Jason Sarlanis knows that for some people, the Investigation Discovery network has stood for one thing: murder mysteries, frequently gruesome in nature and usually told in self-contained hourlong episodes. But with the success of docuseries “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV,” that perception is quickly changing.
“It has been a fundamental shift for us,” says Sarlanis, who is president of TNT, TBS, TruTV and Hln in addition to ID. “It has brought a spotlight back to all the other things that are outside of the lane of what people expect an ID show to be.”
Those include recent limited series like “The Curious Case of Natalia Grace” and “Jared From Subway: Catching a Monster,” as well as partnerships with producers Octavia Spencer (whose output for the network includes docuseries “Lost Women of Highway 20” and “Feds”) and Michael Bay.

Max is all of 11 days old and we’re already getting our first usage statistics. You know, beyond the earliest “Succession” series finale viewership numbers.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Warner Bros. Discovery streaming boss Jb Perrette said 70 percent of HBO Max subscribers have switched to Max. All that means is (so far) seven out of 10 users of the old app have taken the action of downloading the new one; HBO Max is no longer active. On newer gateway devices, it’s a fairly automated update process; older ones will require a more manual sign-in. Those HBO Max members who have yet to download Max are still paying for the membership.
Perrette said Max is “exceeding expectations,” and that both hours viewed (per subscriber) and total content consumed have increased each day since launch. Max launched at a fortuitous time, days ahead of the “Succession” and “Barry” series finales.

Filmmaker Michael Bay has closed a deal with Investigation Discovery to executive produce a new docuseries, which will expose a “terrifying, yet little known, true crime story” and is set to premiere in 2024.
“I’m a storyteller at heart; I’m fascinated by the human mind and exploring what makes each of us tick. When you approach documenting real-life crime from that perspective, the end result is always intriguing,” the “Transformers” franchise, “13 Hours” and “Armageddon” director said in a statement. “Known for the caliber of their programming, Investigation Discovery’s expertise in unscripted true crime is second to none, and I can’t wait to expose one of the most twisted crimes of the century.”
Bay’s series will join Investigation Discovery’s 2024 slate of docuseries, including “The Price of Glee,” “Jared From Subway: Catching a Monster,” and the upcoming three-night television event “The Curious Case of Natalia Grace,...

Jared Fogle was once the beloved face of Subway, celebrated for his 245-pound weight loss that was made possible due to Subway’s low-fat sandwiches. But after years of surveillance and sting operations, the FBI uncovered who Fogle really was: an evil man who abused 14 minors.
In Memoriam 2022: 100 Great Celebrities Who Died In 2022
In the docuseries filmmakers interviewed Fogle’s former classmates, radio host-turned-informant Rochelle Herman – who befriended Fogle to expose his attraction to minors – and two of Fogle’s victims, Christian Showalter and Hannah Parrett. According to filmmakers, Fogle declined to participate.
Herman first met Fogle in 2006 when he was a guest on her local Florida radio show.
