Jose here. As a non-American, Thanksgiving has always been my favorite Us holiday because it's the time of the year when it's socially acceptable for people to put marshmallows and cranberries on everything. A practice which I refuse to stop during the other 364 days of the year, but which for 24 hours helps me bond with the people I love, as I argue about why movies with subtitles are as nourishing as turkey and gravy.

Dennis Farina- the actor known for roles in Law & Order, Snatch, Get Shorty and Midnight Run has died. NBC News reports that the cause of death was a blood clot in his lung. The actor was 69. A former police officer, Farina first broke into Hollywood as a police consultant on Michael Mann’s 1981 film Thief. From there Mann cast him as Lt. Mike Torello on the series Crime Story and mobster Albert Lombard on Miami Vice. His fate was sealed: from then on, Farina had a long, successful career as either the cop or the crook. In either case he performed with gusto; equal parts smarm and charm, and always with a thick Chicago accent and equally thick mustache. He appeared in two films that have yet to be released- Authors Anonymous and Lucky Stiff. Farina is survived by longtime partner Marianne Cahill, three children and six grandchildren. "We are deeply saddened by the loss of a great actor and a wonderful man," De Waal said in a statement. "Dennis Farina was always warm-hearted and professional, with a great sense of humor and passion for his profession."

Actor Dennis Farina compiled over 70 film and television credits in his lengthy career, playing a variety of tough guy roles in films like "Midnight Run," "Get Shorty" and "Saving Private Ryan." Farina died on Monday at the age of 69.
"I realize that no one is going to come to me and ask me to be Julius Caesar or a romantic lead, but I think I'm a certain type of guy who looks a certain way and that's just the reality of things," Farina told Moviefone in 2011.
Born in Chicago, Farina didn't start acting at a young age. He was actually a Chicago police officer for 18 years, and was hired by Michael Mann to consult on the 1981 film "Thief." Mann gave Farina a small role in the film, kicking off a career that spanned three decades. Farina would work with Mann again a number of times, including on the film "Manhunter...

J. Todd Harris is a film producer living in Los Angeles. His credits include “Bottle Shock,” “The Kids Are All Right,” “The Family Tree” and “Miss Nobody” — all shot in California. I just wrapped an independent movie here in Los Angeles, a musical called “Lucky Stiff” from “Jeffrey” director Christopher Ashley. It’s a pretty expensive movie by indie standards, but the experience was a joy because everything we needed was here, with the best film professionals in the world available and eager to work. Eager? Nay, thankful. If there was one overriding sentiment expressed during our just-over-five-week shoot, it was how grateful everyone on the crew was to have a movie shooting at home in Los Angeles. Like so many productions these days, it would have been incredibly easy for us not to. There were many reasons we chose Los Angeles, despite the fact that other states have a more accessible and.
