- Blaine believes he has the best plan to win Nationals, but he doesn't take the glee club's criticism too well when the students accuse him of being too controlling. Over in New York, Kurt also runs into control issues when the band disagrees over the venue of their first official gig that Kurt booked. Meanwhile, Sue reveals the story behind her iconic tracksuit and gets in touch with her feminine side.—Anonymous
- We open with Will tied up with a meeting and Blaine leading the kids in idea for Nationals. He's thinking something simple that highlights their voices. They think he's being a control freak and he ends up leaving.
Kurt tells the rest of Pamela Lansbury that he's booked their first gig. He's picked Callbacks, a place associated with musicals, and the rest of the band isn't sure it's the right venue. We see Kurt's fantasy of their first performance, which is a cover of Madonna's "Into the Groove" that absolutely kills.
Blaine calls Kurt to complain about the rest of New Directions not appreciating his leadership. Kurt tells him to be careful not to come off as controlling.
Sue has her evaluation to become full-time principal. One of the school board members says she has his vote. Superintendent Harris asks her to go get a beer and refers to her as a "dude."
Sue tells Becky she's bothered by Harris finding her so masculine. We see that back in the 1980s, she affected a more manly/tracksuit persona to better intimidate the students.
Blaine complains to Brad about not being taken seriously while ignoring Brad's attempts to say something. He decides he'll just sit down and shut up. Some kind of gas comes out of the vent he's sitting next to and Blaine begins to see the choir kids as Muppets. Blaine and the Muppet New Directions sing "You're My Best Friend". Afterwards they complain he didn't say anything the entire class.
Jake's promiscuity seems to be out of control. And he's being a jerk about it.
Blaine tells Jake something is going on in the choir room and advises him to sit in the back corner.
The next day in class Jake complains that there's no point in teaching them moves they can't keep up with. Marley challenges him to show them his "epic moves" and he performs a "Nasty"/"Rhythm Nation" mash-up with the Cheerios after briefly sitting in the corner. Afterwards, Figgins wakes Jake up, telling him that the rest of the kids left minutes ago. The song never happened.
Blaine makes a Muppet version of Kurt in craft class. Sue, who is wearing heels to school, bans puppets.
Sue finds Will practicing his dance moves and asks him how he's able to maintain his manliness while being involved in choir. She says she has a thing for Harris, but he doesn't view her as a woman. He compares her situation to Ginger Rogers and says he'll help her learn to lead while dancing backwards. He offers to teach her that type of strength in exchange for costume funding. She turns him down and happens to be sitting near the vent, igniting a dream sequence with Will to Fred Astaire's "Cheek to Cheek".
Bree tells Jake she's pregnant and it's his. She wants to have an abortion and doesn't want to include their parents.
Sue catches Blaine sneaking into her office to get puppet Kurt. She gives him detention, meaning he won't be able to go to New York for Kurt's show.
Blaine calls Kurt to tell him what happened. Kurt is furious and gets even more incredulous when Blaine mentions the puppet.
Only one person shows for the Pamela Lansbury performance, a man who is a huge Angela Lansbury fan.
Sue asks Unique for a lady makeover.
Jake, Blaine, and Becky end up alone in a classroom for eight hours of detention. Blaine starts to see them as puppets who are interested in his life.
Bree tells Jake she got her period. He says he's relieved and she warned him that eventually he's going to knock somebody up for real and she feels sorry for that person. She calls him "toxic."
The newly feminine Sue takes the school board on a tour of the high school. Harris apologizes for not noticing her earlier. During the tour, Figgins attempts a "gotcha!" moment with the gas leak, but Sue reveals she fixed the problem the night before. The board tells Sue they want her to be principal permanently. Afterwards, Sue asks Harris on a date and he rudely declines.
Tina catches Blaine talking to a puppet Tina. She tells him the kids talked it over and they've agreed to listen to his suggestions, whatever they may be.
Jake tells Marley he misses her "every minute of every day." He says he's the only person who can help him be a good person. She tells him he's a good friend, but she doesn't feel the same way about him anymore.
Kurt tells the rest of the band that he's booked a gig at a hot venue in Brooklyn. The lone audience member from their last show made a bootleg and gave it to his nephew, who works at a music hall. A box from Blaine arrive at the apartment in New York. Santana looks in and says "Okay, that's creepy."
Blaine talks to New Directions and tells them his idea is to be less bossy. To celebrate this new Blaine he's made a peace offering. It's puppet versions of all of them. The New York group opens up their box of puppets and the episode ends with a puppet version of "The Fox".
