Rogue has gone Rogue
darrondoyle24 April 2024
Excellent episode. A perfect follow up to episode 5 sad ending. A vengeful Rogue was needed and together a nice set up for the final 3 episodes. Portraying her as ruthless was the icing on the cake and I'm hoping she continues her path.

All characters play key parts and a surprise appearance will definitely bring joy to all Marvel fans. This series continues to take the Marvel world to another level and honor each character as major forces withing the Marvel Universe. The xmen is no longer a wolverine centric show. Happy to see the Rogue , Storm and Jean be highlighted as powerful and strong.

Rogue Nation
siddharth-2269924 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Rogue takes center stage in this episode while the rest of the X-Men play catch up. I loved her interaction with Captain America and how she throws his shield referring to how his hands are tied. Nightcrawlers eulogy was short and sweet and pays omage to Gambit. Jean recovering Emma Frost's body in her diamond form is a good indicator that she might team up again with Magneto when he returns as a villain.

The main showdown with Rogue letting Trask fall and ultimately unleashing a "Prime" sentinel gives us a taste of what's to come with Bastion's introduction in this episode as well.

As usual, the fighting scenes were crisply animated, the voice acting of all the characters phenomenal , and the world building continues. This is slowly turning into the best Marvel Project put in years.

Another episode, another 10/10
finkaidan24 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Every episode comes with a different atmosphere or vibe you can say. This episode picks up from the crazy episode 5 we were heartbroken about. No storm or Xavier reunited with the X-men yet. This episode, while not like episode 5, continues to set up the overlying arc and also allows to feel the emotions of the X-men after Remy's death which I felt is needed after such an emotional episode 5. I'm really intrigued by Rogue at the moment and her turn to vengeance to anyone involved with what happened on Genosha, especially her interaction with Boliver Trask and the consequences of her actions. Sentinels are evolving rapidly due to a newer villain in the show, Bastion. Bastion being introduced now just is even more icing on a very large cake with this show and knowing he is teaming with Mr. Sinister is very interesting. This episode had the perfect amount of action, but also feeling. Seeing one of the beloved characters being tied up by Bastion continues to build the suspense. On top of Mr. Sinister and Bastion knowing that Professor X is alive. There is no way this season is almost over, I'm not ready for it. Again, 10/10 for me, this show can't go wrong (I was even a fan of the Jubilee episode).

Rogue gets to shine!
and_mikkelsen25 April 2024
One thing I love about this show, is how much love and care they dedicate to the side characters! Whenever someone thinks about X men, they usually think off Charles, Magneto and Wolverine! However this show, gives a lot of development to the minor characters like, Jean, storm and in this case.. Rogue!

Her development after the events of episode 5 makes perfect sense! The last scene with her in that episode, was a heartbreaking moment, so now we see her in a vengefull state, with one clear goal!

Great moments with other characters as well, and a surprissing cameo that fits the episode rather than feeling shoe-horned!

Amazing animation and visuals! The action never dissapoint and only seem to improve!

The ending sets up an exciting last part of the season! If they nail it, this could be contender for best first season of a TV show, best animated superhero show and one of thf best Marvel projects!

Rogue's Revenge
moritzherz27 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Last week's episode felt like a drawback if compared to the masterpiece episode 5 was. So it was time to set things straight and the showrunners delivered!

This episode shows us what we all wanted to see last week: A revenge for the attack on Genusha and the murder of Gambit. Rogue sets out to find the person responsible for the attack and even meets Captain America. He can't help her so she logically throws his shield away and goes on.

When they finally find the person behind the attack, they find out that there is someone bigger pulling the strings behind the scenes. In her fury Rogue goes rogue and drops the guy off the building. X-Men usually don't kill humans, but this time we all understand their anger.

It turns out that this guy was some kind of cyber-mutant (sorry for my lack of expertise) and a battle starts. Luckily they get rescued by Schwarzenegger's brother and we switch to our villain who is shaving Magneto. How kind of him!!

The next three episodes will form the finale of the first season and I am eager to see, if they manage to keep the quality up. If they do so, maybe this animated form could be Marvel's future? Their live action shows were all garbage. With X-Men'97 they returned to the roots. Why not producing more of these shows? Just an idea...

More solid momentum and unashamed politics
thegreendrinker27 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I have criticized the show's breakneck pace and that still applies, but I still continue to appreciate the show's big swings. The episode deepens the normally happy-go-lucky Rogue and the narrative allows her to go as dark as she realistically would after the (presumed) death of two of her lovers. The moment she lets Trask falls to his death is cathartic because the show doesn't bother with having her struggle over killing a genocidal maniac. The man is far beyond redemption.

I also appreciated the flagrant disdain for "tolerance politics". The Beast even cites the Martin Luther King, Jr. Quote about "riots being the language of the unheard" to chide a reporter for hand wringing about rioting when mutants are being systematically murdered. The point is not that rioting is ideal (or good- bad actors torching small businesses are not helping) but that it WILL always happen when protests grow large enough. And is telling when people are more concerned about damaged property than the lives of marginalized people.

I appreciate that X-Men 97' is willing to take a stand on political issues and risk some people disagreeing or being offended. Yes, I agree with the takes of the episode and that makes me like it more. But that is because storytelling always has a point of view and telling the truth often means risking some people thinking it isn't. This episode allows its angry beating heart to be taken seriously instead of dismissed out of hand by people fearful of systematic change.

Rogue Went... Well, Rogue.
kyliemm24 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I knew we were coming back to emotional trauma.

I felt for Rogue so hard and it's not surprising she went on a total rampage after Gambit and Magneto had died, two of the only men she ever loved and one of them she could physically touch. It's clear she was more torn up about Gambit since she realized he was the one she clearly loved more than anything. It's just heartbreaking she never got the chance to tell him. I know Rogue screwed up back in episode 5 but I'm sure if she had to make the choice again, she would have gone with Gambit.

Rogue was straight up scary in this episode. From taking Cap's shield and throwing it away, to threatening Ross to straight up murdering Trask. After witnessing so much death, including Gambit's it's no surprise Rogue turned heartless and cruel. The last bit that got me was her crying into Nightcrawler's chest. Her sobbing was so real and I wanted to cry with her.

The big bad was revealed and his name is Bastion! And Magneto's alive!

Pretty Good Episode, More Style Than Substance
infinitetyler28 April 2024
Looking at the other reviews it's clear that saying 'X-Men '97' is anything less than animated perfection is tantamount to a hate-crime, but I'm gonna give a based opinion anyways.

Ep7 a pretty solid episode, probably in my top 3 so far. It was more action-oriented than some of the other episodes, but also more preachy than others. The cameos were cool to see, but also a bit forced. It was good to see Rogue's character evolve; they're giving her a lot of depth, although I can't say the same applies to most of the team. Jubilee, Rogue, Storm, Sunspot, Magneto, and Prof X have been the most developed, and Wolverine has just kind of been there in the background; which doesn't make the show bad, but reasonable people aren't going to award a 10 to an X-Men that focuses on the B-squad either. The movies committed the same sin when they decided to focus on Mystique because Jennifer Lawrence was popular at the time. It's only a concern because there are a couple of episodes remaining and we haven't really seen the core team together in action since the first episode.

Anyways, they finally wrapped up the tangent storylines from the last few episodes and we're back to the main, and I would argue most compelling, storyline of the series. The writing is pretty good, particularly during the first half. The plot didn't conclude with anything on par with Ep5, but the story moved along nicely and led to the revelation of a new villain, so I'm looking forward to the next episode(assuming the show-runners don't go off on a tangent about Morph finding true love at a vegan farmer's market or something). It seems like it would be more cohesive not to drop the Professor X storyline for an entire episode, but maybe that decision makes more sense in the context of the complete season.

Pretty good episode, and apparently if you're a lightweight nostalgia drunk then it's the best thing you'll ever see. I'm still on the fence in the 'Invincible vs XM97' debate, but will likely land on 'Invincible' unless they pull something epic in the finale. XM97 is more creative, but Invincible is more grown up.

X-Men 97 goes to Terminator
Artemur24 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Despite this episode suffering from rushed, choppy storytelling, soap operaish sappy sentimentality, and cramming too many plot points and characters into its 30-minute run time, this is a good set-up episode for the next final episodes.

Seventh episode's first part basically deals with grieving characters after Gambit's death and the Genosha genocide, and after that, we are introduced to the new villain Bastion, who seems to be a very dangerous, evil, and scheming villain against the X Men team. It's a kind of transitional, expository, dialogue-heavy, slow-paced, and confusing episode with some cameo characters and these parts about Roberto Costa coming out to his mother as a mutant were sort of uninteresting to me because this is the seventh episode but this kid is still an uninteresting, unlikeable, and bland character, and he was just there to be a partner to Jubilee. He is still reluctant to use his powers and get into the action, and that makes him a really boring character.

Overall, seventh episode tied very well to episode five, and it was quite dark and gritty. Some plot developments really remind me of Terminator movies, and I'm really curious about the new developments in the story for the next three episodes.
