In a war film, what’s the difference between nasty exploitation and just plain honest reportage? André De Toth made tough-minded action films with the best of them, and this nail-biting commando mission with Michael Caine and Nigel Davenport is simply superb, one of those great action pictures that’s not widely screened. To its credit it’s not ‘feel good’ enough to be suitable for Memorial Day TV marathons.

As much as we all love a good military show, it takes more than just action to get us attached. There’s a certain level of personal attachment that must occur in order for viewers to really connect with military-based characters. New show The Brave does this quite successfully in its premiere on September 25, giving us an action-packed military show that has highly-trained-yet-still-just-human type of characters. The Brave focuses on an elite Special Ops team as lead by Mike Vogel’s Captain Adam Dalton. Hi steam includes Jaz the sniper as played by Natacha Karam, McG the medic as played by

An elite Special Ops team launches a new mission Monday as NBC’s The Brave joins the fray of military dramas (CBS’ Seal Team, The CW’s Valor) debuting this season. Was the operation successful? We want to know what you thought, but first: a quick recap.
A good chunk of the series premiere involves meeting Capt. Adam Dalton (Under the Dome‘s Mike Vogel) and his team, a pre-existing group of elite military operatives: sniper “Jaz” Khan (played by Natacha Karam), combat medic “McG” McGuide (Noah Mills, 2 Broke Girls) and”Preach” Carter (Demetrius Grosse, Banshee) — as well as new...

The Brave has an uphill battle to find an audience and that may result in this turning into a show that a lot of people wish they had watched once it gets a few episodes in and struggles in the ratings. It’s fantastically niche for a start, because no matter how much it tries to wedge itself into the mold of popular cop shows, special forces hits and extraction missions just aren’t everyone’s cup of tea.
If that weren’t enough, there is an air of the formulaic about the series which might not go over too well simply because the jump from the war room to the streets and back again reminds too much of too many shows.
Then we have to add in the idea that there are those out there who may be wishing that we would just stop trying to make Anne Heche happen.

The bigger the budget, the safer a film usually ends up playing things. It’s rare that anything approaching blockbuster status feels risky or revolutionary. Most of the time, big time summer fare especially feels as generic and safe as possible. Every so often though, a release hits that has a huge budget and yet also seems like a gigantic dare. This week, something of that sort hits screens in Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. The movie hopes to create a brand new cinematic world, one that will capture your attention. Whether it does or not remains to be seen, but the ambition is certainly there. Science fiction fans may very well eat it up. Time will tell. At the very least, it’s a July release that will stand out from the pack, by and large. The film is an adaptation of the French comic book...

When submarine pilot Mats (Johannes Kuhnke) is approached by a low-rent Donald Pleasence to take a three-man Special Ops team deep into contested waters near the 38th Parallel, he’s understandably sceptical. Leading the mysterious trio is “Red” Edwards (Charlotte Salt), who’s joined by the belligerent Parks (James McArdle) and the gentle Denholm (Elliott Levey).
While submerged, the top ship is boarded, and suddenly the four explorers are trapped together in the underwater chamber. To add vinegar to the wound, catastrophe strikes and they start taking on water. Tensions fray. Clichéd dialogue is exchanged. Who, if anyone, will emerge alive?

"If you do this, we're dead. We're all dead!" The first official trailer has debuted for an indie survival thriller titled The Chamber, which first premiered at the Horror Channel FrightFest last year. The film is about a Special Ops team that takes a small submersible craft (read: submarine) beneath the Yellow Sea off the coast of North Korea. Some things go wrong, and they end up trapped underwater in a tiny "chamber" - hence the title. The cast includes Charlotte Salt, Johannes Kuhnke, Christian Hillborg and Elliot Levey. I'm not sure what to make of this. The footage is a bit confusing - I can't tell if it's some weird creature or alien under the water, or something the North Koreans put down there, or their own screw up that trapped them. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Ben Parker's The Chamber, direct from YouTube: A claustrophobic...

Who would you actually call if ghosts started running amok and doing real damage to a major city? Maybe the military, since the real Ghostbusters don't exist. That seems to be the idea behind Spectral, a sci-fi action movie in which an American Special Ops team is sent into a seemingly war-torn spot in Europe to fight what turns out to be ghost-like supernatural beings. The first trailer has arrived, and it looks like a combination of Black Hawk Down, Aliens and, yes, a heavy duty Ghostbusters. James Badge Dale, who has seen his share of more realistic historical combat fare in 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi and the HBO miniseries The Pacific, helps lead the mission as a brilliant government scientist. The movie...

"There's no limit to how far they can spread..." Netflix has unveiled an official trailer for the sci-fi action-thriller titled Spectral, described as "Ghostbusters meets Black Hawk Down." The plot is about a scientist who joins a Delta Forces unit that goes into a European city to investigate "mysterious phantom aggressors code-named Spectral". Anyone wishing for a more grounded approach to ghosbusting may be interested in Spectral, Nic Mathieu's debut feature, which is being touted as "Black Hawk Down meets Ghostbusters". Produced by Legendary Pictures and Universal, the film was pulled from a theatrical run in favour of a worldwide Netflix release on December 9, 2016 according to Deadline. In the film, a brilliant scientist embarks on a deadly mission with a Special Ops team of Delta Force soldiers into a battle-scarred, war-torn city, where mysterious phantom aggressors code-named "Spectral" have been causing inexplicable civilians deaths. Of course, this gritty approach reminds me of Battle: La, a film that I really dug in it's approach but also found somewhat lacking on a story level. Knott’s Scary Farm is an event in Southern California that I personally look forward to each year. Whether it is the mazes, rides, or amazing shows, this event never disappoints.
This year they revealed one of the newest mazes, titled Shadow Lands, that takes you on a journey of the samurai, and it was by far my favorite maze. The opening is an interesting type of stage with actors and an animatronic before you have to choose a path. After you begin the path, they surround you with monsters and other insane scares that are sure to frighten the guests.

The opening is an interesting type of stage with actors and an animatronic before you have to choose a path. After you begin the path, they surround you with monsters and other insane scares that are sure to frighten the guests.

Chicago – DC Entertainment, feeling the heat from Marvel Studios and the tepid response from “Batman v Superman,” comes back stronger with “Suicide Squad,” an overblown yet psychological comic book film about sociopathic villains who somehow have to save the world.
Rating: 3.0/5.0
The premise and villains are what makes it savory, the action sequences and problem-to-solve are what make it overwrought. The highlights in the film are anything not having to do with the standard issue comic book plot, and more with spending time with the squad itself. The interpretations of The Joker and Harley Quinn, in addition to the lesser known villains such as Deadshot and Killer Croc, put enough weirdness in the film to keep it interesting in parts. This is definitely not Shakespeare, nor close to the best of what Marvel Studios offers, but it’s a decent enough popcorn movie for summertime escape.

Two New York City police officers are being hailed as heroes for their quick-thinking reaction Wednesday, when they sped away from a crowded Times Square carrying what they thought was a bomb that had been tossed into their van, police said. Several hours and one suspect in custody later and, police tell People, the truth is more clear: Police allege that 52-year-old Hector Meneses threw a device appearing to be a bomb into a police van in Times Square about 11:30 p.m. local time Wednesday. The two officers in the van drove away from the crowd to minimize potential casualties from an explosion.
