Four seasons. That would be like chewing on bubble gum that lost its flavor two days ago. That's what I thought as I saw the basic plot-line unfolding. Its the kind of story that depends on deceit, subterfuge, lies, secret identity, and once that is out, no way could the show sustain any element of intrigue. Okay, so the secret identity is safe after Season One. But as I've noted in previous reviews, the Graysons aren't fools, yet the script has them overlooking very, very obvious clues. Victoria Grayson should surely have realized this Emily is Amanda Clarke?
Okay, that's only my opinion.
As episode starts listing the actors, I doubled back... Surely it cannot be? Madeleine Stowe isn't listed! What the hey? Has Madeleine dropped out from the cast... because as I've also said, no sane scriptwriter would write Victoria Grayson from the story.
Clever! Hiding her name at the end!
But sadly, Madeleine doesn't bring to the table what she brought to Season One. Gone is the cool veneer, this Victoria Grayson raises wolves for circus side-shows it seems. Okay, it's scripted this way, but please, leopards, no black panthers, like Victoria wouldn't lose their markings ever, she'd still be that haughty woman even if she lived in some shack in the woods. Again, my opinion.
Overall, though, compared to what has gone before, this is a much more drab offering.
And that's not just my opinion. Others here on IMDb agree that Season One was the good one, the rest was just, blah! I wouldn't know yet, I am a DVD watcher.
Hey, cease! desist! on the darned Japanese karate masters! Argh! What is this Japanese fetish? They simply do not fit in with the Hamptons theme.
I maintain that REVENGE should have been a 22 episode one-off TV show, one season only, the whole out-'em-as-the-crooks-they-are saga. A one-season non-renewable classic drama. People, chew on your bubble-gum, spit it out and then go find a new flavor, don't dwell and dwell on the same thing!
