Paul Hyett’s debut movie The Seasoning House blew me away. With its hard-hitting story and an incredible performance from Rosie Day, It was one of my favourite films of 2013. He followed it up with something completely different, the highly entertaining werewolf movie set on a train Howl, so I was now very much looking forward to checking out Peripheral.
Peripheral is once again, completely different from the directors other movies. This time more sci-fi but still entering into body horror territory. We follow Bobbi Johnson whose debut novel has become a huge hit but also sparked riots across England. Now struggling with her second novel, a stalker and trying to stay off drugs, her publishing company give her a new computer and editing software that...

Sometimes, filmmakers look to use horror as a means to make us confront the things that we fear in society and in ourselves. Other times, they just want to throw some blood and scares at us to see if they can make us squirm. It only takes a few minutes of Paul Hyett’s The Convent to realize that he’s going for the latter, and that doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing.
The titular convent is a 17th century home to an order of nuns, where lost soul Persephone (Hannah Arterton) has landed after narrowly escaping being burned as a witch. Her savior, the Reverend Mother (Clare Higgins), convinces the local magistrate that she can redeem Persephone’s soul if given the chance. I’ve got a freaky little trailer here for a new supernatural horror thriller called The Convent and the story is set in the 17th century during a time when being a witch was frowned upon.
This movie tells the story of a young woman who is falsely accused of being a witch and sent to be executed. However, she is saved from the execution and taken to a priory to repent her sins. While she is there, she discovers that something more sinister and evil is lurking there.
The main character, Persephone (Hannah Arterton) starts having horrific visions and she realizes that she won’t find salvation among the nuns because at this convent, nuns can’t be saved. They’re all evil!

Vertical Entertainment has unveiled the trailer for “The Convent,” which seeks to answer an age-old question: How many horror movies about nuns does America have room in its heart for? Continuing a trend reignited by last year’s “The Conjuring” spinoff “The Nun” and dating back to the likes of “To the Devil a Daughter” and “Mother Joan of the Angels,” Paul Hyett’s film is very much back in the habit. Watch the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis: “In the early 17th century, innocent young Persephone is falsely accused and put on trial for her life. Having kick-assed her way through Brit zom-com Ibiza Undead, Brazilian-born actress Marcia do Vales is set to star in Quail Hollow (working title), in which she plays identical twins with some pretty scary powers. Directed by Spaniard Javier De Prado, and produced by UK’s Templeheart Films, the supernatural horror begins shooting in locations around New Orleans in early 2017.
Identical twin sisters Sunny and Mila (played by Marcia Do Vales) are born with paranormal powers. Separated at a young age, Sunny ends up institutionalised, while Mila tries to lead a normal life. Ten years on, Mila goes to Quail Hollow to investigate the strange circumstances of her sister’s death and uncovers a shocking truth about their powers.
Marcia (pictured above), one of the UK’s brightest horror genre imports, commented: “I’m really looking forward to taking on what will be my biggest acting challenge yet. My father was a twin,...

Paul Hyett, director of Howl and The Seasoning House, has begun principal photography on the chilling supernatural horror film Heretiks for Templeheart Films, EnMar Productions, Red Rock Entertainment and Sterling Pictures.
Set during the 17th Century, Heretiks sees a young woman saved from execution and led to a priory to repent her sins… but discovers a greater evil lies within. Michael Ironside (Total Recall, Starship Troopers, Scanners), three-time Olivier winner Clare Higgins (Hellraiser, Hellbound, The Golden Compass) and Hannah Arterton (Walking On Sunshine) star in this atmospheric horror/chiller currently shooting in Wales.
Says director and co-writer Paul Hyett:
Being a lover of classic British horror for years I’ve been wanting to give a classic period tale a modern, harder, stylish edge. Heretiks is the perfect vehicle to do this. It’s both a richly-layered medieval character piece and a wonderful chance to showcase the latest in visual...
