The pop field at the Grammys is usually one of the most star-studded every year. This year some of the categories seem especially crowded, so let’s take a quick look at who the main contenders are.
For Best Pop Solo Performance, a lot of big names are in contention. The biggest commercially are two Brits who are also past category winners: Harry Styles’s “As It Was,” which has topped the Hot 100 for 13 weeks as of this writing, and Adele’s “Easy On Me,” which topped the chart for 10 weeks. They will likely be joined by another category winner with a number-one hit: Lizzo, whose “About Damn Time” is easily one of the most memorable moments in pop music this season. Finally, there’s Beyoncé, who will likely be nominated for her two-week number-one hit “Break My Soul.” If there was anything like a lock at the Grammys, it would probably be these four.

Chris Stapleton looks ahead to a brighter future in the new song “Starting Over,” the title track to his fourth studio album, due November 13th.
“Well, the road rolls out like a welcome mat/to a better place than the one we’re at,” he sings in the shuffling number, written with his frequent collaborator Mike Henderson. Though completed before everyday life was upended by the pandemic, “Starting Over” speaks to our moment of unrest and uncertainty: “This might not be an easy time/there’s rivers to cross and...

Ahead of the game’s launch on Nov. 13, Activision will host beta periods for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions of Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War. To be eligible to participate in the Cold War open beta before it opens to the public, players will need to pre-order the game. You can pre-order Cold War here.
Activision confirmed in a press release that open beta dates will be announced soon. The PlayStation version of the game’s story trailer revealed that the beta will be available on the PS4 “at least five days earlier than any other format.” We don’t know what content will be included in the open beta, but it’s safe to assume it’ll focus on the game’s multiplayer modes.

The same Call of Duty datamining operations that brought us information about Cold War‘s plot also revealed that some exciting new modes are coming to Call of Duty: Warzone.
According to the ModernWarzone Twitter account (an active Call of Duty dataminer), there are four special modes rumored to be added to Call of Duty: Warzone in the near future. They include: Pandemic/Outbreak, Armored Cargo/Truck Wars, Plunder: Fire Sale, Zombie Royale.
The only mode that the leak seems to offer any additional information about is “Zombie Royale.” The report indicates that any player who dies in this mode will become a zombie. The only way to turn yourself back into a human is to eat the heart of a “fallen” player. The team with the last human standing is the winner.

Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War is officially this year’s installment in the popular first-person shooter franchise. Revealed in a teaser in late August after days of teasing the game’s announcement, the sequel focus on the tensions between the United States and Russia during the height of the Cold War.
Yet, although the teaser did a good job of setting up the general themes and conflict of the new game, it still left plenty of questions to answer. How will the new game work in tandem with Modern Warfare‘s current Warzone battle royale mode? Or will Cold War get its own battle royale mode for players to obsess over?
Most important of all, since Treyarch and Raven Software are developing Cold War together, does this mean that the new Call of Duty game will have a Zombies mode?
At the moment, we don’t know, but...

It’s impossible to talk about Mortal Shell without comparing it to the seminal Dark Souls. Everything about this new indie title from indie developer Cold Symmetry, from the combat and storytelling to the level design and music, is heavily influenced by FromSoftware’s classic action RPG. In fact, you could easily mistake a screenshot of Mortal Shell for a new Dark Souls game. But while the resemblance is strong, Mortal Shell adds enough twists to FromSoftware’s formula to craft its own identity as a worthy entry in the burgeoning genre.
As in Dark Souls, Mortal Shell’s story is cryptically told through item descriptions and vague comments from NPCs. At the start of the game, you wake up in a pool of water as the Foundling, a gray husk that looks a lot like the creatures in Tool’s classic “Schism” music video. After learning the basics of combat,...

At the end of Wednesday’s two-hour episode of “The Masked Singer,” the Black Widow unmasked to reveal Emmy-nominated actress, singer and host Raven-Symone. After performing Cher‘s “Believe,” the Black Widow lost the audience vote against Butterfly, Flamingo, Leopard and Thingamajig and was forced to reveal her true identity in front of America. In her exit interview following the taping, Raven declared the entire experience to be “freeing” (watch above).

“I did this show because I love to sing,” Raven explained, “but I’ve always sung songs that didn’t always represent who I was as a person, or I didn’t feel comfortable enough in my own skin on stage to perform. So I thought, if I could put on a mask and a costume and be a whole different character, I could perform like I do in my personal mirror.

With “The Masked Singer” off the air for two weeks because of the World Series, Fox gave fans a double dose of this reality competition series on November 6. The second episode brought back the five acts who made the cut on October 16: the Black Widow, Butterfly, Flamingo, Leopard and Thingamajig. Of these, the absolute best singer is the Butterfly who nailed it with both her performances to date.
On the premiere, the Butterfly opened the show with a scorching version of the hit tune “Bang Bang” by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj. And in week four, she scored with a rollicking rendition of the Bon Jovi classic “Livin’ on a Prayer.” The Butterfly won over both the judges and the studio audience

“The Masked Singer” aired two episodes on November 6. The second of these featured the five singers who competed on the last show to air before the World Series break: the Black Widow, Butterfly, Flamingo, Leopard and Thingamajig. Among the standouts on that episode back on October 16 was the celebrity hidden inside the Black Widow costume. She strutted around the stage as she performed the Carrie Underwood hit “Before He Cheats.” The Black Widow had been equally good in week two when she covered the Whitney Houston classic “I Wanna Dance with Somebody.”

During Wednesday’s Masked Singer, host Nick Cannon gave a startlingly real description of what it’s like to take part in Fox’s loony reality singing competition, and it’s too apt not to share: Those who don’t get voted off as the weeks go by “keep wearing a sweat-drenched costume while lying to their friends and family.” Puts the show in a whole new light, no?

Part of the intoxicating allure that made “The Masked Singer” the No. 1 new show last season was that no one knew Wtf was going on or had it on their radar at all when it was filmed. Now that everyone knows what the show is, some of that excitement might be gone when Season 2 premieres next month, but Fox is not concerned.
“What’s remarkable about first-season shows is how much the producers are learning and building a show,” Fox CEO Charlie Collier said Wednesday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. “There are so many changes that come with Season 2 — all the performers know what the show is, so they’re raising their game. Literally, some are wearing heels, some are trying to throw the audience with their costumes. There is so much more to this show that to me makes it America’s favorite guessing game. I...

As Chilean filmmakers garner greater international acclaim, (such as Oscar winner Sebastián Lelio and nominee Pablo Larraín), up-and-comer Dominga Sotomayor is proof that the Chilean film boom shows no sign of stopping. The second feature film from the 33-year-old director, “Too Late to Die Young” (“Tarde Para Morir Joven”) has earned comparisons to the work of Lucrecia Martel and “Call Me by Your Name.” It also earned Sotomayor the coveted Best Direction Award from the Locarno Film Festival earlier this year, making her the first woman in the festival’s history to take home the Leopard for directing.
In the festival’s statement awarding the film, the jury wrote that Sotomayor “achieved something that most filmmakers struggle to gain throughout their career: an impressive balance between reality of storytelling and inner capture of psychologies and sensibilities.” In his B+ review of the film, IndieWire’s Eric Kohn called it “a stunning assemblage of small moments.

The Witch breakout star Anya Taylor-Joy, Dean-Charles Chapman (Game Of Thrones), Finn Cole (Peaky Blinders), and Ferdia Walsh-Peelo (Sing Street) have been tapped as the leads in Here Are The Young Men, a film adaptation based on Rob Doyle’s Irish novel of the same name. The pic is written and being directed by filmmaker Eoin C. Macken.
The film takes place in 2003 where, in one last summer of adolescence, an aimless teenager named Matthew (Chapman), is pulled into a world of nihilistic toxic masculinity by his charismatic friend Kearney (Cole). Matthew yearns after his childhood sweetheart Jen (Taylor-Joy), an independent girl on her own trajectory, whilst their precocious friend Rez (Walsh-Peelo), starts to succumb to paranoia.
Lola Petticrew and Conleth Hill are set to co-star in the feature, which begins shooting this month.
Producers are Tym Production’s Richard Bolger and Union Entertainment Group’s Noah Haeussner, with Edwina Casey co-producing.

“Sing Street” fans, worry no more: the breakout star of John Carney’s absolutely charming ’80s-set musical coming-of-age tale has finally locked up his first feature film role since busting loose in the 2016 feature. Irish actor Ferdia Walsh-Peelo has only lightly dabbled in on screen roles since the film was released — including a part in the series “Vikings” and a role in the TV movie “Dave Allen at Peace” — but he’s locked up a brand new starring role in an intriguing-sounding film.
Written and directed by Eoin C. Macken, “Here Are the Young Men” will also star “The Witch” breakout Anya Taylor-Joy, “Game of Thrones” star Dean-Charles Chapman, Finn Cole, Lola Petticrew, and Conleth Hill. It is set to start principal photography in later this month.

The best cinematic action of 2017 in three parts from the movies of SXSW.
It was heavier than I had anticipated. At the age of 16, if my memory serves me correctly, it was the first time I’d ever held a real gun. In the midwest, surrounded by a family full of avid hunters, this was a right of passage. At some point an uncle or two would want to show you the awesome power of a real firearm, both as appreciation for the weapon’s power and as a lesson in the seriousness of its deadly potential. The weight of the revolver in my hand brought both of these concepts to life with immediacy. It’s hard to hold a real gun and not be in awe and at least a little terrified. It’s a feeling I’ll never shake, perhaps one of those moments in which a teenager’s journey toward adulthood was accelerated a...

Ladies and gentlemen, meet the new Shia Labeouf! Ok, not exactly, but Michael Bay has confirmed on his blog that young actor Jack Reynor has been cast to act opposite Mark Wahlberg in the upcoming Transformers 4. .He is an Irish kid that came to America with 30 bucks in his pocket,. Richard isn.t the only credit on Reynor.s resume. He also has starred in Kirsten Sheridan.s Dollhouse and Eoin Macken.s Cold, which is in post-production. He has a part in Vince Vaughn.s The Delivery Man, which currently is filming in New York City. And he.ll move from there to the fourth Transformers, which Bay should begin filming later this year.
