The Performance | Honestly, this honor is long overdue. Newton’s performance as robot brothel madam Maeve on HBO’s sci-fi fantasy series has been a revelation each week, as Maeve pulls herself out of her carefully prescribed narrative “loop” and slowly becomes more self-aware. This week, though, Newton took the role to a haunting new level.
Newton imbued Maeve with a spark of intelligence as she tested her newfound boundaries in the saloon, along with those of fellow hooker Clementine’s. She was stricken with a visceral...

Before Ellen DeGeneres was winning Emmys for The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the TV personality says she hit “rock bottom” and was broke.
After she revealed that she was gay to fellow talk show host Oprah Winfrey on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 1997, her ’90s sitcom Ellen was canceled a year later and said she became a national lightning rod.
“I was the punch line of lots of jokes,” DeGeneres, 58, told Out Magazine. “I laughed at some, but I realized there’s somebody on the other side of them. It’s cruel. I’ve never liked mean comedy, but that became...

Ellen DeGeneres' good-natured brand of comedy has made her a fixture of daytime television.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show host and Finding Dory star has been named Out magazine's Entertainer of the year, and is one of the cover stars of the publication's 2016 OUT100 issue, where she candidly discusses how hearing jokes at her expense when she came out as gay in 1998 affected her approach to comedy.

Back in January 2016, First Girl I Loved won the Best Of Next Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival; nine months later, it has been scooped up by Fullscreen. The self-proclaimed “youth media company” has picked up Kerem Sanga’s teen drama and will give it a theatrical release.
First Girl I Loved tells the story of a lesbian high school romance between an outsider (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s Dylan Gelula) and a popular girl (Deadpool’s Brianna Hildebrand). Several Hollywood notables, including Tim Heidecker and Pamela Adlon, have supporting roles in the film. The It Gets Better project, which seeks to empower Lgbt youths is helping with the film’s promotion.
Fullscreen’s plan is to distribute First Girl I Loved in a limited number of U.S. theaters beginning on October 18th. In December, the film will arrive on the company’s recently-launched streaming video on-demand service, which is also called Fullscreen.

If you’re coming out and you want the world to know, the flashiest way to do it (short of a show tune soliloquy) is to make a movie. Or, more realistically, a web series.
National Coming Out Day is observed on October 11th, the anniversary of the second March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights, often referred to as “The Great March.” It is a celebration of what its founders called the most basic form of activism; standing up and being counted. On this day in 1991, “Bewitched” actor Dick Sargent came out on “The Geraldo Rivera Show.” This year, Kristen Stewart, Aubrey Plaza, Lilly Wachowski, Robin Lord Taylor and Holland Taylor all came out as some iteration of Lgbtq.

Tony Jaa's dance card is steadily filling up. Having been recently attached to the Chinese version of The Expendables called Makeshift Squad yesterday we found out he is joining another project. News from our friends over at Film Combat Syndicate is that Jaa will star in a new thriller called Fate. It gets better. The film will be directed by Wilson Yip (Spl, Flash Point, Ip Man), a director whom I feel guided China/Hk through the dark times of post golden era Hk cinema. On top of that the action will be choreographed by Sammo Hung. Details about the plot are being kept under wraps. Production is expected to begin next month. ...

Timing is everything.
Joe's entire arc just crashed and into Gordon's after a simple suggestion from Cameron. The way that all came together was brilliant.
But the best Donna could do to fix things with Cameron on Halt and Catch Fire Season 3 Episode 6 was a fantasy conversation while on 'shrooms. God. I love this show.
Cameron appeared to be at ease after marrying Tom, but using him like a security blanket probably wasn't the best idea. It's not something she really thought about until Joe pointed it out to her, but she wasn't happy.
A happily married person would be shouting it to the world, not hiding away their ring in their jeans pocket. Like everything else in her life, she wanted it to be a secret, something she could keep private and pull out when she needed it.
But like Tom said, he'd be joining her soon. She'd have...

As most couples will confess: Marriage changes everything. When Looking debuted two years ago on HBO, legal unions between people of the same sex were not the law of the land in the United States. That didn't stop the show's creator Michael Lannan and director Andrew Haigh (45 Years, Weekend), however, from kicking off their dramedy about three young men looking for love in San Francisco by having them attend the bachelor party of a couple preparing to tie the knot. Now, as the series officially came to an end with...

A hit musical TV show that used Jonathan Coulton’s work without permission turned out to be his path to getting his songwriting on BrainDead, the new series from the creators of The Good Wife. “This is the standard path for any musician. Anybody who wants to end up where I am making recap songs for a show should definitely start by covering a rap song from the ’90s,” Coulton deadpanned. “No, it’s this strange, circuitous path, and I would be lying if I said any of those steps made sense at the time.” In 2013, Glee covered Coulton’s acoustic cover of Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Baby Got Back” — original melody, his line “Johnny C’s in trouble” and all — without giving the indie artist any credit or payment. The hullabaloo that followed became the inspiration for a court case in The Good Wife episode “Goliath and David.” Coulton got...

While many of his peers have had failed marriages, Hugh Jackman is wrapping up his second decade of wedded bliss with his wife Deborra-Lee Furness.
The hunky “X-Men” star told the “Sunrise” morning show the secret to his marital success- “The most important one, is drummed into me every day. Happy wife, happy life. That’s the slogan. We’re about to celebrate our 20th anniversary.”
Jackman previously told “Ellen,” "It gets better and better, I can honestly say that. She's the greatest thing that ever happened to me. I'm kind of really grateful that I met her before anything kind of happened. Everything that's happened in my career and onscreen, offscreen, we've always done it together."...

Everyone has good days and bad days - even TV stars! People and Entertainment Weekly editorial director Jess Cagle put that to the test with the cast of Baby Daddy, asking stars Melissa Peterman, Tahj Mowry and Mimi Gianopulos to describe what their best and worst days entail. Peterman, 44, answered that a best day for her would start waking up next to George Clooney and telling him, "You don't have to drive me home. I'll just borrow a car!" It gets better from there - with the day continuing with nachos for breakfast, sweatpants and plenty of bad TV. As for her worst day?...

Sony’s annual Spring Fever event guarantees variety and excellence to the games on tap. Last year’s outing gave Helldivers, Titan Souls, Axiom Verge, and Hotline Miami 2 the limelight, but 2016’s showcase has retired the old moniker. To celebrate the first, and third-party developers working on several high-profile PlayStation 4 games, Sony rebranded the experience.
The new event name: Launch Party.
The PlayStation Store Launch Party will follow a familiar pattern, releasing one digital PS4 title each week until the campaign runs its course. Setting an example for the rest of the lineup, Salt and Sanctuary ushers in the six-week spectacle next Tuesday.
Ska Studios remained adamant that Salt and Sanctuary would be ready when it’s ready. Fans waited 17 months (who’s counting?) since the game’s announcement, so what’s another couple days? Players should expect “deep combat and rich RPG elements, all set in a cursed realm of forgotten cities,...

Sacha Baron Cohen and Mark Strong star in Grimsby. It might just be the most horrible and funny film of the year (at least so far...)
There’s a bit, late on in Grimsby, when Sacha Baron Cohen’s Nobby gets hold of a gun and finds it surprisingly easy to shoot people. “I understand why you love guns so much,” he tells his brother, Mark Strong’s Sebastian. “It completely detaches you from the guilt of your actions.” The bathos this creates is a good example of how in comedy a big laugh legitimises just about anything, here allowing you to forget quite happily that the main character is no longer a bungling chancer but an actual killer. I felt the same about the rest of it; the fact it made me laugh just about earned it a free pass for being, at times, scabrously horrible.
