Who doesn’t like a lighthearted show with a goofy main character who is a little irritating but still extremely lovable? Well, we dare you to find at least one person who would say no to a series with a lead like that.
CBS’s new show Elsbeth premiered on the network in the end of February this year and is actually related to two other shows, The Good Wife and The Good Fight. So for many viewers, it was the main reason to even start watching the new show.
Elsbeth is a police procedural comedy-drama that follows the main character, Elsbeth Tascioni, who is a rather atypical lawyer who gives up her job and moves to New York to become a detective of sorts. She starts working with the NYPD and helping them solve cases.

More than a decade after winning a guest acting Emmy for her work as quirky lawyer Elsbeth Tascioni on CBS’s “The Good Wife,” Carrie Preston is now seeking lead category recognition for reprising the character on the same network’s “Elsbeth.” If she is included the upcoming Best Drama Actress lineup, she will make Emmys history as the first performer ever nominated as a lead for a winning dramatic guest role.
Preston was awarded the 2013 Best Drama Guest Actress Emmy for her seventh of 14 “Good Wife” appearances, which were spread over six seasons. After landing a second bid for that series in 2016, she showed up in five episodes of the Paramount+ spinoff “The Good Fight,” with her last appearance occurring one month before the series finale in November 2022. “Elsbeth” premiered this February and has already been renewed for a second season.

Like a dog with a bone, Elsbeth is on the case of a pilfered pooch like she has a bone to pick in Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 8.
Technically, it's the dog's owner that Elsbeth is looking into, but this episode is so crammed with canines that it's hard to focus on anything other than the adorable dogs.
However, at the center of "Artificial Genius" is Quinn, the CEO of a location-based crime alert app called Cerberus. Audiences who watched the Netflix show You will likely recognize Elizabeth Lail as the actress who portrayed Beck.
Elsbeth has solidified certain formulaic practices, such as having a familiar face as the murderer in each episode, but now we can add to that. Elizabeth Lail joins the list of continued actors who have already portrayed characters in The Good Wife universe.

CBS’ big hit police procedural drama show Elsbeth is wrapping up its first season run, but isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Coming as an unofficial The Good Wife’s spinoff, Elsbeth owes its renewal for yet another season to its compelling plot and some past connections to the 2009 political drama starring Julianna Margulies.
As the show still has its television run and keeps teasing the grand finale, Elsbeth’s main star opened up about one guest star that she would like to have on the show’s set. Fair to say that the actress’ desire coincides with the one of quite a lot of fans across the world.
Talking about the show’s finale at CBS’ fall schedule reveal party last week, Elsbeth Tascioni’s actress Carrie Preston revealed that “it would be really cool” to have Julianna Margulies as a guest star in the show’s next season.

It looks like Elsbeth and the NYPD will be patrolling for some paws in Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 8, "Artificial Genius." Although, considering the title of the episode and the nature of the promo, it's hard to see the connection between a missing dog and artificial intelligence.
However, if there is one thing that this show is good at, it's balancing the level of camp with a clever plot structure.
Elsbeth has easily figured out some of the genuinely bizarre methods of murder so far, like a nitroglycerin-dosed sports towel; thank you, Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 5, for that stretch of the imagination that won't soon be forgotten.
She can more than handle the procurement of a possibly pilfered pooch.
In the upcoming installment of Elsbeth's premier season, Elizabeth Lail debuts as Quinn, the weekly murderer. Viewers might recognize her as Beck from the Netflix sensation You.

There are two types of people who enjoy crime dramas: some prefer their shows to be brooding and dark, the gorier the better, while others tend to enjoy the mystery element mixed with a heartwarming comedy. Elsbeth is a sure-fire hit for the second group, but it's not the only show you might want to check out.
Here are 8 other shows that will give you as much pleasure as Elsbeth without having to wait weeks to see a new episode.

Cold feet usually come before the nuptials, but in Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 7, the groom is six feet under before the honeymoon phase has even started.
Kicking things off in "Something Blue" is the incomparable Keegan-Michael Key in the role of Ashton Hayes, father of the bride and wealthy financial advisor.
While the actor is known for his over-the-top characters, in this role, Key takes a more subdued approach in the form of an uptight uppity country club golfer.

New drama series for fall include NCIS: Origins, starring Austin Stowell as a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs and narrated by flagship NCIS series star Mark Harmon; and Matlock, a reimagining of the classic television series, starring Emmy and Academy Award winner Kathy Bates as a brilliant, wily lawyer with unusual and unexpected tactics.

CBS announced not only its fall schedule, but a full lineup for the 2024-2025 broadcast season at a Los Angeles press briefing on Thursday.
As “Young Sheldon” is currently wrapping up its final season on Thursdays at 8 p.m., a headline of the slate is spinoff series “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage” taking over that spot, leading into “Ghosts” at 8:30 p.m. Additionally, “Tracker” — not only the No. 1 new series of the 2023-2024 season, but the most-watched series overall — is getting an earlier position, moving from Sundays at 9 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Several CBS traditions remain intact. Tuesdays remain “FBI” night with the flagship series airing at 8 p.m. followed by “FBI: International” at 9 p.m. and “FBI: Most Wanted” at 10 p.m. On Mondays, “NCIS” holds onto its 9 p.m. timeslot, and after the cancellation of “NCIS: Hawai’i,” it’s 9:30 p.m. position will be taken...

CBS today became the first broadcast network to present its fall schedule. And, in line with CBS’ new strategy for long-term development and planning, the network announced its schedule for the entire 2024-25 season. It is contingent on IATSE making a new deal with the studios to avoid a strike. At the unveiling of the schedule, George Cheeks, President and CEO of CBS, said that they have contingency plans should a work stoppage occur but wouldn’t elaborate further. “If we need to delay, we are ready,” he said.

CBS is taking a page out of Netflix’s playbook by announcing its programming success in the billions of minutes watched.
If you were wondering what that might mean to a broadcast network, it measures out to 456 billion minutes of CBS programming watched in the first four months of 2024.
With two new hits on its hands — Tracker and Elsbeth — this doesn’t surprise us in the least.
Here’s the real measure of their success, though.
Viewers delivered over 30% more time spent in front of CBS programming than Netflix and over 231% more than all other streamers combined.
No wonder they’re patting themselves on the back.
Those are incredible numbers that often go unnoticed when you use traditional ratings tools to deliver the news.
Even crazier, the time spent watching CBS programming has increased by 5.8% over the same period in 2023.
People often wonder how shows can be considered a success...

Led by ‘Tracker,’ CBS Declares Early Viewership Victory for the Truncated 2023-2024 Broadcast Season
Though the 2023-2024 TV season isn’t over yet, CBS is on track to maintain its title as the most-watched network for the 16th season in a row. Provided it stays on top over the next month, the broadcaster would break its own record for the longest-ever winning streak, which was set between 1955 and 1970.
According to Live + 7 data measured by Nielsen through April 21, CBS is averaging 5.59 million viewers, putting it 580,000 ahead of its closest competitor, which is NBC with an average 5.01 million viewers. ABC and Fox trail behind at 4.29 million and 3.35 million viewers, respectively.
The winning lineup is led by “Tracker,” the Justin Hartley-led drama series that is not only the most-watched new series of the season but the most-watched series overall. Behind “Tracker,” CBS also has the next three most-watched shows: “NCIS,” “Young Sheldon” and “FBI.” The No. 5 series is NBC’s “Chicago Fire,” followed by two more CBS titles,...

It’s time for some “CSI: Nielsen Ratings.”
CBS is set to win the 2023-24 season as the most-watched network — again — it’s now been 16 straight seasons of the same. CBS has now broken broadcast television’s longest winning streak on record, which was also CBS: From 1955 to 1970, when “Gunsmoke,” “The Andy Griffith Show,” and (some of) “I Love Lucy” ruled its airwaves.
Fast-forward 50 years to the current TV season, which runs from fall (September) through spring (May), and CBS has won 21 of the past 22 years. CBS is also poised to win the season among adults 18-49, long-considered the key demographic for advertisers, as well as its own target market, viewers 25-54. It is also number 1 this year among 18-34-year-olds; Super Bowl Lviii sure helped CBS pull those victories out of its football helmet.
How big was the 2024 Super Bowl? Well, 123.4 million total viewers tuned in across multiple platforms,...

CBS has been quite brutal with its most successful shows officially cutting off big hits like NCIS: Hawai’i, CSI: Vegas and, more notably, So Help Me Todd. The cancellation news took the fans completely off guard leaving them to wonder why the high-rated show was eventually scrapped so unfairly.
Driven to the extremes, some even created a public petition pleading the channel to finally listen to the people who wanted nothing but to get their favorite series back.
Despite such a persistence worthy of everyone’s respect, the whole social media fuss has quite low chances to ever resurrect So Help Me Todd on CBS given that the main reason for its cancellation doesn’t really have to do with its high ratings.
The good news here is that the long-suffering show may be easily picked up by another studio thanks to the fans’ activities.
Will So Help Me Todd Be Revived?...

CBS has been reeling fans in with dramas for over 50 years now, and it doesn't look like the network has any plans to stop.
The network really has something for everybody in its repertoire, whether you're looking for someone quirky and spooky like The Twilight Zone or want a procedural with dramatic flair like NCIS.
There are decades of dramas to be accounted for, but we're going to focus on some of the more recent dramas on CBS.
However, that doesn't mean you shouldn't watch CBS classics like Murder, She Wrote, Gunsmoke, Dallas, The Twlight Zone, and more.
When you're not catching up on older CBS classics, here's what we recommend watching for a more modern setting.
10. Elsbeth

It's been nearly six months since the end of the unprecedented 2023 Hollywood labour disputes, which sent shockwaves through the entire entertainment industry with the suspension or cancellation of many popular and not-so-popular movies and TV series. Even now, however, the film and television industries do not seem to have fully recovered, as evidenced by distorted TV schedules, the shortening or bisection of new seasons of scripted shows, and sudden cancellations and renewals.
The case of CBS is particularly telling. While the network's flagship series such as Blue Bloods and Young Sheldon are in their final seasons, other projects are being actively renewed. Recently, CBS reversed its decision to cancel S.W.A.T. due to high ratings and picked up the police procedural for another season. The Good Wife spin-off Elsbeth has also been renewed for a second season.

One of the most important things in any TV show is its main characters, and when the story is designed to follow only one person, the stakes are even higher for them. With an ensemble cast, viewers are much more forgiving of some narrative holes, but when the entire plot revolves around a single poorly written character, the problems begin.
While some of the Elsbeth viewers have already met the titular character, the show has attracted many new viewers looking for a lighthearted yet intriguing setup. However, these new Elsbeth fans have struggled to understand Elsbeth's personality.
Is Elsbeth a Spinoff?
As a spinoff of two previously released TV shows, Elsbeth's premise relies heavily on information that viewers have already been given. Although Elsbeth Tascioni has always been a secondary character, her quirky and sweet personality has charmed enough viewers to create an entire spinoff to get to know her better.

Among all the genres that exist today on TV, we can name only a few that keep attracting viewers with its every new show. One of them is definitely a detective drama or any sort of a police drama. But with the recent desire to present everything in dark colors, it seems that CBS’s new show is right what we needed today.
We are talking about Elsbeth, the new spinoff of a popular series The Good Wife, following one of its characters, the goofy Elsbeth Tascioni, brilliantly played by Carrie Preston. She moved to New York to observe her NYPD colleagues at work and maybe catch a criminal or two herself.
Of course, as the genre suggests, she ended up meddling in every possible case herself, immediately realizing who was the criminal and offering her help to detectives and being surprised when they politely (or not) declined the offer.

There is no show that everyone doesn't love, because every idea has its own audience. The hard part is finding it among the many cable TV viewers and capturing their attention. Elsbeth, a 2024 addition to the CBS schedule, managed to find its own audience and has already been renewed for a second season thanks to its performance.
However, just like any other show, it received a fair share of critical reviews, all pointing out the repetition in the way Elsbeth handles cases. Hopefully, armed with the feedback from the audience, the team behind the show will make it even more exciting in season 2.
Is Elsbeth Good?
The quirky character of Elsbeth Tascioni originated in the universe of The Good Wife and got so much attention that she got her own TV series. Portrayed by Carrie Preston, Elsbeth is the kind of character you'd want to hang out with after a long day at work.

Something borrowed and someone blue.
The campy, high-profile murders never get old on the somewhat new series Elsbeth.
Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 7 will be giving away a wedding where the groom's side may be short one pivotal attendee.
The spoilers for "Something Blue" look like there's much to look forward to with the guest appearance of Keegan-Michael Key playing financial advisor Ashton Hayes.
So far, what we know for sure is that there is a planned wedding, a dead groom and that Hayes is definitely the killer.
As the series is past the halfway point, the well-known faces guest starring in each episode are now firmly solidified as the episodic killers, especially since It would certainly be a waste for the showwriters to deviate from the formula now.
However, since Key's character can clearly be seen dumping the victim's body, it's all but assured that things will stick to the usual script.

Though Elsbeth’s season 1 has two more episodes to run with, the major plot twists have already started their way in.
The latest, sixth episode An Ear for an Ear that aired on April 25 made many fans across the world sigh in relief despite a revelation that now may change everything in the show — but the good point here is that it finally showcased Elsbeth’s commitment to being true to herself and to others.
Elsbeth Episode 6: A Spoiler-Heavy Recap
In episode 6, Elsbeth opens all the truth about her investigation into Captain Wagner to officer Kaya Blanke who the main character became friends with in the beginning of the show.
Though Elsbeth had to make a really hard choice of whether revealing all her secret cards was worth it, she nonetheless opted for not aggravating the whole situation. This decision comes as something comforting not only for Elsbeth herself,...

The end of the TV season is always heartbreaking.
Not only do our favorites wrap up for the season, but some shows end forever. And the 2024 season is one of the worst ever.
There are at least seven series ending that we don't want to say goodbye to, but the finales are coming up fast.
The 2024 season was more heartbreaking than most. The season was truncated because of the WGA writers' and Sga-aftra actors' strikes.
Many beloved shows had short seasons of 10-13 episodes, and some with even fewer new shows. There have been long hiatuses that seemed to begin almost as soon as shows finally started airing. Worst of all, many series cancelations were announced just as shows began airing.
There was a bloodbath over at many networks, but CBS had the highest number of casualties, with five of the seven shows we're most heartbroken about leaving that network.

When Evil Season 4 premieres in May, fans will be hoping for a resolution to a whole host of questions raised at the end of Evil Season 3.
While some will be answered at the outset, more questions will arise to intrigue us throughout the show's run.
As all good things must come to an end, we know that this will be the last outing of this crazy, mind-bending show we've come to love.
Most seasons have contained ten episodes, so it will be a treat to have four bonus episodes, which Robert and Michelle King are touting as a mini-season to finish out the story.
But how will it end? And with the news that Netflix will soon begin airing various seasons, would Evil be well-served by being "saved" by the streamer?

Like a much-needed lift, Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 6 brings things right back to what makes the show so fun.
After the tonal shift with the last episode, Elsbeth brought back the perfect amount of camp by bringing in the murderous Dr. Vanessa Holmes, played by the always talented and scene-stealing Gina Gershon.
From New Amsterdam as Jeanie Bloom to Chucky as herself, the actress's flawless face has graced the small screen many times in recent years.
However, in true Elsbeth fashion, Gina Gershon has already been seen as the former first lady in The Good Fight Season 3 Episode 6, "The One with the Celebrity Divorce."
Stepping back into The Good Wife universe in killer shoes, viewers are treated to her portrayal of a cosmetic surgeon turned vengeful murderess.
Sometimes, the plot writes itself.

Another NCIS spinoff is coming to an end. CBS has canceled NCIS: Hawai’i after three seasons. The two-part series finale will air on April 29 and May 6. And given what series star Alex Tarrant (who plays Kai) previously told TV Insider, it sounds like fans are going to be left hanging. “There is definitely a special twist that comes in towards the end. It was a shock to me when I was reading the scripts, that’s for sure,” he said, adding that the finale “most definitely … ends on a cliffhanger.” NCIS: Hawai’i was the last current CBS show whose fate had yet to be decided. The network has renewed Tracker, The Neighborhood, NCIS, FBI (for three seasons), FBI: Most Wanted, FBI: International, Ghosts, Fire Country, NCIS: Sydney, S.W.A.T. (after it was previously supposed to be ending with the current seventh season), Elsbeth, and The Equalizer for the 2024-2025 season.

It came down to the wire, but NCIS: Hawai’i ultimately didn’t make the cut for next season at CBS. The news comes days before the network is set to announce its fall schedule on May 2 and before the Season 3 finale of Hawai’i is scheduled to air on May 6. According to sources, the episode was not meant to be a series finale and includes a tease for what was to come but fans won’t be left reeling by a major cliffhanger.
The cancellation is not a complete shocker since, as Deadline has been reporting, NCIS: Hawai’i was on the bubble. Still, the outcome is surprising since an effort was made to extend the well performing drama’s run for at least an abbreviated fourth and final season, with producers agreeing to a massive budget cut and open to other concessions in order to keep the show going.

A police procedural comedy drama, Elsbeth follows an eccentric attorney whose shrewd observations come in handy when she needs to deal with New York’s criminal world — and it looks like she will get some help from Hollywood’s famous comedians.
The one-minute-long brand new trailer opens with the scene where Elsbeth introduces herself to a couple with the woman describing Elsbeth as “that odd woman that works with the police'', also calling her funny.
The main character then proceeds to interact with Keegan-Michael Key explaining to him that she used to be a lawyer back in the day, but then found her vocation in solving murder cases — both characters later appear to...

“The Equalizer” has been renewed for Season 5 at CBS, Variety has learned.
“’The Equalizer,’ led by the incomparable Queen Latifah, has all the best elements of a powerful drama,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “The series is stacked with suspense, heroism, high stakes and formidable characters our audience roots for. We look forward to another dynamic season.”
With the renewal, the only current CBS series awaiting word of its fate is “NCIS: Hawai’i.” The network has renewed much of its scripted lineup already, including recent pickups for “Elsbeth” and the “FBI” franchise. CBS recently announced it was canceling both “So Help Me Todd” and “CSI: Vegas,” while shows like “Bob Hearts Abishola,” “Blue Bloods” and “Young Sheldon” are coming to an end.
Per CBS, “The Equalizer” is currently averaging over 10 million viewers per episode in Live+35 multiplatform viewing. The show is based on the 1980s CBS series of the same name.

CBS has picked up a fifth season of drama The Equalizer, starring and executive produced by Queen Latifah, for 2024-25.
As Deadline reported last week, the renewal was fully expected, with the delay related to lead studio Universal Television negotiating a deal with Queen Latifah. It recently closed, paving the way to a renewal.
So far, The Equalizer‘s seasons had been capped at 18 episodes, which is something top talent often request when signing on for a broadcast drama series. There was an effort in the Queen Latifah negotiation to increase the number to 20 or more but I hear Season 5 will again consist of 18 episodes.
After Elsbeth renewed and So Help Me Todd and CSI: Vegas canceled last week, NCIS: Hawai’i remains the only CBS scripted series in limbo.

As Deadline reported last week, Hawai’i’s future is said to be the subject of tough business conversations, with a partial Season 4 of 13 or fewer episodes still a possibility. It could be a final chapter for the show, the first installment in the NCIS franchise with a female lead.
The Equalizer has been a strong performer for CBS, currently ranking as the #8 most watched among all non-sports broadcast programs, averaging 7.89M linear viewers (in Nielsen most current data) and over 10 million viewers in Live+35 multi-platform viewership. It also is the #1 entertainment program among African Americans.

Co-produced by CBS Studios, The Equalizer is one of four drama series Universal Television, part of Universal Studio Group, makes for CBS, along with the three FBIs, all of which were also recently renewed, the flagship for three seasons.
A reimagining of the classic series, The Equalizer stars Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall, an enigmatic woman with a mysterious background who uses her extensive skills as a former CIA operative to help those with nowhere else to turn.
Lorraine Toussaint, Tory Kittles, Adam Goldberg, Liza Lapira and Laya DeLeon Hayes also star. Andrew Marlowe, Terri Edda Miller, co-showrunners Joseph C. Wilson and Adam Glass, Dana Owens (Queen Latifah), John Davis, John Fox, Debra Martin Chase, Richard Lindheim (co-creator of the original series), Shakim Compere, Joseph C. Wilson and Loretha Jones are executive producers. The Equalizer airs on CBS and is available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount+.
