Surprisingly good...
paul_haakonsen19 August 2023
Right, well of course I had not heard about this 2023 Vietnamese drama titled "Nha Ba Nu" (aka "The House of No Man") prior to getting a chance to sit down and watch it. And given my love and fascination with the Asian cinema, of course I opted to watch it without knowing anything about it. And on that account, then writer Hoang Ngoc Huyen Tran and director Tran Thanh had every chance to impress and entertain me.

While "Nha Ba Nu" started out as a fairly straightforward, if not actually somewhat generic, drama, then I will say that writer Hoang Ngoc Huyen Tran definitely managed to churn out something that was wholesome and entertaining. The storyline really steps up in intensity and entertainment value after about halfway through. "Nha Ba Nu" is a very enjoyable drama about several generations of the same family living together, running a business together and the problems that they individually struggle with.

I will say that I was genuinely entertained by director Tran Thanh's 2023 movie, because the storyline really offered a narrative that was easily delved into and you quickly and easily form attachments to the characters and their individual struggles. And writer Hoang Ngoc Huyen Tran really was good at setting the stage and building up the layers of the storyline, while letting the audience ride along with some great character development throughout the 102 minutes that the movie ran for.

Needless to say that I was not familiar with the cast ensemble in "Nha Ba Nu", but they had a great ensemble of actresses and actors for the various characters. It was good performances from the entire cast, and they brought their characters to life on the screen in enjoyable manners.

If you enjoy drama movies, then "Nha Ba Nu" is certainly a movie that is quite well-worth spending 102 minutes on watching. I was genuinely surprised with how writer Hoang Ngoc Huyen Tran managed to take the movie in a whole new direction after halfway through; and it was definitely for the better.

My rating of "Nha Ba Nu" lands on a six out of ten stars.

suck movie
jisoo_kim26 January 2023
This movie is terrible. It follow the motif of same type genres of tran thanh' movies. To be honest, this movie shouldn't to be shown on the cinema. It should be on Youtube at all. Waste of time and money.

A plus point for the crew when actively exploring strange shots, actively changing the angle of rotation. The color of the film is also bright, bringing the warm atmosphere of Tet.

But the dramatization factor again caused the film to lose points in the third act. As a habit, Tran Thanh is "passionate" in pushing his emotions to the extreme, "taking tears for sympathy from the audience". Not to mention, the point of removing the button in the second act was not "done", leading to the climax of the third act a bit rushed.

This is a movie with a great message

i have never rated a movie, but i want this movie to be more popular, it is underrated than it really is

people say the movie is too 'noisy', but that's the reality People say the character is 'stupid', but in reality we are all stupid and the climax of the conflict is the result of small mistakes.

Aren't we all like that? I feel the movie is not ridiculous at all, it is a fact that we deny.

The characters and content are very realistic, I seem to see the problem of the whole society there, it stems from small problems in the family.

I laughed and cried a lot

I really hope everyone should go see this movie and have a different perspective on life.

Toxic positivity

Warning: Spoilers
In the realm of Vietnamese entertainment, Tran Thanh stands out as a prominent figure. However, a closer look at his roles and public persona reveals a troubling aspect-his influence, consciously or not, contributes to harmful ideologies, especially among the younger audience.

Tran Thanh's portrayal of characters and his real-life persona both seem to exude a lifestyle and mindset that can be detrimental to the impressionable minds of the youth. The characters he embodies often showcase a set of values and behaviors that, rather than promoting positive ideals, tend to propagate negative habits and ideologies. This influence, whether intentional or unintentional, raises concerns about the impact it may have on the moral compass of the younger generation.

Furthermore, the themes explored in his films often carry a message that can be interpreted as a misguided philosophy of life. This synthetic outlook can potentially mislead and confuse the youth, leading them down a path of questionable ethics and values. It's essential to recognize the power that public figures, especially those in the entertainment industry, hold over shaping societal norms and attitudes.

Tran Thanh's contributions to the film industry, while entertaining, should prompt a critical examination of the messages conveyed. It becomes imperative for both the audience and industry insiders to be vigilant about the potential repercussions of promoting a lifestyle that may be perceived as cool but harbors harmful consequences for the youth.

In conclusion, Tran Thanh's influence on the younger generation, though not necessarily deliberate, raises important questions about the responsibility that comes with fame. As consumers of media, it is crucial to approach his work with a discerning eye and encourage a narrative that fosters positive values rather than perpetuating ideologies that may prove detrimental to the well-being of the youth.

This is a very good movie for me.
nhuyuki-4302930 January 2023
I cried 3 times while watching because I sympathize with the characters in the movie. A heartwarming movie about family, parent-child relationship, young love and many meaningful messages.

I like this quote the most in the movie "Everyone is at fault but everyone thinks they are the victim", it reflects the common psychology of many people in today's society. It is also the cause of the rift of many families and many relationships in life.

After watching the movie, I'm sure people will love each other more, put themselves in the other's place to better understand and sympathize with each other. I believe so.

Worth watching. Deep messages.

Not bad at all. I'd say yes there could be more space for improvement. However the messages from the movie is more than just to take tears from audience. If you take time to think about life of each character, it carries a lot of lessons. I love the movie in general.

There are some funny parts in the movie too. A lot of people think this is just to take tears away and talking about simple family problems. However, isn't live just that simple, but also complicated? Why giving time to watch aliens, superheroes but not movies about our real society?

The acting could be better so more people will get the messages. However they all at least did an average, and some did a very good job. I'd say 8/10, and bc I am from Vietnam + I love Vietnam so I am a little bias to give a 10/10.

A "healing" movie from Tran Thanh
phanhanhmoon30 January 2023
This movie made I cry a lot. Dialogue of the film is very realistic, the characters are built to resemble real life. I think every character in Nha Ba Nu has a story that everyone has experienced in their life.

My favorite character is Phu Nhuan & Ngoc Nhi. Tran Thanh acted very deeply, bringing many emotions to the viewers.

So respect Tran Thanh on his first time become a director. The film's music is very good and all of them are hits of Vietnam in 2022. The color of the film is bright & warm, suitable to watch Tet Holiday with family.

I believe after watching the movie, everyone will know how to love and appreciate their family more.

Haters gonna hate but this is a deserving movie to watch
ethniccuisine2 February 2023
We have enough mind-twisted time travel stories with impossible technologies. We need something down to earth and sincere. Yes, family and relationship are a common topics in Vietnamese movies and years after years, directors have been exploited it. But this topic will never get old. The movie aint trying to create anything too big or dramatic angles to grab attentions. It goes back to the most basic and natural but real story.

We all have come across or even once have been of the characters in the movie. We can all relate to what those characters were going through. That's what makes it so basic but so good.

People complain that the movie contains so much foul languages and always too noisy. But hey, that's legit how it is in District 5 in Saigon. The movie is trying to bring you the realest experience.

Anyway i like it. Relatable, real, funny and touching at the same time.

Solid 8! A movie for people who have been through family trauma
vmyzgh15 February 2023
Everyone has family issues of some sort, and it's especially true with Asian/Vietnamese kids. This movie was able to grasp certain aspects of trauma and the healing afterward wirh the help of good cinematography and sound design. The acting overall was better than most Vietnamese movies in recent years especially the girl and the mother. Some dialogues from the brother-in-law and the girl are still a bit forced but they are at least have good meaning and lessons to it. Some might find it too much.

The movie can be described as an emotional ride with some silly comedic moments that are mostly well executed. It's enjoyable and will be very powerful for people that has been through the same situation.

The sound design and visual effect are done very well to help the viewer laugh and also make flashback scenes better. There is no laziness to be found in the writing, directing and editing of the movie which is pretty rare in the Vietnamese movie market.

Overall this is a family movie that can be enjoyed by everyone. If you expect an action movie with logical actions, you won't have it here. The movie is to be enjoyed and to be reflected depending on each one's experience in life. A rare and well-done movie that can be watched mutilple times.

GOOD MOVIE
hongphuongphan18 May 2023
Good movie!

The story is very natural, very real and speaks to a social reality, especially in Vietnam.

Great actors !!! New and young but talent.

This movie makes me smile, cry and learn somethings.. Made me also have to look at myself, my husband and wife relationship, my family.

I suddenly realized that I also needed to change some perspective and attitude to life.

Need to be less strict with the opposite person, respect them more. Don't just always see yourself as a victim, the problem is always multifaceted.

Practice being objective and respectful to all.

I don't like Tran Thanh much, but i really love this film.
