MollywoodJeethu added that an Ott release for 'Drishyam 2' ended up being the perfect decision. Sreedevi JayarajanJeethu Joseph is currently riding high on the success of Drishyam 2, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video on February 18. Tnm caught up with the director to discuss the film, which has received stellar reviews. Q: What made you decide on a sequel? A: I was never planning on making a sequel. In 2013 after Drishyam released, I was convinced that the story had ended, and that there could be no part 2. But everyone including Mohanlal asked me to consider a sequel. I was also getting calls from random studios saying that people were bringing scripts to them for Drishyam 2, which I had no idea about. This is when producer Antony Perumbavoor (who bankrolled both films) asked me to try and work on a sequel. He told me, “You’re not even trying.

“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” completely fizzled in its second weekend in China, setting it on track to become the least successful installment of the franchise by far in the world’s second largest film market.
By Monday, “Skywalker” ranked seventh at the box office behind a pack of local Chinese action films and dramas. After opening with the weakest debut of any recent “Star Wars” films in the country, it made just $2 million in its second weekend and accounted for less than 3% of China’s total screenings.

Social media Kamal Haasan's social media post turned into a battleground for fans who argued about who's a better actor - Kamal or Mohanlal?Tnm StaffWhen actor-politician Kamal Haasan posted a picture of him meeting Hollywood director Christopher Nolan, the last thing he’d have expected is for the comments section to become a battleground for his and Malayalam actor Mohanlal’s fans. On Friday, Kamal posted a photo on his social media pages with Nolan. He said, “Apologized for seeing Dunkirk in the digital format and in return am sending Hey Ram in digital format for him to see. Was surprised to know he had seen Paapanaasam.” Released in 2015 and starring Kamal, Paapanaasam is a Tamil thriller, and a remake of the 2013 Malayalam film Drishyam. This didn't go unnoticed by fans who flooded the comments section with suggestions for Nolan to watch Drishyam first, which starred their “complete actor” Mohanlal. Soon enough, Kamal fans came on to the page to defend their star. One of them pointed out politely that while he agreed, “to say that the top actors from India, Kamal stands at first place followed by Mamootty and Mohanlal. Kamal is the acting dictionary. Mohanlal is the complete actor too.” Others compared the box office collection of the two films to make their point. Check out some of the other comments. One person went on another tangent altogether, asking people to watch Suspect X, a film he claimed that Drishyam was copied from. This particular plagiarism allegation has been leveled at director Jeethu Joseph previously and the filmmaker has emphatically denied it. Apart from Mohanlal’s fans defending Drishyam’s originality, and hence superiority over Paapanasam, Mammootty was also pulled into the debate. Meanwhile, others called for the comparisons and debates about who’s the better actor to stop, and appreciate two cinematic legends being in one frame.

Filmmakers are no longer willing to abide by the multiplex schedules of no more than 2 hours of playing-time for each screen. It's known as the samosa-and-popcorn time scheme, as a longish interval is inserted into the 2-hour feature for the cafeteria at the multiplexes to flourish. The two July blockbusters Baahubali and Bajrangi Bhaijaan, each with a playing-time of nearly 3 hours, have changed the rules. Now, a third July film Drishyam will surpass the 2-hour time-limit. Producers Viacom 18 and director Nishikant Kamat are determined to keep intact the 2 hour 39 minute length of the eagerly-awaited thriller Drishyam, although by multiplex yardsticks, it is considered unfashionable for a film's running-time to go beyond two hours. "But, I am fighting to retain every minute of my edited footage, because I feel every film has its own rhythm. We cannot hurry it. Drishyam is not a routine thriller. It's a gripping story. There’s an abrupt tonal shift from dom-com to tough-thriller a third of a way through this intriguing meta-murder drama, ripe for English language remake
In last week’s Sardarji review, I mentioned how Indian directors and stars frequently move between the country’s regional industries. The new release Papanasam arrives as a fine demonstration of how ideas can likewise cross those same borders.
Jeethu Joseph’s thriller Drishyam was one of Malayalam cinema’s biggest hits in 2013; Joseph has now remade it in Tamil, porting over a compelling (and very contemporary) idea about images, and what we do with them. Perhaps it’s the proximity of these cinemas, but little appears to have been lost in transit: the central conceit travels more comfortably than those sustaining many recent remakes.

Perhaps it’s the proximity of these cinemas, but little appears to have been lost in transit: the central conceit travels more comfortably than those sustaining many recent remakes.

Apart from Ajay Devgn playing the role of Mohanlal in the film, we now hear that Shriya Saran will be seen as Ajay's wife in this thriller drama. In the Malayalam version, the role of Shriya was portrayed by popular South actress Meena. Shriya and Ajay will play parents to a teenage daughter, but the details of the actress playing the role of their daughter is yet to be finalized. The film revolves around a man who devises a wise plan in order to protect his wife and children from a crime that they commit in self-defense. The remake of Drishyam also stars Tabu who plays the role of a cop along with the critically acclaimed actor Rajat Kapoor who plays the role of her husband.

Many trade analysts expressed their disappointment over the fact that one of the top 100 crore club actors of Bollywood, Ajay Devgn will not be seen on the silverscreen in 2015, but now, we hear that there has been a twist in the tale. Though the unit of Shivaay had already taken off to Canada for a brief recee and to complete the initial stages of production, it was the weather which played a spoil sport. Apparently, we hear that Ajay Devgn had picturised a certain kind of snowfall in mind for the film but he was upset when things didn't turn out the way he planned and hence...
