Filipino director Borgy Torre made the move from commercial and music video work in fine style a few years back with his award winning thriller Kabisera (The Patriarch) which starred Joel Torre as a man plunged deeper and deeper into a life of crime after discovering a cooler full of drugs while fishing one day. Following previous announcements of their film lineup, the Fantasia International Film Festival has released their full lineup of movies to be shown at the 18th Annual festival, starting July 17.
New additions to the lineup include 2014 Cannes Selection When Animals Dream, directed by Jonas Alexander Amby and the return of Fantasia’s showcase of animated films, Axis.
Tickets for the festival go on sale starting July 16, and the festival runs through August 5.

The bookends of Borgy Torre's Kabisera are presented with such disarmingly romantic flair that they immediately stand out from the gritty reality that consumes most of the film. Andres (Joel Torre) sits in the head of the table, while the rest of his family are eating dinner. In both the opening and the ending, Andres is all smiles, delighted in seeing his family intact and sharing a meal together. The stark difference lies with Andres' family, all of whom exchange their immaculate smiles in the film's opening with the tears and gestures of resignation in the ending.
