- After performing her manifesto song at her Opry induction, major pop labels are vying to sign Juliette, overwhelming Avery, who can barely afford to take her to dinner. Rayna has major money troubles of her own, since Tandy's been bouncing checks around town for Highway 65, affecting Rayna's ability to sign new artists. Deacon finds that life on the road is filled with temptation when he runs into an old friend, Ruth Bennett (Charlotte Ross) at an AA meeting, and Scarlett becomes more enmeshed with Liam.—Anonymous

Hearts, banks, and bonds are breaking in tonight's episode.
Deacon has got a few gigs in "Nowheresville, VA" and Megan is sad he's leaving. She's worried about groupies and booze but he says that's all behind him now that he has her.
He heads off to his gig and it goes well except the emcee grabs his hand coming off stage and aggravates his injury. He sits at the bar and is offered a free shot on the house but demurs and asks for a bucket of ice instead. He goes to the crummy motel where he's staying with the band and they're all partying so he bows out and calls Megan, who is too distracted to talk to him because she's working late.
She does, however, allow herself to be distracted by a distress call from Teddy. He was going through Peggy's things and found a prescription for a drug women take after miscarriages. He tells Megan he realizes that she had the miscarriage before the marriage and then pretended she was still pregnant to keep him, old-school-style. He says he loved her and would've married even if he knew. Megan says he clearly loved her. He says he loved the woman he thought he knew. He's drinking, a lot. She pulls him from his desk and drives to some kind of hill overlooking the city. She says she came here a lot after her husband died and for a long time was angry and sad. He notes she seems Zen now and she says he just has to find a place where he has peace. They touch hands. And then, later, full do it in the backseat of her car. They clearly both feel terrible after wards and she drops him off without speaking.
Meanwhile, Deacon runs into an old friend, Ruth, at an AA meeting in Nowheresville. She used to be a Rayna back up singer. She tried the solo route and her drinking derailed that so now she lives here and runs a bakery. They have coffee and chat, she's very flirty. She begs off going to his gig since it's in a bar but asks him to stay the night with her after it's over. He says he has a girl and it's serious. She tells him if it doesn't work out he knows where she is.
Deacon heads home and gives Megan a trucker hat he got her and she apologizes for being distracted when he called. He says she looks like she could use some fun and picks her up and heads for the bedroom.
Meanwhile, Juliette is being bombarded with offers from all of the major pop labels but she doesn't want to crossover she wants to stay country and have her creative freedom. But, according to Glenn, she's burned too many bridges in Nashville. Except for one, Jeff Fordham comes calling from Edgehill Records and offer to publicly apologize and take her back. And he sweetens the pot by offering Avery a quarter-million dollar producing deal. Avery's been feeling the emasculating sting of a rich girlfriend and tells Juliette he doesn't want to ride her coattails and says he can't believe she'd go back to Fordham after the way he treated her. Initially, she signs the deal but realizes that Avery's respect is more important than a deal. She tells him she tore up the contract because he's her best offer.
Meanwhile, Gunnar is so fired up about the new band with Avery and Zoe that he's booked them a gig in two days. He has all kinds of plans and Avery is annoyed. He blows off a rehearsal and shows up at the gig angry. Gunnar is looking for gratitude since his songwriting success is what got them the gig and that not everyone can have a rich girlfriend pay for everything. This sets Avery off and he grabs Gunnar. Zoe breaks it up and says they need to at least get through one gig. They do, it goes well, and Avery seems happy.
In Will and Layla world, he is red hot thanks to his hit song and her light is fading and she can't get Jeff to return her calls. She says ever since Brent left, she can't get any info from the label and wants to call him but Will stops her. In the bedroom, things are less red hot and Layla is worried it's her. Will goes on a radio show and spends a lot of time chatting up Layla's new single. Jeff calls him when he and Layla are together and tells Will to stop talking about her, the label is done promoting her and her 15 minutes is up. An anguished Layla asks, so Jeff can hear her, if they're going to drop her. He says he doesn't know but they're focusing all their attention on Will. Will tries to console her but, again, it doesn't work out. She is again worried that it's her and admits she was a virgin when she met him. She asks what he wants, and he says he wants a beer and the remote. He hugs her but he looks stricken.
Rayna's world meanwhile is falling apart. Tandy has dropped the ball on accounting and her checks are bouncing all over town. She tries to fix it but Rayna says she's had enough and wants freedom from all the crap in her family and fires Tandy. A band she had hoped to sign goes with another label after hearing of her financial woes. Luke offers her financial assistance but she says she doesn't want to complicate their relationship like that. And then, she and Luke walk in on Liam and Scarlett making out and she is livid. He explains that this happens and that she knows this. Rayna says she does know but she explicitly asked him to be careful with her and that Scarlett is young and it will break her heart. So she says he should break her heart right away, before it goes any further and she fires him, even though she's already paid him. Scarlett catches up with Liam as he's leaving asking why he didn't return her calls. He says he's headed to Tokyo to work with a new band and he's not sure when he'll be back. Again he says, they had fun and this happens, the closeness of he studio, all the emotions and such, but was never going to be serious and that's life. And she says it's not her life. He tells her to live the life she wants. She goes to Rayna saying she feels dumb, she was finally having an adult relationship and he just bailed. Rayna says that whatever Liam unlocked in her is still in there and she will still make a great record. Finally, Juliette goes to Rayna and asks her to help mend her fences in Nashville by signing her to Highway 65. Rayna thinks this is a good idea.
