It's an horrific episode- from this mother who, as far as anyone can tell, is so averse to aging that her face is stuck in a phase of perpetual 'do you smell that?' position. From listening to her version of events, Tawnee was just a young girl who happened to keep finding herself in positions of vulnerability- friends with not an ounce of integrity and allow her poor hapless daughter to take the blame and find herself in a juvenile facility for nothing more than a pipe in the car. The horror.
Except with a rudimentary search, one finds Tawnee was often found in positions of her own doing that ultimately culminated in her confinement in detention. There she decides she's homosexual and falls for an absolute psychopath who the family loves, then hates, then loves, then hates. When this monster is discovered to have been sleeping with a friend of Tawnee's, her family actually encourages forgiveness, and welcomes her into their home to live.
One day, Tawnee admits to her mother that this abhorrent human being knocked her silly and did so in such violent fashion that a tooth was punched out, and mom calls the police!! Oh no wait, mom decides it's fine, and because Tawnee loves her so much, she just can't risk her daughter's anger and does nothing. The red flags fly so fervently you swear there's a storm coming that happens to drop said flags like a plague of locusts, and when the incredibly predictable finally happens, the monster is given a plea deal and allowed to receive a SIXTEEN YEAR SENTENCE for a violent, reprehensible death that was absolutely preventable had anyone bothered to interject on Tawnee's behalf.
Why this show decides to gloss over facts as if they're bothersome and unworthy of revealing when someone is murdered is the real mystery. Mom is so concerned with being cool and hip, and definitely not aging poorly. She's absolutely absorbed in her looks that one is left with the impression that nothing matters more than a frozen face in perpetual agony.
