Choi Min-sik, the veteran Korean actor who previously starred in “Oldboy” and Korea’s all-time box office record breaker “Roaring Currents,” heads the cast of upcoming mystery-thriller film “Exhuma.” The title, which will debut in Korean theaters in February, also released its first-look images and an atmospheric trailer.
Choi appears as an exorcist who unleashes unexpected supernatural forces.

Jung Ji-woo is known for directing melodramas that are different than your average melodrama. His last two films, however, have been the excellent mystery/courtroom drama “Heart Blackened” and the swimming drama “4th Place”. He returns back to the romance and melodrama this year with his latest “Tune In for Love” (previously called “Yoo-Yeol’s Music Album).
Synopsis

Ma Dong-seok’s carved quite a niche for himself in the South Korean film industry. Some people were understandably concerned that he was getting type-cast in certain type of roles, with most of his roles from last year feeling like an extension of his part in 2017’s “The Outlaws“. While that is not necessarily a bad thing (One can never have too much of Don Lee showing the bad guys what’s what), the trailer for his first film of 2019, “The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil” looks refreshingly different while still being quintessentially Ma Dong-seok.
Synopsis
Jang Dong-soo is a gang boss in Cheonan. He becomes the target of serial killer Kang Kyung-ho. Jang Dong-Soo survives and he is the only person to have survived from an attack by Kang Kyung-ho. Detective Jung Tae-seok hates organized crime members, but he works with Jang Dong-soo to catch serial killer Kang Kyung-Ho.

Plucked from relative obscurity to play the title character in Jung Ji-woo's adaptation of Eungyo (A Muse), the controversial and popular Koren novel by Park Bum-shin, Kim Go-eun is no doubt now a star in her native country winning nearly a dozen accolades for her role as the 17-year old muse of a 70 year old poet, including nods from the Bull Awards and the Korean Association of Film Critics. Kim sat down with Diva Velez this past week in New York to discuss her breakout role, her working relationship on set with Jung and what's next on her own creative horizon. [ed. Ben Umstead] Twitch: What has it been like for you to hear the NY audience's reaction to your work? Kim Go-eun: I was...

Jung Ji-woo, best known around these parts for his 1999 film Happy End, and as screenwriter for the 2010 thriller Moss, was in New York this past week for the screening of his latest film as director: Eungyo (A Muse). Diva Velez sat down with Jung to talk about his process adapting a controversial and popular piece of literature, turning 35-year old actor Park Hae-il into a 70-year national poet, plus working with newcomer Kim Go-eun -- the muse of the title. [ed. Ben Umstead] Twitch: What made you want to make a film of this novel? Jung Ji-woo: As a person, I felt that I was getting older. As I was reading the novel, it described really well about a man's feelings towards himself getting...

Jung Ji-woo's fourth feature Eungyo (aka A Muse) has as its basis the salacious premise of a relationship between a 70 year-old man and a 17 year-old girl, which for obvious reasons proved quite controversial upon its release last year in Korea. Also thrown into the mix is a love triangle, the third side of which is formed by the young man being mentored by this older father figure. Adapting his film from Park Bum-shin's (also very controversial) novel of the same name, Jung spins this into a visually beautiful exploration of sexual desire, aging, and artistic inspiration that is often compelling despite its narrative and tonal miscalculations. Eungyo's greatest attraction is the quietly stunning breakout performance by young actress Kim Go-eun, a first-timer making...
