Paul Feig would love to do Spy 2, and would have Jason Statham involved. But it's not happening just yet...
Ah, The Statham. We're rather fond of the man, as regular readers may have realised by now. And his turn in Paul Feig's Spy as Rick Ford is firmly established already as one of our favourite all-time Statham roles. If you've not had the pleasure, then be assured that Spy is Statham comedy gold, a film he pretty much walks away with, every time he's allowed near the screen.
There had been talk about a sequel to Spy last year, and writer/director Paul Feig, in a new interview with Empire, has admitted that "that’s another world that I don’t want to walk away from. It’s the first thing I did that I set up to be a possible franchise and Melissa [McCarthy] is dying to do it.

Viva La Madness: We heard back in June that Jason Statham (above in Safe) would star in Viva La Madness, based on a book by J.J. Now it's been decided to adapt the book as a TV show rather than a movie, with plans to make at least 10 one-hour episodes. While no one has been particularly asking for it, Jason Statham has stuck by "Viva La Madness" through years in development. Based on author J.J. Connolly's book sequel to his own "Layer Cake," which was turned into the 2004 film that marked a breakthrough for director Matthew Vaughn and star Daniel Craig, the project has been kicking around for a while now, with Statham promising the movie would get made. Well, that's not happening, but the project is taking a different shape. Variety reports that Statham will star and executive produce a TV series based on the material, with Gaumont ("Hannibal," "Narcos") producing. The story will find the criminal protagonist idling in the Caribbean before returning to London to get back to the life he knows so well, teaming with a couple of gangsters to get back to work. “The way J.J. writes is so on the ball and authentic,...

Following in the well-heeled footsteps of Anne Hathaway, Jason Statham is coming to TV with a project first, network second. The actor will executive-produce and star in an adaptation of Viva La Madness, a British gangster novel by J.J. Connolly is set to write the series, which is being produced by Gaumont International. The book follows our anonymous protagonist, who's stuck in the Caribbean because he's a wanted man back in the U.K. Eventually he gets back to his criminal ways with two other London gangsters. Gaumont CEO Katie O'Connell praised Statham's ability to bring "strength and credibility to his characters” as well as "an effortless shade of vulnerability." We totally agree.

Jason Statham's Layer Cake sequel Viva La Madness is finally happening – with a bit of a twist.
While the long-rumoured follow-up to Jj Connolly's Layer Cake is actually moving forward, the author will now be adapting the crime novel into a television series rather than a movie.
Gaumont International TV revealed today (September 17) that it is partnering with Connolly to turn Viva La Madness into an episodic drama.
"Viva La Madness, with its riveting characters and twisting storyline, is a volatile cocktail of action and comedy that only Jj Connolly can create," Gaumont's Katie O'Connell Marsh announced.
"Jason Statham, known for his roles in the Transporter trilogy, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, The Bank Job, as well as the recent Furious 7 and Spy, brings such strength and credibility to his characters but also has an effortless shade of vulnerability that gives him so much dimension on screen.

In possibly the most Den Of Geek-relevant rumour of all time, The Stath is being linked to a role as Bullseye in Marvel's Daredevil...
We don't always share rumours on this site, but this one's too good to be true: Jason Statham is purportedly under consideration for the role of Bullseye in Marvel's much-loved Daredevil series on Netflix. Just take a minute to breathe that in... Could this be the Den Of Geek-iest rumour of all time? Is someone pulling our leg?
The rumour comes from Latino Review, who have something of a chequered history with hitting the target (arf) rumour-wise. They've undeniably got it right on a fair few occasions, though.
For the uninitiated: Bullseye is a sharp-shooting hit man with a long history in Marvel Comics lore, dating back to 1976. He's known for never missing his mark, and was played by Colin Farrell in the Ben Affleck movie.

Jason Statham is returning to the genre that first put him on our radar, with a direct sequel to Layer Cake! The movie, adapted from the book Viva La Madness, follows on straight from the events of the 2004 film, and Statham is hoping to get the cameras rolling on it next year. Statham will produce as well as star, and he'll be playing an unnamed drug-dealing hero from the book. Once again Jj Connolly, the author of Layer Cake and Viva La Madness, will be adapting his own work, so expect more of the same dark sense of humour and East London violence. No word on what they intend to do with Daniel Craig's character, although not being familiar with the book, I can't even tell you if he's relevant to the plot. Craig won't be returning, nor will Matthew Vaughan, but I for one am pretty stoked to...

2004's Layer Cake is a smart, sexy, darkly funny story about a drug dealer whose only way out of the criminal lifestyle means pulling off two very different final assignments. Not only did it give the world a great movie, but it was also a sort of center stage introduction to star Daniel Craig and director Matthew Vaughn. Now, over a decade later, Layer Cake is getting a sequel, only don't expect it to be directed by Vaughn or to star Daniel Craig. After talking about it for a few years, Jason Statham has confirmed he's going to star and produce Viva La Madness. Though the main faces in front of and behind the camera are changing, there is one very important figure who isn't. Jj Connolly wrote Layer Cake based on his own book and he'll be returning to do the...

Paul Feig will always, always, always have a special place in our heart for creating the immortal TV series Freaks & Geeks. Now, however, he's given Jason Statham his straight comedy debut in Spy, which arrives in cinemas this coming Friday.
Ahead of the film's release, he spared us some time for a chat. It didn't take long for Statham's name to crop up either...

I finally watched the extended cut. Have you seen that version?
No, no!
I've always liked the movie. And Tom Hanks, of course, directed the film, having come from an acting background like yourself. What kind of tips do you pick up from someone like him?...

“Spy” star Jason Statham has been making the promotional rounds for Paul Feig’s action-comedy, during which he provided an update on the “Layer Cake” sequel “Viva La Madness.” Matthew Vaughn directed the 2004 British gangster movie “Layer Cake,” which served as one of Daniel Craig‘s first starring vehicles. The future James Bond star played a calm, cool and collected cocaine dealer known only as Xxxx, which is the role that Statham would take over in the sequel. “Viva La Madness” will see Statham’s anonymous hero trying to retire from a life of crime, but not before he runs up against London.

As a huge fan of 2004’s Layer Cake, a terrific crime caper that put director Matthew Vaughn on the map and proved a star-making vehicle for future Bond Daniel Craig, I was admittedly pretty disheartened when it was revealed a few years back that Jason Statham would be toplining sequel Viva La Madness.
Given that neither Vaughn nor Craig are involved, making a sequel didn’t feel right then, and it’s still not exactly a thrilling proposition now, with Statham telling Digital Spy that the project is on track to shoot next year:

At Den of Geek, we have spoken once or twice about our appreciation for action cinema powerhouse that is Jason Statham. Simply put, we’re fans of his work.

Jason Statham's latest film Homefront, which sees him in a role once earmarked for the writer Sylvester Stallone, pits his DEA agent against a James Franco-led drugs gang in the backwaters of Louisiana. Digital Spy spoke to Statham about his reunion with Stallone on Homefront, jumping into the Fast & Furious franchise and why he can't wait to get started on Layer Cake sequel Viva La Madness. The interview was conducted before the tragic passing of Statham's Fast 7 co-star Paul Waker.

Jason Statham has added his voice to leading figures in the stunt co-ordination sector of the industry for stunt performers to be rewarded with their own Oscar category.

I mean, all of the stunt men—these are the unsung heroes. They really are. Nobody is giving them any credibility. They're risking their necks."
