First off forget the raving lunatic who wrote the earlier review. What a weirdo. Anywho from the episode the abuse didn't start one day. First it was about control about how the house should look then it was vocal shouting and then it proceeded to physical and then to the sexual assault of the daughter. It is really hard for me to empathise with the mother because she could have walked away earlier but given this was her second husband she probably was the type of woman who felt that she needed a man/ husband, a provider, a man of the house even at the detriment of her own children. Nothing will ever justify her offering her eldest to her husband, nothing.
As a parent she really failed in the worst possible way, better her daughter suffering to keep the peace than her walking away earlier. I know the kids want us to empathise with her but I can't because she walked away a little too late . It is shocking that the boy did more for his sister by staying up so that the father wouldn't call for his sister at night than the mother who took her own daughter to her husband's bed so that her husband could have his way with her like an episode of the handmaid tale. The mother also had the daughter leave the city in order for her to get a job first so that the whole family could join her. In hindsight that ended up being a good thing cuz she survived but again it was so that they could use her as a financial source. She often used her eldest as a crutch and to take some of the blows that no kid should ever have to. Why did it have to be Jessica's burden. I am sure they miss her but I would not put it pass this women that had she gotten a 3rd man she would not have offered her second daughter on the platter to her newest man like she did with the first. How awful.
