Still stunning just slow
elias-3401327 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The first episode exceeded my expectations with the stunning visuals of broken France. We saw glimpses of variant walkers and were introduced to a group of well equipped nuns. While episode two went back to the beginning, which I loved. It's always great to see people still figuring out what's happening. However, episode three hits a predictable roadblock with Daryl and the group finding yet ANOTHER group. This one group has an underground nightclub with drag performers, also run by Isabelle's former lover. It was an interesting dynamic to see Daryl and what's his face go at each other. But the burning walkers as they fall out of the windows looked so bad. They all just seemingly happened to be next to windows and then slow down as they approach Isabelle. She has about 20 seconds before they even get close. Keep the consistency with the walkers please!! And why do they all have the same hair? It makes them look boring and bland. I miss the early days of original and snarly looking walkers. Now they just bore me. I'm sure it'll pick up as we get to the finale but it needs to hurry up. It's definitely better than Dead City but depends how long for.

The Return to Paris
claudio_carvalho7 February 2024
Daryl, Isabelle, Laurent and Sylvie arrive in Angers, where Isabelle has a friend that may have a radio; however, the man is completely insane, and Daryl decides to go to Paris. Once in Paris, they go to the cemetery where they meet Fallou Boukar and his men. He introduces his group and brings Isabelle and her group to his community. Daryl asks for a radio since he wants to return to the United States, and Fallou Boukar tells him that he will take him to a place where he can negotiate everything. Isabelle goes with Daryl to her apartment, and she gets a photo of Lily at the Eiffel Tower and her valuable belongings stole when she was a thief. On the next day, they go to an underground night-club in the catacombs to negotiate a boat for Daryl. Isabelle stumbles upon Quinn, who owns the club, and learns who the father of Laurent is. Meanwhile, Stéphane Codron meets Marion Genet telling her that he is hunting down Daryl, and she hires him to join the Pouvoir.

"Paris Sera Toujours Paris" is a reasonable episode of "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon". The beginning of the episode is hilarious, with the insane man conducting an orchestra of walkers. It is not clear yet how Daryl traveled to France and the beef with the powerful Marion Genet. Now that Isabelle knows who the father of Laurent is, lets see if she will tell the teenager that she is his aunt and guardian. My vote is seven.

S1.E3 - Not As Good As the Previous Two Episodes But Still Good [8.6/10]
panagiotis19932 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S1. E3) My Reaction / Review for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 1 Episode 3 ''Paris Sera Toujours Paris'': Episode 2 was good and I gave it a rating of 9.2/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. This episode is only 48 minutes long? That sucks. The dude with the funny hair looks kinda nuts. So now they are going to Paris, im curious to see what's going on in Paris. I don't understand what is so special about this kid? They think he is some kind of messiah? That's a bit dumb, isn't it? So it seems like the main boss is this woman, interesting. A post-apocalyptic nightclub? Why? How? Now I've seen it all. This episode is not as good as the previous two episodes but still good. The fight scene towards the end was pretty cool. Overall a really good episode but not perfect, my rating is 8.6/10.

Daryl on his way to go back his home(America) but he gets attacked by both the people those who were searching for him and by the person Daryl killed his brother but in between the special kid gets kidnapped, for what we will come to know in the coming episodes. Maybe walkers are trained with human charactertistics that creates problems for both sides.new characters didn't show much impact in this episode hope they gets more screenplay in coming episodes, selling drugs and smoking weed shows the production and cast made these series during high which helped them to get new ideas to be included.noo.

Episode 3

Warning: Spoilers
Three episodes in and the show is just not quite working. They don't know what to do and have a cartoonish villain who is somehow able to endlessly track Daryl and his gang across France just because he had a map. Completely improbable.

I like The Walking Dead universe continuing with these stories, but we need a little bit better than this. This is just not working and they are reaching for plots only a handful of episodes in to an already short season. The night club thing feels like something we would have seen on Z Nation and not on a show from the world of the AMC drama The Walking Dead.

With three episodes left, the show needed a slow burner for build up, a good episode
Holt34426 September 2023
The third episode of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is written by Coline Abert, whilst Tim Southam directed the episode, titled "Paris Sera Toujours Paris". The episode continues where the previous episode left us, with the group en route to Paris and making their way to the settlement which will help them before being able to move on. Through the antagonist Codron, a character I'm starting to like more and more which means the writing is good, we get to see more of the antagonistic group which is important for the grand story. If you compare him to The Croat in Dead City, then this character is much more three dimensional and he has that special thing which makes an antagonist great. He isn't evil for the sake of being evil, can we even call him evil? In a world like this. We see more of Anne Charrier as Genet through Codron, Romain Ievi is great in the role. Other performances I liked were Isabelle Norman Reedus and Clémence Poésy, also Louis Puech Scigliuzzi as Laurent. This character is slowly growing on me, perhaps it's his chemistry with Norman Reedus which makes it so good. I read how Norman got a say in who would be cast, I get why. We also get to meet a new character and his establishment, Adam Nagaitis as Quinn: The owner of an underground nightclub in Paris called the Demimonde. Or not as new as we saw him in flashbacks in the previous episode, a character I thought we would never see again but I'm happy I was wrong. Quinn has the potential to be a good character!

The group arrives in Paris, Isabelle confronts her past while getting closer to Daryl; Codron seeks help from the leader of a growing nationalist movement called Pouvoir, putting the Union of Hope and Laurent under dangerous scrutiny.

Great establishing shots, the production and art design were fantastic. The mise-en-scene was also quite great, they set up each shot so perfectly and I think the steadicam and the lens choice is perfect for the show. The cinematography is truly amazing. I love how they've finally arrived in Paris, a city I visited back in August and seeing all the landmarks in this show and simply the way they shot it, made me smile. Everything around the filmmaking was great in my opinion. The pacing is good and I would say it's nicely edited. The set design, costume and makeup department, lightning, composition, and so on. Everything about the filmmaking is great, direction too.

This was actually a pretty good episode, not as great as the previous two though, but hey that's completely alright. With three episodes left, the show needed a slow burner for building up towards the final three. The Walking Dead have always been about the characters, which is the true reason it's called The Walking Dead, because of the quote said by Rick Grimes. That's why an episode like this is great to me, giving us time with characters and seeing them grow, it's important. Daryl Dixon has been with the main show since the first season, here he is on his own show and still growing as a person. This episode focuses on Daryl and Isabelle, two great characters. It's great drama. For the last remaining episodes, all characters and groups/establishments have been introduced, now the sole focus can be to tell the remaining story. There's one thing I really disliked and found to be some TWD S11 and Fear kind of writing, the ending. It left a sour taste in my mouth, it's nothing big. Overall, the writing was good, Coline Abert is fairly new to the industry but two things I loved about her writing was the dialogue and knowledge of Paris, her being bilingual is probably the reason for that. Loving the authenticity and the French dialogue throughout the show.

Kind of illogical
vaklavkoca25 September 2023
I'm liking the show overall so far because I really like Daryl. But I feel like this episode and the previous one have the same problem. Both episodes have a community that seems just completely illogical to exist in the apocalypse. In the previous episode there was a pre-school who somehow survived. This episode has a nightclub with electricity and everything powering lights and mics in the catacombs beneath Paris. How does a preschooler fight off a zombie? How does a community survive in the middle of Paris? How do they get food? How are they getting water? It makes the zombies seem very trivialized. Like these pre-schoolers have survived. These people are surviving so easily that they are running a nightclub. There's a dude who made a zombie orchestra...Like it really trivializes the struggles that Rick's group went through. If a pre-schooler can survive so easily, why couldn't the characters in the walking dead? Overall I'm liking Daryl and his relationship with the female lead and the kid, but I wish the writers would think more about how these communities can exist in the walking dead universe.

Paris Will Always Be Paris
TMAuthor2325 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Ah, so we hit the familiar ditch in the zombie road.

This is an episode, even though it introduces a new community that welcomes Laurent, that does very little while supposedly filling in more character backstories.

*Spoilers* We learn that a character named Quinn is Laurent's father. And while that's surprising it really doesn't mean anything significant.

Darryl learns that Isabelle wasn't always a nun, but we already knew that so it feels repetitive.

And we see more detail with creepy Genet's zombie experiments. Where will that lead her? Probably no where good.

Codron, the guy who's been following them because Darryl killed his brother, catches up to them and there's a fight where Darryl falls through a roof. We know he'll survive, but that's the end of the episode.

What I didn't like in this episode? The utopian self sufficient community that, just like old old times, gets invaded by awful people who ruin everything. Seems like all the nice places get messed up when one of our heroes show up. This is why we can't have nice things.

And guess what? There's a bustling, thriving speakeasy cabaret in the apocalypse. Really? Then what about a five star restaurant? A car dealership. A high end Farmer's Market. What a lame self indulgent move by the writers. Implausibility with a side of Agenda anyone? I'll pass.

Also, the messianic role that Laurent is supposed to hold feels hokey. They need to explain it soon, because his magic consoling touch makes little sense at this point.

Darryl is no closer to communicating with people back home, or with people that can get him home.

Let's hope episode four is better, because we've all seen zombie smashing before, weird zombie caretaking (a bizarre zombie orchestra that has nothing to do with anything other than being gross), sweet communities getting railed, and Darryl getting left supposedly dead or severely injured too many times.

Let's turn the page quickly!

Sadly boring
yahaira-729-69470125 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Still no improvement this spinoff is dense Daryl's character just stands around checking out the streets people and gets a tour by Lizzie the nun . There is a lot of blank stares between characters the old French culture is infected with walkers but they are like minters kids run from there us not the action scenes in the WD series. There are no exciting characters to support Daryl. The only goal here is for him to move through these boring people and get back home to his people. Daryl seems reluctant to love, care and connect with the kid 'the messiah ' I really sont think the Christian mythos works here. Somehow perhaps they will get around to explain the CRM and I ther ways of defeating the virus. Geez.

It's dipping again!

Warning: Spoilers
Yeah its a French show or set in Paris, I get it. So naturally everything is smooth and polished, naked art, paintings, singing and dancing. Cool dramatic closeup scenes by the now lady who was in Harry Potter Triwizard Tournament movie Fleur Delacour (i had to search for that). I had a feeling she was she was in HP and IMDB confirmed it. So memory still works i guess.

Anyways, nothing much happened in this one. Just a filler episode.

Had a few plot points that are unraveling thought like why the walker here are toxic and seems to be more powerful.

As a guy who's into learning French language and have dabbled into a few courses here and there but never stuck to it, this French+ English hybrid show is just what i needed to get me excited once again.

I'll keep watching!!

Sigh
payne9927 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Show could've meant so much more with its potential but they just put anyone at the helm... far from interesting story line so far. I mean a drag show in a zombie centered show? Just doesn't make much sense even if it's set in Paris. Boring storytelling... it's not even this show by itself it's AMC as a whole with handling this shows universe including the back half of TWD just about all of fear the and the other two spin offs which aren't great by any means. It's turned into nothing but cash cow for AMC and that's just ruining the mains shows credibility as an above average tv show. This show isn't completely dead, they can make it up with a solid finish to the season. This was just a rant on AMC making the same mistakes over and over.

If in the first episodes we had those medieval inspirations, now everything here has a foot in the contemporary, especially in the nightclub block
fernandoschiavi13 May 2024
After a brief stop in Angers, including a bizarre zombie orchestra performing Boléro, Daryl's group finally reaches Paris. There, after a poignant encounter with a little girl - now a zombie - who used to be Isabelle's neighbor, they meet a community led by a man named Fallou. With their help, Daryl seeks out information on a ship that can return him to America, which leads the group to the Demimonde nightclub and a reunion with Isabelle's ex-boyfriend Quinn. Quinn reveals that he is Laurent's father and demands that Isabelle and Laurent stay with him in exchange for his help. Daryl rejects the deal and prepares to set out on his own after an argument with Isabelle, leading to Laurent running away after overhearing them. Codron meets with Genet, who agrees to let him lead the search for Daryl while her people continue experimenting with walkers. Pouvoir attacks Fallou's community and Isabelle searches for Laurent, while Daryl falls through a roof following a brutal fight with Codron.

Continuing Daryl's mission to return home, he and his companions need to cross Paris. As soon as they arrive, we meet a group that has developed in the outskirts of the city of light. I'm really enjoying the way the series is portraying Paris, which since the last episode has been approached as a character apart from the series, showing that the city functions - obviously differently - even after the end of the world. The scale and proportion that the technical aspects are taking in this spin-off are exceptional. Simply cinematic. As for the new group shown here, it's what I say every episode: another generic community that doesn't add to the story, except for making Laurent help a grieving woman, which further enhances the belief that the boy is the new Messiah. The leader of the community even shows to be an interesting character, leading the group to a place where Daryl can get the boat to return to the United States. This character was a great addition to the series' cast, and I genuinely hope he returns in future episodes.

Upon arriving at this new location, we discover that Isabelle's ex-husband, Quinn, is Laurent's father, which means he had a relationship with both sisters. I didn't expect anything from this character to reappear (since he was shown as a supporting character in the previous episode) and even less that he would be the boy's father. On the other hand, it seems that this hook left will play a relevant role in the development of the relationship between Isabelle and Laurent, as she now has one more thing to hide from the boy. Hopefully, this will have an impact on the plot and not just be an irrelevant revelation that leads nowhere.

Another scene that caught my attention here in this episode was the moment Isabelle returns to her old home with Daryl. The dialogue and similarities between the two characters create a chemistry between them in a surprisingly quick way, but enough to make us attach to them. With this character's growth and The Walking Dead's history of killing off characters just as they're growing, unfortunately, it is possible that her death will occur at the end of the season.

The scene of the walkers falling from the building and resisting shows the danger of the variants, which have been the great attraction of this series. However, what stands out most in this sequence is the walker child Aimeé, who was Isabelle's neighbor. Before the world fell - as shown in the previous episode - Isabelle didn't want to talk about what was happening to not scare the girl. When we see Isabelle leaving the building to leave Paris, she is looking at the little girl, and her concern about what could happen to the girl is clear - and it happens. This even shows a different approach since we rarely see walker children in all the productions of the universe. Here we see again the issue of experiments with the variants, now with an agile and strong walker, who can easily break free from chains. It is still uncertain whether these variants will actually become troublesome at some point or if they will remain only in these isolated samples, but it is really exciting to see these new walkers, and this ends up giving a breath to the franchise.

But overall, the feeling is of an arbitrary story. If in the first episodes we had those medieval inspirations, now everything here has a foot in the contemporary, especially in the nightclub block. The series' language is random, even in the way the characters' journey is not well delineated, because at one moment they are going somewhere, at another they change their minds, one moment Daryl wants a radio, the next he wants to help Isabelle get a photo of her sister... I understand the appreciation for a more intimate chapter, but better dialogues and a dramaturgy with weight are lacking for the conversations between Daryl and Isabelle to gain emotion.

Furthermore, I am having difficulty understanding the characters' arcs. Daryl seems like a visitor on the adventure, doing what they ask of him and serving as a leader whenever danger comes, but we haven't had any development that advances or makes us reflect on the character's traumas and past events, or any element that shows any kind of evolution. It's the same old Daryl. As for Isabelle, she is a compilation of generic elements from the franchise, and Laurent, well, so far this chosen prophet metaphor doesn't make much sense, and these suggestions that he is special are insufficient to create any dramatic interest in the story.

That orchestra scene...
brent-paft27 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is a harder one to review rating wise because it isn't all bad, but my god what on earth was that?

The first 30 mins give or take are pretty poor to atrocious, particularly the first 15 or so mins, mainly that orchestra scene. It was like something out of the Evil Dead films. Followed by Laurent Carriere (the 12 year old kid) educating Dixon like some Prophet all whilst a French cover of 'The Doors - People Are Strange' is playing. He then later consoles a grieving widow like Jesus.

It is really bizarre stuff.

What are these writers thinking? Are they on drugs?

Yet again the story involves the cliched antagonist story line. They did this in practically every season of TWD, even DC... Only this time it's a woman. The Stéphane Codron "you killed my brother..I must destroy you" trope is very uninspiring too.

That scientistic zombie experiment scene was another slice of cheese.

There's too much unconvincing stuff in this series it seems unfortunately.

Despite the ridiculousness of a fully functioning night club with completely working electricity, nibbles and drinks it did finally start holding my attention a little while before that and from thereon, I wasn't completely zoning out. Maybe I'd just sub-come to the absurdity?

So it isn't all bad, some scenes held my attention, but still...I can't believe people are giving this show 8s, 9s or 10s. Madness. As another reviewer put in the main reviews---fandom blindness is strong with this one.

Weak writing AMC. Please do better for the next season.

TWD to Snorefest
Nitro9000027 September 2023
I have been a fan of the original show since the start. While some of the others such as fear and Tales have there plus and minuses, this one has but one good quality, Norman Reedus. If it wasn't for him, I would have given up on this show a while ago. Problem number one, boring as heck. They are trying to put far to much substance into a show about zombies. I don't care about most of the characters, a lesson that TWD has taught us several times. Two, I don't believe that I should need to know French in order to watch this show. Most of the interactions are not subtitled and they loose me with what little plot they have. They need to call this Walking Dead Europe, please watch our show.

Not riveting
seyanklyne26 September 2023
After the first 3 episodes I hope it picks up! The original TWD had me hooked after the second episode (FYI I had never watched an episode until the series ended) and was really invested in seeing TWD-DD, not going to lie I'm not riveted to the story so far and find myself struggling to keep tuned into the story so far.

I'll say if it continues with the humdrum storyline this will be a one season series and sadly DD's character will not be remembered for his time in Paris.

We need to see some of the DD from the original and spice it up with the character and not the zombies (pun intended). Not to be a Debbie downer but if the writers don't ramp it up, they'll lose this viewer.

Just stop
thia12346 October 2023
Is it really so important to annoy the squares that you have to put a drag show in the middle of the zombie apocalypse? Like after all these years people who are still wearing makeup and false eyelashes and playing/ singing loud music in the middle of the city would be the ones still alive? Seriously? One of the things that always made The Walking Dead good was that for such an unrealistic (zombies) show it was actually hyper realistic and the characters' development etc was too. Not any more I guess. Just make Z Nation if you want to but stop calling this kind are garbage The Walking Dead. It's embarrassing pandering. Good job, you've annoyed everyone. Can we move on now to a plot?

Paris restera toujours Paris
fanou-987034 May 2024
Oh so after 12 years, Paris underground life is still on; that is terrific but likely not possible. We have seen in TWD that all ressources are gone but not in Paris, France. Of course not. Champagne and candies for the kids. Energy and water are free but not for everybody. Funny to see that the upper class leave in the basement and the lower class leaves outside.

The new bad guys are caricaturals as hell. We don't believe any minite that these people could have survived the fall. They just over act and this is really anoying.

But do not worry God will help the good ones to prevail against the bad ones.
