The captured SS officers uniform is the famous black uniform worn by the SS in the 1930s. These Uniforms were discontinued in 1939 before the war began and the SS switched to Field grey like the Heer (Army). Also the British Soldiers refer to him as Hauptsturmführer (Captain) and his rank is that of a OberSturmbannführer (Lieutenant Colonel). This is addressed when the SS officer is first captured. One of the men say he's probably upset about not being called by his correct rank.
When raiding the pillbox at the end of the movie, the German machine guns are MG-42's, but the sound effect used is that of a M-2 Browning .50 caliber. The MG-42 has a much higher rate of fire and does not have the distinct metal sound when the bolt cycles like the sound used.
Weapons used are incorrect for the British army of the day. The 1928 Thompson was used at that time, but a folding M1 Carbine not. The American Paratrooper would have carried that. The M1 Rifle was American , the British rifle should have been the SMLE Mk what ever. The American soldier carries an M3a1 Grease gun, but is not shown carrying extra mags. What he does have is M1 enbloc .clips on his suspenders. Why?
During shooting scenes with the M1, the bolt never moves. The 1928 Thompson fire from an open bolt, yet in combat scenes is always shown closed, a common error in films of this type.
The factual listing above states that the machine gun in the pill box was an MG 42. Not so, it is an MG34. This obvious by looking at the machined round barrel shroud vs stamped more square metal shroud for the 42. As such the fire rate is correct for an MG 34. The Mg34 was a lot slower.
