Why Can't They Just Follow the Books?!
Erin5026623 July 2023
Although this season is still good TV, it's not as good as the first season because of one major change: they didn't follow Mr. Box's books! The first season was pretty faithful to his first book and this season is trying to incorporate two or three together and is sadly failing in my opinion. This is the trouble I have when copyrighted material is taken from book form to screen form. Why didn't the producers just take the second book and use that story in it's full form for a few episodes and then go to the third book, etc., instead of messing about and confusing everything, making the characters not be who they were originally supposed to be!? For those of us who fell in love with the original characters, it just annoys us, I think-at least it does me! I think it dilutes the action as well. But I still am rating it high because the actors and the storytelling are still fairly enjoyable and are close to my heart. But for season 3 could we get back to the book stories?!

Please think

Love the series and most of the episodes, but annoying impulsive stupidy from a bright and beatiful lawyer in this one. Understand if Joe did somerhing llke that and that's why she possessed what she couldn't handle, but this level of lack of thinking and consequence understanding is really irritatating :) Understand it's done and made that way for the action part, but anyways and it should have been Joe who wrongfully did that. The thing that could have saved and proved the case in their favour, but stupidity came in the way and she should be angry at him for destroying the case. As usual, understand that he is not, because it's at his normal level (good, but impulsive and not the brightest)..

Who writes this?

I haven't read any of the Joe Pickett novels so I have no preconceived bias. I have read a few of CJ box's other books and believe him to be a good author. It would be difficult to imagine that the author would have signed off on some of the writing for season 2. This episode, episode 9, is truly awful. The opening scene makes Marybeth appear to be as dumb and inadequate as a bag of hammers. I find it difficult to believe that CJ Box would have a valuable main character behave in such an incredibly stupid manner. Especially after hearing the voicemail in the prior episode. Just bad writing by the show writers. At this point I really don't care how this season ends and will not be looking for a season 3.

Idiotic and Unrealistic Actions Ruin the Season
buzzpark26 November 2023
Marybeth's actions in this episode are so out of character for her and so completely unhinged that it ruins the entire season. There's no way she would have (no spoilers) done what she did.

Her actions directly destroyed the only physical evidence in their case against the rapists. Her actions also resulted in Joe responding in a fashion that is absolutely unacceptable.

The whole episode was completely unbelievable with the exception of the reveal of the identity of the woman in the cabin who dressed Joe's wounds.

While the claim is that the series was cancelled because of the shutting down of Spectrum Originals by Charter Cable. However, I think the real reason they cancelled the series is because of the horrific and unrealistic writing. I can't believe author CJ Box would sign off on such a terrible plot line. I certainly hope the books are better written.

A single episode destroys the entries series.

The entire series ruined by one insipidly stupid and ridiculous scene. The entire storyline of season 2 revolves around women being taken advantage of...the Picketts, damaged as they are, are supposed to be the brave hope for justice.

But in her moment of truth Marybeth inexplicably folds like a cheap lawn chair...instead of showing strength in her confrontation with the sheriff, she is pitifully portrayed as a sniveling coward. Her obnoxiously stupid and weak-kneed behavior was completely outside her character to date.

Just a product of disgustingly stupid, lazy writing.

I have to assume this was not the storyline in the books..but I'm not taking the time to find out.

Relax. The evidence still exists.

Like most of the reviewers, I was disappointed in this episode. The characters were all out of whack and there were scenes which were so implausible. Who knew so many blood thirsty racists could be rounded up so quickly to do some murdering?! And, then the roadblock scene when the sheriff was taking Shannon to prison before any trial. But, don't worry about him shooting the phone. Messages are stored on a server miles away. No phone needed. The sheriff should have known that. I am sure glad thise series is almost over. Joe has turned into a blubbering mass. And, where is Hank and the Grimms? This episode jumped the ferret.
