Heavenly Match? Angel and Devil Tango in The Foolish Angel Dances with the Devil
Mysterygeneration20 April 2024
Don't be fooled by Kanaten's familiar premise! It takes the classic Romeo and Juliet "enemies to lovers" trope with angels and demons, but flips it on its head. As a long-time manga reader (almost five years!), I was initially worried the anime adaptation might butcher the story. Thankfully, my fears were unfounded! Kanaten is a fantastic adaptation that goes above and beyond my expectations.

Kanaten is a surprising blend of genres! It starts as a straightforward rom-com with action thrown in, but it excels in each area. Akutsu and Lily's romance feels totally believable, their chemistry sizzles on screen, and their relationship progresses naturally. The humor is hilarious - imagine Cromartie High School's zaniness mixed with the playful competition of Kaguya-sama: Love is War. But wait, there's more! The angel-versus-demon fight scenes are surprisingly good, way better than you'd expect from a typical rom-com.

The anime adaptation is a slam dunk! The characters look exactly like they do in the manga, and the voice acting is spot-on. The jokes even landed better than I expected, translating smoothly from page to screen. The animation is surprisingly good, especially for a rom-com - I was genuinely impressed by some scenes. It's clear the studio put a lot of love into bringing the manga to life.

Calling all romance fans! Looking for a laugh, some action, and a great story? Kanaten might be your new favorite. Despite being underrated (seriously, it's a 9/10!), this rom-com delivers on all fronts. Whether you're a seasoned anime watcher or new to the genre, Kanaten has something for you. Give it a try!

The Foolish Angel Dances with the Devil

Masatora Akutsu is a demon who has been sent to Earth to recruit humans to help in Hell's war against Heaven. He falls in love with Lily Amane, a girl he is hoping to recruit but unfortunately for him she is an angel with the job of hunting demons. She defeats him but rather than killing him she enslaves him; the collar she forces him to wear makes him do whatever she commands. As the series progresses they grow closer to each other; perhaps he will be able to use her to change Heaven.

I thought this was a fun enough series. The sort one enjoys while watching then forgets once one starts watching something new. The plot is decent enough if not the most original and the characters are likeable. The animation is good as are the character designs. There is some decent action, particularly when Lily's brother shows up. Overall; not a must see but fun enough.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

The tropes keeping coming this no exception

Warning: Spoilers
Love myself some loving couples, knowing most the anime have reviews is the love genre I m into the most, Foolish Angel dances with the Devil don't bring anything new just home beautiful angelic high schooler slaving a searching charming leader demon, hunting rabies dogs while playing seduction one another.

Like said there much of the story of the main protagonist looking for leader in earth so he can command hell from the war that is having, becoming slave to winged angel prettiest girl high school felt almost high school DxD with out the harem or fanservice. By the third act gets interesting when angel brother comes to visit torturing her making her servant to rescue fight issued than goes full berserk until the brother n sister works together to snap him out of it.

That's it the fight they had with the angel avatar was awesome the many's ways stopping it that change the animation some Crackaboom directions more light n fluid of course.

Pointing that got interest when she discovers info about the new form of he's demon the weapon that holds giving chance to enter to kingdom heaven, n would be more plot from her family trying to sabotage every step she does her life.

But follow the tropes that romcom animes has, From beginning there not much to bring.

So conclude the anime feels xited, the couple are fun trying to seduce one another, n the avatar figh rules. Wish they add more plot to the antoganys, what interest ve with sister would become more xiting, but think chances won't ve second season.
