Hong Kong courtroom drama film “A Guilty Conscience” edged aside Chinese and Hollywood tentpole films to top the mainland China box office in its opening weekend.
According to data from consultancy service Artisan Gateway, the film earned $8.5 million (RMB58.4 million) in its opening three days between Friday and Sunday.
“The Wandering Earth 2,” which has been in cinemas for over a month, earned $7.4 million to elevate its cumulative total to $568 million.
“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” which opened on top a week earlier, collected $7.0 million, giving it a 10-day cumulative of $31.4 million.
Zhang Yimou’s “Full River Red” placed fourth with $5.5 million over its sixth weekend. Its cumulative since Jan. 22 now stands at $648 million.

Endeavor Content has boarded its first predominantly China-sourced film title, “Guilt by Design.” The company has also appointed Chia Chou as its first China-based sales executive. Both will make their debut at FilMart in Hong Kong this week.
“Guilt,” an action drama, comes from co-financiers and co-producers Grand Canal Pictures, Perfect Village Entertainment and Mei Ah Films. Derek Yee, Jason Guo and Ellen Eliasoph are producing. Endeavor will handle all rights outside China. It will be distributed in China by Mei Ah later this year.
“Guilt” is written and co-directed by Hong Kong filmmakers Lai Siu Kwan, Sze Pak Lam and Yongtai Liu, making their feature-filmmaking debut. Ace Hong Kong director Dante Lam has begun work on “The Rescue,” which is set to be the biggest-budget Chinese film made this year. The $90 million action-adventure picture has already claimed a coveted Chinese New Year release slot in 2020.

Macau’s architectural heritage is showcased in a new photographic exhibition, Experience Macao Cinematic Style. It is timed to coincide with the opening today of the 3rd edition of the International Film Festival and Awards Macao.
Organized by the Macao Government Tourism Office, the exhibition includes pictures taken by a 15-strong mix of professional photographers and key opinion leaders from neighboring Hong Kong. It includes a mix of stills photos, 360-degree images and drone photography.
Among the award-winning photographers are Kelvin Yuen, the 2015 National Geographic Photo Contest award-winner; Andy Yeung who came in second at the 2017 National Geographic Travel Photographer of the Year, and Wilson Lee, one of the category winners at the Sony World Photography Awards 2015.
