Cute Cast but a very poor film
Havan_IronOak8 February 2024
A tourist lands at LAX loses his wallet, breaks his phone and is "rescued" by a cute hustler who takes him while the guy is walking to his motel from the airport.

Just how the hustler has a car is only the beginning of a series of unexplained and unmotivated circumstances that make this short make no sense.

The hustler being accosted at knifepoint (by his pimp?) is just another of the totally stupid things that just doesn't make sense in what's meant to be a light hearted romantic short.

At least the two main characters are cute. And the the scene in the shower is a nice moment despite also making no sense.

Warning: Spoilers
"Lost Angel" is an American 17-minute movie from 2013, so it's 3 years old now. The writer and director is Derek Efrain Villanueva and he also plays one of the two main characters in this little story. It is the tale of a Dutch tourist coming to the US and he loses his stuff right away, but help comes from an unlikely source. Actually, that "source" is just as gay as the main character and as a result of that a love story starts between the two. Only problem is that the local guy is a hustler, who occasionally gets visited by huge violent guys that almost kill him. Luckily a thin Ducth tourist is in the same room hiding and the brutal big guy runs away of course. That was irony if you haven#t recognized it. i also wonder why we would find any of the protagonists likable. This refers to the hustler because of what he does and who his company is, but also to the tourist who goes right to a complete stranger's apartment after being only for hours in the country. But hey, nothing bad can come of it, but maybe a love story that lasts forever as we are told in the most pretentious moment of the film perhaps near the end when we hear a certain Spanish-language quote randomly thrown at us. Don't worry, there are more pretentious moments. The title is already one of these. All in all, this film is an unrealistic failure with unlikable protagonists. I highly recommend not to check it out.

a Dutch tourist

One of many short gay films about romance in unrealistic terms. A Dutch tourist visits Los Angeles. He lost his money ( maybe documents , to), his phone is brocken and only the help of young Latino helps him for a place for sleep.

His host is a hustler . Violent scenes define in precise manner the risks of his job .

A phone call - unrealistic at whole - seems the end of comradery between this so different guys but the pink end ignores this presumred good point.

The result - one of films about nothing, like a sort of spring morning when you go to job.

The unrealism of situation- especially the gesture of brutal man intimidated by Dutch tourist is the basic motif for that, like the absence of real story, reduced to a sketch and the end who pretends define Lost Angel as romance. And, sure, the strange to eccentric ( kitsch sounds unpolite ) title.
