Exclusive: After more than a decade, Silver Lining Entertainment, the management and production company founded by veterans Jeff Golenberg and Sam Maydew, is dissolving.
Golenberg and fellow Silver Lining partner Jason Shapiro have launched Strand Entertainment, a management and production company based in Los Angeles, bringing most of Silver Lining’s managers with them. Maydew has formed his own management/production company, 734 Media. The split we hear was amicable, with the former partners’ paths diverging, a process accelerated by the pandemic.
Joining Golenberg and Shapiro in their new venture are longtime colleagues Tarik Kanafani, Emily Rifanburg, Kaelyn Hutchins, and Aileen Lewis. Jeff’s brother, manager/producer Rob Golenberg, who was a partner at Silver Lining, has formed GoGi Entertainment, a new production company focused on international productions, with his former assistant Paulina Giron Velasquez. As one of the most innovative and talented creators in mainstream showbiz, Adi Shankar proudly flaunts his pop culture fanboy cred through his projects. But most importantly, he knows how to amalgamate the good bits of popular IPs of yesteryear with contemporary sensibilities seamlessly and deliver a unique work of art at the same time. His collaboration with Netflix has proved to be a blessing for the streaming service, which has resulted in the creation of not only arguably one of the best animated franchises in recent years in the form of the Castlevania series, but also a better live-action satire of the oversaturation of superhero culture than The Boys, with the underrated The Guardians of Justice. With the recently released six-episode animated series Captain Laserhawk: Blood Dragon Remix, an adaptation of Ubisoft’s Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, Adi Shankar expands his Bootleg Universe (fan-made adaptations of popular IPs) on Netflix,...

The elite and prestitious graduate acting program of New York’s The Julliard School will go tuition-free beginning this fall, a massive shift in the economics of arts schooling and student opportunities.
The school announced the move today, explaining that the four-year masters program, which currently costs each student about $53,300 per year, will eliminate the tuition after having raised $15 million including key gifts from Broadway theater producers Stephanie P. McClelland and John Gore.
The fourth year of the four-year program has always been tuition free in order for the school to compete with the many three-year arts schools, but the switch to entirely tuition-free is a major change in the world of elite arts education.
In a statement, the school said this morning, “Today we announced that the Drama Division’s Mfa in Acting will join Julliard’s growing list of tuition-free programs. Beginning in fall of 2024, all four years...

Over the course of 10 seasons, Bravo’s “Vanderpump Rules” has evolved into something no one could possibly have imagined when it premiered in 2013. A chronicle of the personal lives of restauranteur (and “Real Housewife“) Lisa Vanderpump’s young employees, the series is not only the first truly great work of art to emerge from the reality TV genre but one of the most involving and expertly assembled shows on television, period. What began as a soapy account of attractive 20somethings trying to make it in Hollywood (a sort of mashup between the “Real Housewives” franchise and MTV’s “The Hills”) has become a layered, poignant meditation on what it means to grow up, acquiring the breadth and depth of a great novel without abandoning its fizzy pop surface.

As non-industry folk are hopefully learning during the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, the vast majority of the union's members are not multi-millionaires. Acting is a job, and if you want to maintain a successful career, you can't always be as picky as you'd like to be. You have to audition aggressively, take what's offered, and, as soon as you've completed the gig, start fretting about doing it all over again.
If you're really lucky, you might eventually piece together a body of work that serves as a calling card. At this point, you're a known quantity, someone for whom a writer might create a character. Or perhaps your strengths as a performer will make you a director's first choice for a specific role.
For most actors, it's a long, hard road to this kind of rare success, and once they've attained it, they take nothing for granted. That's why someone like...

Celebrity couple Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig looked elegant at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships over the weekend, as the pair wore sunglasses to watch the men’s singles final between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz. The 20-year-old Spaniard went on to win in an upset.
The married couple donned formal outfits in addition to the spectacles. Weisz wore a light khaki blazer over a white collared shirt, while her husband opted to wear a light gray suit over a white collared shirt and gray striped tie, the only pop of color being a crimson pocket kerchief.
Craig and Weisz have been married since 2011, tying the knot in a private (and secret) ceremony with only four people in attendance: Craig’s daughter, Ella, Weisz’s son, Henry and two close friends. In September 2018, the couple welcomed their first child together, a daughter whose name has not been announced to the public.

Jessica Chastain was terrified to return to the stage.

Sir Ben Kingsley, 79, has one foot planted in Beverly Hills, the other in Oxfordshire, England — nearly 200 miles southeast of his native Lancashire, where he was raised by his British model and actress mom and his father, a Kenyan-born family doctor of Indian descent.
“[Oxfordshire] is more Shakespeare country,” Kingsley said on the phone. “The Cotswold Hills, limestone hills that run through the center of the British Isles across the Channel into France. It looks like Normandy. Our house looks rather French, a petite château. It looks like it should be on a wine label.”
Wine is front and center, per usual, at this year’s Sonoma International Film Festival, where Kingsley is attending the world premiere of “Jules,” from director Marc Turtletaub and writer Gavin Steckler. In this sci-fi heart-tugger with a senior twist, Kingsley delicately portrays elderly Pennsylvania suburbanite Milton. He’s losing control of his memory, so no one...

Horror as a genre has existed in every form, from macabre paintings to spooky songs to the tremendously popular horror movies that have terrified generations of thrillseekers who love the creeping dread of heroes pitted against monsters of every shape and size. Many different aspects of our culture have been indelibly marked by horror -- including the seemingly innocent and innocuous board game.
Of course, there are plenty of movies about games turning deadly, but we're not talking about your ouija boards or even party games like "Bodies Bodies Bodies." No, we're here to discuss friends turning into traitorous villains, vintage monsters raiding cursed towns, hotels you never check out of, and endless onslaughts of ghosts. Our list covers 10 perfect pairings between a spooky, scary movie night and blood-curdling board...

The extremely small group of Nobel laureates who have earned Academy Award nominations grew today by 33. Kazuo Ishiguro, one of the world’s most feted contemporary writers, earned his first Oscar nomination for his adapted screenplay for the film “Living,” which also earned a Best Actor nomination for Bill Nighy. How many other Nobel prize winner have pulled off this feat? And will it help Ishiguro pull off a victory in this competitive category?
Ishiguro is now the fourth winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature to earn an Oscar nomination. The first was George Bernard Shaw, who received the Nobel in 1925 for, in the words of the Nobel committee, “his work which is marked by both idealism and humanity, its stimulating satire often being infused with a singular poetic beauty.” He won the Best Screenplay prize in 1939 for adapting his own play “Pygmalion,” sharing the Oscar with Ian Dalrymple,...

Trump campaign lawyer Jenna Ellis wrote a memo dated the day before the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol arguing that then-Vice President Mike Pence should refuse to count presidential electors from states won by Joe Biden.
In the Jan. 5 memo, obtained by Politico, Ellis went so far as to claim Pence had the authority to prevent a Biden presidency because certain parts of the Electoral Count Act were likely unconstitutional. Accordingly, Ellis wrote that the vice president “should … simply stop the count” when the time came for Arizona’s electors to be accepted.

Big news for Paul Thomas Anderson’s awards campaign as his film “Licorice Pizza” was named the best picture of the year by the National Board of Review. The MGM and United Artists Releasing movie also picked up prizes for directing, and shared the breakthrough performance award for newcomers Alana Haim and Cooper Hoffman.
Another newcomer having a great day is Latina Rachel Zegler, who won best actress for her turn in Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story.” She is just the second Latina to ever win the category since Fernanda Montenegro in “Central Station” (1998).

Jonathan Karl’s Betrayal focuses on the final year of Donald Trump’s presidency, and while it’s hardly the first book out this year to capture the tumult of 2020, it is an indication that the bombshells and revelations from that White House will continue well into the future.
Following Bob Woodward and Robert Costa’s Peril, Michael C. Bender’s Frankly, We Did Win This Election, and Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker’s I Alone Can Fix It, Karl’s Betrayal — with the subtitle The Final Act of the Trump Show — breaks new ground, with a heavier emphasis on the election’s aftermath and the storming of the Capitol on January 6. Another day, another revelation of an attempt to subvert American democracy.
Michael Flynn, the conspiracy theorizing former Trump national security adviser, and Sydney Powell, the conspiracy theorizing former Trump attorney, made a pair of unhinged pleas to the Department of Defense in search of help overturning the 2020 election results. The efforts were reported in Betrayal, the new book from Jonathan Karl chronicling the last gasps of the Trump administration.
According to the book, after the election, Flynn placed a call to Ezra Cohen, a senior intelligence official who had previously worked under Flynn.
