The dialog in the film is entirely unscripted, as well as most of the situations Phil and Colin encounter. The deer shown in the film was actually hit by the RV the first night on the road, destroying the grill, radiator, AC compressor, and the transmission oil cooler.
The LA studio scene features a number of actors and musicians of note, including John Altman (Saxophonist, Monty Python Collaborator) Margie Balter (Piano teacher to the stars), and Steve Martini (Major Payne). Additionally, Jeff Dowd, who plays media mogul Tapestry Nelson, is the real life inspiration for the character of Jeff "The Dude" Lebowski in the Coen Brother's film, The Big Lebowski.
Phil and Colin's apartment was Dilley's and Woodend's home while they were in school and in production on the film. Very few changes were made to the decor before shooting.
It took filmmakers Dilley/Woodend and editor Matt Hartman four months to edit 130 hours of footage down to standard feature length.
Very few of the people interviewed on screen had actually seen or heard of Rocksteppy before being interviewed.
