The film is based on an 'Ek-ankika' (one act play) named 'BP'. Written by the writers of the film Ambar Hadap and Ganesh Pandit.
The film was to be called BP. But it might be mistaken by many as an adult film. The title Balak Palak was suggested by the Chief Asst. Director (Shivkumar Parthasarathy) of the film. He had made an illustration of a father and son and had mentioned Balak Palak (Child and Parent) in it. The director liked the idea and he decided to use the name Balak Palak for the film.
Amruta Khanvilkar rejected the film due to bold content was replaced by Sai Tamhankar.
