.
- Vanessa Ives: [after Vanessa turns off all the lights to the house] So we walk alone.
- [Vanessa Ives stops herself from kissing the talking Vanessa Doll]
- Vanessa Ives: You offer me a normal life... Why do you think I want that anymore? I know what I am. Do you?
- [Vanessa Ives tells Ethan Chandler that they can both walk away together]
- Ethan Chandler: There's no walking away from what I am.
- Vanessa Ives: What we both are. I have run from the darkness for so long... only to find myself in a place darker still.
- [Vanessa Ives holds onto Ethan Chandler and tells him to be with her]
- Vanessa Ives: Walk with me. You recall the night I came to your room? I was so frightened. You were kind, and in the morning I was not so frightened. Stay with me tonight.
- Ethan Chandler: And tomorrow?
- Vanessa Ives: [with tears in her eyes Vanessa smiles] I promise you, we will be less afraid.
- [Ferdinand Lyle kills one of the witches with the small pistol Ethan Chandler gave him]
- Ferdinand Lyle: [firing a shot into the witch's stomach] Never underestimate the power of a queen with lovely hair, my dear.
- [firing the final kill shot]
- [Ethan Chandler sees Vanessa Ives after she knows what he is]
- Ethan Chandler: You know what I am.
- Vanessa Ives: Yes. And here I stand.
- [Vanessa Ives tells Mr. Clare that he's the most human man she's ever known]
- Vanessa Ives: [Vanessa combs her hand over Mr. Clare's face and cries] I think you are the most human man... I have ever known.
- [Vanessa kisses Mr. Clare before leaving him to his cries]
- [the talking Vanessa Doll tells Vanessa Ives that her soul belongs to Him]
- Vanessa Doll: The moment you opened your mouth and spoke the Verbis Diablo.
- Madame Kali: The moment you stretched your midnight powers to take the life of another.
- Vanessa Doll: At that moment, you took me in your arms and kissed me deep. Kiss me now and end the pain.
- Vanessa Ives: My soul is mine... that part of God is mine!
- [Victor Frankenstein faces his imaginary undead creatures]
- Proteus: Like a lamb I was, Victor. How could you let me be hurt?
- Dr. Victor Frankenstein: [Victor points to Mr. Clare] Him. It was him.
- John Clare: What am I but an extension of you. All your sins emptied into me. I'm your other half... your truest self.
- Lily: Don't blame the children for the father's cruelty.
- Proteus: We were born innocent. You made us into monsters.
- [Vanessa Ives sees her normal life with husband Ethan Chandler, kids Clare and Charles Chandler]
- Clare Chandler: [the daughter Clare holds up a drawing] Daddy, does this look like a hippopotamus?
- Ethan Chandler: Not at all. Maybe it looks like a horse that's eaten a little too much.
- Clare Chandler: I like fat horses.
- Charles Chandler: Fat horses are too slow.
- Ethan Chandler: Not if you're on a long trail. You want a little extra muscle then.
- [Hecate Poole sings while leaving Madame Kali's castle]
- Hecate Poole: My breast is cold as clay / My breath is earthly strong / And if you kiss my cold gray lips / Your days, they won't be long / How often yonder grave, Sweetheart / Where we were won't to walk / The fairest flower that e'er I saw / Has withered to a stalk / When will we meet again, Sweetheart? / When will we meet again? / When the Autumn leaves that fall from trees / Are green and spring up again
- [Mr. Clare tells Vanessa Ives he no longer has a dream]
- John Clare: This dream I had... this... this long dream of kinship with those unlike me... it is gone.
- Vanessa Ives: Yes.
- John Clare: When you've seen that of which you are capable... when you have stood in blood long enough... what is there left but to wade to a desolate shore, away from all others?
- [Vanessa Ives tells Mr. Clare she no longer has a dream]
- Vanessa Ives: There is no place far enough. I've lost the immortal part of myself, you see. No. I've thrown it away.
- John Clare: [Mr. Clare holds Vanessa's hand] No matter how far you have walked from God... he is still waiting ahead.
- Vanessa Ives: You don't believe in God.
- John Clare: But you do.
- Vanessa Ives: That dream is gone.
- [Mr. Clare asks Vanessa Ives to come with him to their desolate shore]
- John Clare: Come with me? To our desolate shore.
- Vanessa Ives: Mr. Clare... There is around me... a shroud that brings only pain. I won't allow you to suffer. Not you.
- [Vanessa Ives crushes in the face of the talking Vanessa Doll]
- Vanessa Ives: Beloved. Know your master.
- [Lily and Dorian Gray reveal their immortality to Victor Frankenstein]
- Dorian Gray: [after Victor shoots Dorian in the chest] I've experienced so many sensations over the years... but never one precisely like this. Complete supremacy.
- Lily: Cruelty.
- Dorian Gray: Ascendancy.
- Lily: Conquest.
- [first lines]
- Vanessa Doll: [the talking Vanessa Doll tells Vanessa Ives she's a murderer] Murderer. How many scattered corpses will you leave in your bloody wake before your life has run its course? A hundred? A thousand? A race? Or will it be all of mankind you devour?
- Vanessa Ives: And you speak for the Fallen Angel?
- Vanessa Doll: 'The Fallen Angel.' Much the most gentle appellation you could give me, Beloved.
- Vanessa Ives: Beloved, is it?
- Vanessa Doll: Don't deny what you know to be true, Amunet.
- [Madame Kali tells Vanessa Ives she no longer has God on her side]
- Madame Kali: God has turned his back on you. Church, God, Ministers of Grace. You've left them behind, you know you have.
- Vanessa Ives: No!
- Madame Kali: All of that is behind you, but what lies ahead? Think of it. All of time. All of history. Everlasting power to rule the darkness with he who loves you, and will never reject you.
- Vanessa Ives: You have no power to tempt me. I have faced eyes more cruel than yours, woman.
- [Sir Malcolm faces his imaginary dead family]
- Gladys Murray: I don't know how you could live with it, Malcolm.
- Mina Harker: All those tombstones in a row.
- Peter: Wife, daughter, son.
- Sir Malcolm Murray: Not me. Not my doing.
- Gladys Murray: You know it was.
- Peter: Who walked away as I starved?
- Mina Harker: Who pulled the trigger that killed me, Father?
- Peter: Did you name a mountain after me?
- Gladys Murray: [about Madame Kali] Did you enjoy her body as I bled?
- [the imaginary undead creatures tell Victor Frankenstein they didn't have a choice]
- John Clare: Did we ask for this life?
- Lily: Or was it your pride?
- Dr. Victor Frankenstein: To conquer death is... an ennobled calling. I am a scientist. A scientist.
- [the imaginary undead creatures blame Victor Frankenstein for his abuse]
- Lily: And when you touched my naked body? Your fingertips running along my flesh. This was abuse... not science.
- Proteus: I was your friend. I never had another.
- John Clare: You walked away at the moment of my birth.
- [the imaginary dead family tell Sir Malcolm to go to the graveyard]
- Sir Malcolm Murray: The past is dead.
- Gladys Murray: Come to the graveyard on the hill and tell me the past is dead.
- Peter: Touch the tombstones. We're still warm.
- [the imaginary undead creatures remind Victor Frankenstein that they're his sins]
- Lily: And so we walk with your sin... dead... and yet not fully alive.
- John Clare: Haunting the twilight, living between.
- Proteus: This is what you have made, Victor.
- Dr. Victor Frankenstein: If I could go back... it would be different.
- [the imaginary dead figures tell Victor Frankenstein and Sir Malcolm to join them]
- John Clare: [the undead creatures sit around Victor] You have the engines of the future all around you.
- Lily: The needle. The scalpel. The noose.
- Mina Harker: [the dead family stand around Sir Malcolm] The gun to the temple.
- Gladys Murray: Take your razor and slit your throat.
- Peter: Join your family.
- Mina Harker: The final tombstone on the hill.
- Lily: The sip of poison from the amber bottle.
- Gladys Murray: The single bullet under the chin.
- John Clare: There is no other peace for thee, Frankenstein.
- Proteus: Walk into the river... let it bring you quiet. Enjoy our company.
- Gladys Murray: One of us again.
- Peter: Father.
- Proteus: Husband.
- Proteus: Father.
- Lily: Lover.
- John Clare: Brother.
- [the talking Vanessa Doll offers Vanessa Ives a chance to be normal]
- Vanessa Ives: There is an old dream in you. A deep longing. You know it.
- Vanessa Ives: No.
- Vanessa Doll: Let me show you what I can give you.
- Vanessa Ives: No.
- Vanessa Doll: To be free of pain. To be loved, simply for who you are. Is that not the engine in all human creatures? To be normal.
- [Victor Frankenstein and Sir Malcolm are embraced by the imaginary dead figures to take their own lives]
- Lily: [Victor listens to his undead creatures] One last, great experiment, Victor.
- John Clare: The greatest of all.
- Mina Harker: [Sir Malcolm listens to his dead children] One last expedition into the unknown, father.
- Peter: Terra incognito.
- Mina Harker: Magical words.
- John Clare: Piercing the tissue that separates life from death.
- Lily: Your mission. Your calling.
- [the talking Vanessa Doll promises Vanessa Ives peace]
- Vanessa Doll: I will give you an eternity of peace with the man you love. And at the moment of your death, your family will gather around you and hold your hand.
- Vanessa Ives: And then?
- Vanessa Doll: No more suffering. No more anguished nights of terror. Only the peace of being who you were meant to be. At my side, cherished bride. Your body will die, but your spirit will be everlasting. Say yes.
- Vanessa Ives: And my friends?
- Vanessa Doll: Released. Left to live freely.
- Vanessa Ives: And my God?
- Vanessa Doll: A better God at your side.
- Vanessa Ives: And me?
- Vanessa Doll: You will be who you are. End the torment, Vanessa. Kiss me.
- [Oscar and Octavia Putney slide Mr. Clare some food into his cage]
- Oscar Putney: Mrs. Putney has prepared you some food. Though she's a bit parsimonious when it comes to the victuals.
- Octavia Putney: Husband!
- Oscar Putney: You know it's true. Heavy on the spices, light on the joint, as they say.
- [Octavia Putney tells Mr. Clare that she's surprised he hasn't started screaming from in his cage]
- Octavia Putney: You haven't tried screaming yet.
- John Clare: I was not made to scream.
- Oscar Putney: Some scream, some cause others to scream, eh?
- [Oscar Putney gives a proposition to the caged Mr. Clare]
- Oscar Putney: I have a proposition I'd like you to consider. We have a future ahead of us now, do the Putney's. As ballyhoo's go, my crime scenes were an ace success. And my freak show will beggar that. Queues stretching from here to Hackney, we'll have... once we get a few more of you in. Why, right now I've a line on a limbless boy who sits in an apple crate, and some malformed doxie we can claim as 'Sister to the late and lamented Mr. Merrick, The Elephant Man.'
- John Clare: And?
- Oscar Putney: And you've a choice. You can share in on the success... or you can suffer. Join us, Mr. Clare.
- [Oscar Putney tells the caged Mr. Clare he'll pay him for helping his freak show]
- Octavia Putney: That got his attention.
- Oscar Putney: Money has a way of doing that. Look here, I don't think Harry Public enjoys seeing miserable freaks. I think he likes to see jolly freaks, doing the odd trick.
- Octavia Putney: Odd trick, mmm.
- Oscar Putney: You play along, we'll give you a share of the take. Think how nice a few schillings will sound in your pocket.
- [Oscar and Octavia Putney tell Mr. Clare he can be the king of the freaks]
- Oscar Putney: You do your job. You let the punters take a good gander and you give 'em a proper fright
- Octavia Putney: Trick or two.
- Oscar Putney: [Oscar smiles] You welcome the new arrivals, tell 'em what's what. Ease their transition into servitude. A father to all of the other freaks, if you will.
- Octavia Putney: King of the Freaks.
- [as Mr. Clare rips off the cell door to his cage, breaking Octavia's throat and bashing Oscar's head into the brick wall repeatedly]
- [Ferdinand Lyle rides home with Victor Frankenstein and calls him his friend]
- Ferdinand Lyle: It's good to have a friend on such a night.
- Dr. Victor Frankenstein: I'll be fine.
- Ferdinand Lyle: I needed the friend, Doctor. I have not seen such things or done such things. And with such relish. God help me.
- [Victor Frankenstein pulls out his pistol on Lily and Dorian Gray]
- Dorian Gray: [Dorian and Lily chuckle together] Oh!
- Lily: Well, there's gallantry?
- Dorian Gray: Who did you have in mind to shoot?
- Dr. Victor Frankenstein: Stop it!
- [Victor Frankenstein shoots Lily after she insults him]
- Lily: Oh... you're too sweet. That night I took your awkward virginity, all thumbs he was. How trembling and terrified.
- Dr. Victor Frankenstein: Stop it.
- Lily: Like a grubby little boy cramming his hand into the sweet jar.
- Lily: [Victor shoots Lily in the chest] Please, Creator... you made me too well for that. Oh, yes, I know. Always have. You were so... sublimely malleable.
- [as Dorian tastes the blood from Lily's body]
- [Lily threatens Victor Frankenstein by letting him live]
- Lily: Shall we murder him right now?
- Dorian Gray: Entirely up to you, darling.
- Lily: No. He might still prove useful to us. Let him live. Let him live with what he has created... a master race. A race of immortals, meant to command. Soon, he will kneel to us.
- Dorian Gray: They all will.
- Lily: When our day has come... you will know terror.
- Lily: [Lily holds her hands around Victor's face] Until then, little man... live with the knowledge of what you have spawned. And suffer.
