POOR CONTROLS KILL THE EXPERIENCE ALMOST ENTIRELY
Terrible controls mar what could have been at least a serviceable port of a great arcade game. Cyber Sled (arcade) uses dual sticks to maneuver your vehicle like a tank. It plays incredibly well--so responsive--and is one of my all-time favorite arcade games, perhaps my favorite. The experience cannot be matched at home. It could, however, have been faithfully ported with dual analog sticks. Since this game does not use dual analog controls, it plays horribly. Even after getting somewhat accustomed to the PS1's ridiculous control scheme, it never feels natural. Avoid Cyber Sled for the PS1.
I would LOVE to see a contemporary remake using dual analog controls. PS3 /PS4 please !?! That would be so amazing. In fact, I'm surprised arena tank fighting never caught on as a (sub?) genre, given how well the mechanics would work with dual analog sticks. It's too impractical to get an actual Cyber Sled arcade cabinet, so I'll never be able to enjoy this game again : ( Oh well. Life is full of disappointment.
