TNN aired five NASCAR Winston Cup Series races in its inaugural year of live broadcasts in 1991. All five had previously aired on ESPN, which had specifically dropped both dates at Rockingham and Dover from their lineup due to the excessive run-times of those 500 mile races. After ESPN dropped both Pocono dates for the same reason, TNN began airing Pocono's June race in 1994.
On two occasions TNN aired postponed NASCAR Winston Cup Series races originally meant to air on other networks. A major snowstorm on the U.S. east coast in 1993 postponed the March 14 Atlanta race to March 20, leading to TNN replacing original network ABC. After widespread wildfires five years later in central Florida postponed Daytona's annual 400-mile July 4th event to the fall, CBS balked at airing the rescheduled race against game one of the 1998 World Series. Instead, TNN, by that time a cable affiliate of CBS, was given the honor of airing the first ever night race held at Daytona.
