This might quite possibly be one of the best first episodes I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Not only do I think that the way this show tackles the unhealthy work culture in Japan is absolutely brilliant through a bizarre and yet very clever concept, but I also thought this first episode was flawless from a technical standpoint. Direction and art direction are both aspects in anime that in my eyes have a reputation for not being utulized to its fullest. I feel like most anime coming out these days (but also a lot of anime back in the day) suffer from a rather bland take towards directing/art directing, which makes anime like Zom 100 stand out from the rest of the pack. The clever directing, shot composition and the way scenes flowed into one another through smart transitions is something that this first episode of Zom 100 did like few other anime I've ever seen. The creative art directing was also evident with the juxtaposition between the muted/faded colours and extremely vibrant colours, which was showcased to display the mental state of our protagonist. You can really see the abundance of passion and brilliance on display in these aspects, but it's not limited to that either. I also think the animation was perfect, characters looked extremely expressive and both the action packed and more chill scenes looked extremely smooth. All in all, I'm very happy to see such a vibrant display of passion for once, we don't get that much unfortunately.
I understand if you ain't reading allat, but do me a favour and watch this first episode if you haven't already!
