Monarch : History of May
usmanrizwy22 December 2023
I am a huge gojira fan , the fact that apple tv+ was considering a godzilla series made me very happy , but this isn't it. The story completely fixates on kentaro , may and the other girl . Literally the entirety of episode 7 was just about may and her family , completely unecessary character in the series.

And where are the monsters!? , Its called the legacy of Monsters and yet we see an ion dragon for about 5 minutes and we see godzilla get nuked (which was honestly the only good part about the series) and godzilla waking up in the desert and just leaving lmao. We barely learn anything about monarch , we havent been shown any other monsters. FFS Godzilla KOTM had shown us more about the titans.

Just Disapointing.

No filler episodes.
Jim_E_Cornette23 December 2023
I did say in my overall review that we don't need to have Titans waltzing around every 5 minutes because we're gonna get plenty of that soon enough.

But once you reach a certain point in the narrative, then scaling back with underwhelming results, it's very disappointing.

Considering where the last episode ended, I definitely expected to see where that would lead. The last thing I wanted to see is an entire episode dedicated to boring family drama side plots - and that's what it really was despite the connection to Monarch & Apex.

The nature of limited tv series with only 8-10 episodes in the season means No. Filler. Episodes. Which is what this one felt like. I found myself skipping ahead far too often, because at this stage I couldn't care less about May's family or her background, or anyone else's for that matter.

We've had a gutsful of family boohoo from the Daddy-Issues duo already. It's time to advance the Titan plot.

Hardly any monsters
rawrawb29 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILERS:

There's a show that has Godzilla in it, every now and again, we want MONSTERS!

This episode fairs worst than most as we had a good look at Godzilla in episode 6, but where is he now, when a massive creature the size of the Khalifa goes walking in the desert you might expect people to notice and see that and then in the next episode of the show this to be mentioned and resolved... NOT HERE no sir no mentions, where did he go what did he do nadda, nowt, nothing... just a back story episode about one of the boring human characters.

Come on please Monarch do more MONSTER stuff it's good, you don't have to show the monsters all the time but at least have a story about what they are doing and let the people talk about it... in between the characters stuff... let the audience know what's going on! Come on!

Wow ! They made a whole episode on worst character....
vansharya-3533723 December 2023
Seventh episode of Monsterverse's most awaited series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is premereired and here's my thoughts on this episode i.e. "Will the Real May please stand up":-

Positives :-

1. Cinematography are very good.

2. Production budget looks very high, and you could feel it in visuals and cinematography.

Negatives:-

1. May's character is boring as hell. I mean no sense, no motivation, just dragging with the rest of the characters.

2. I'm not feeling any mystery or thrilling moments anymore in storyline, as of in starting episodes.

3. Writing and screenplay is just so bad.

4. I mean they made a whole episode on worst character of show.

5. This show started focusing on cringe things instead of Monarch.

6. This episode is somewhat boring.

Final Thoughts and Review :-

Overall, "Will the Real May please stand up" is a bad episode that is just dragging the show, that's it. We don't need this type of episode in a Monster show. This is the worst episode of entire show yet.

The show is going downhill
abirzenith23 December 2023
I am extremely confused at the downhill trend of the last few episodes of this show. Early on the show had a lot of potential, dialogues were fairly well written (for what it is) and decent production quality was provided.

Then things got worse at every step, this episode in particular is a prime example of forcing human backstories that have not been fleshed out and are extremely poorly written. No one cares about most of these characters, not even a little bit , because their progress and involvement into the stories feel incredibly immature and forced.

It is just a sad thing to watch because of how much potential this show had, at least we got the amazing Godzilla Minus movie and maybe Legendary will also step it up in the upcoming Godzilla X Kong Movie, but this one has officially failed to connect with fans of both silly and serious Godzilla styles.

Seriously ????
thechez200422 December 2023
I was looking forward to this series but it's just turning into a talk fest. There is virtually zero monsters. Prob two minutes or so in the last 3 episodes. There is little action it's just exploring the characters past lives for some reason.

What is wrong with these writers are they not allowed to show the stars like Godzilla or is the budget only 100 dollars. I found myself fast forwarding thru all the chat because I don't care about these people.

Hoping something happens in the last episodes or it will have been a total waste of my time.

This seems to be a familiar line in sci fi series where it is all talk similar to the Invasion series.

Please can someone make decent sci-fi series.

This show is HUMAN focused
xochxoch24 December 2023
It has been said many times, especially from the creators, that this show is more HUMAN focused. Not MONSTER focused. And the people complaining about there not being enough monsters seem to not realize that somehow... with this many episodes in... So the monsters are not seen as often as which makes this interesting in my opinion because it seems so raw to actually see how the monsters changed these characters once normal lives. We also learn a lot about how Monarch came to be. Basically, if you want to see godzilla and other monsters then just watch the damn movies. Overall, I just believe people are being too harsh on a show caring about actual characters and their stories.

Come on already....
joeyjupiter4324 December 2023
I like a slow burn. I enjoy a good story. I'm willing to invest in character development and plot details.... but COME ON ALREADY.... seriously.., I have an idea... how about a Titan just straight up EATS MAY?!?!! At least her existence would have served all of her screen time...

It's one step from completely unwatchable at this point .... so much potential and this is what is delivered?

The opening scene of the series provided so much more excitement and entertainment than the first 7 episodes combined (minus said opening scene).

What makes it even more unsatisfying is that we have to wait a full week only to be left more disappointed and flat out bored than the week before.

Unfortunate...

Borefest
andre-sandberg25 December 2023
First few episodes were promising, but now it's just getting ridiculous. I find myself continuously fast-forwarding, because I simply do not care any more.

The characters are weak, and no matter how they keep pushing their backstories, we do not care. In addition, coupled with the tempo slowing down significantly, this show just seems doomed.

There is this one shot, in which they film them arriving to a house, getting out of the car, walking into the house, talking for 5 minutes in the house, walking out of the house, and then driving away. Like come on.

Whether being written by AI or real people, I find this show unwatchable.

Dull dull dull, talk talk talk
xonker23 December 2023
This show was supposed to be about the Titans. Where the hell are the monsters?? Instead it's a continual stream of boring drama and endless talking.

They got Kurt Russell and played up the monster angle and then totally failed to deliver. If very lucky we get one or two scenes with a few glimpses of a Titan and then more dialog.

Really bummed. I have enjoyed other Apple TV productions quite a lot. I'm really surprised that they put this snoozefest on the air.

Most of the plot is just filler. The characters aren't compelling. They should've taken a page from Pacific Rim and made it wall to wall monster fights.

The Show has gotten so bad, no when even reviews
rickdeez23 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I can't blame them. After E6 takes us back to the 1940's cast (thank you!) and shows a little Godzilla action, E7 takes us back to, the intolerable, Kentaro, Cate, and Coral or Conan or whatever her name is - I don't think anyone cares at this point.

Grab a barf bag for this one because if you thought E5 was bad (and it was atrocious) this one is almost worst. It back to "daddy, daddy" and switches to "I don't care about finding daddy anymore" and then "I hate you, I love you, I betrayed you, screw you....but, it's ok, we can be friends again.

The most ridiculous is Conan's boss saying "wait until we can find out how Godzilla walks." Like Godzilla, who can survive atomic bombs, is going to be captured by some tech company to be studied.

What the actual heck is happening with this show?

My gosh this show is bad.
joeliopolio2 January 2024
Where do I even begin?

I'm trying my really hard to like this show but there just isn't much to like. In The first few episodes the flash back scenes were promising. The stuff with the kids is just plan stupid. The dialogue is bad, the characters are not compelling, just very poorly written drama filled teens. I thought this was going to be a Godzilla show or at least a show about monsters as advertised, I was wrong. This is the first review I've ever written about a show and it is simply because this show is terrible. There are very few good things to talk about with this show. I find my self constantly rolling my eyes and the "twists" are so predictable. So sad. I'll stick with what TOHO is doing. Screw whatever this is.

Getting worse
thales-6304527 December 2023
I've asked before but were the writers on strike when this was conceived? This episode was dire! Even worse than the rest snd that is saying something. The dialogue is puerile, infantile and at times just plain silly. Yet again it's another episode of coincidences. Coincidences that portray lazy writing. Characters who act tough but this only works in series with lazy writing such as this. It's another episode where you can skip chunks( go to toilet, make a cup of tea etc) and miss nothing. Honestly. It's dire. Makes me wonder if any technical advisors were employed. I think not. Or if they did the don't live in the real world. Okay it's a fantasy series (not sci-fi) but there has to be a grounding in reality ti make it work. If not just throw in some magic wands and sorcerers to explain it all away.

CW Writing at its Best
cyberperro22 December 2023
So it's been glaringly obvious as these episodes have progressed that the writers decided to Kentaro as a weak cuck. The nerve to have Mae, his estranged girlfriend (or whatever), making a moving on his step-sister, who is no angel herself as she's been initiating herself, just seems like this weird throuple that nobody asked for in a monster movie. This show has def ran off the rails, as it feels like Gen Z wrote this crap in a nod to polyamorous relationships. They had one job today do...write a good sci-if show, and instead we got Melrose Place with the occasional guest star-Godzilla. Luckily a few of these episodes are actually pretty good-when the main characters are running for their lives.

this show is BORING HUMAN focused
nerrdrage3 January 2024
Okay I get it. The CGI for the cool monsters is expensive and they have to fill a lot of time with the humans doing human things. Well if that was the plan, then they should have put a lot more effort into coming up with a cast of interesting characters.

They have Lee Shaw, old and young. They have that Bill guy in the past. That's just about it for the good characters.

They have Hiroshi Randa, who barely has appeared. They have his annoying, petulant children and the children's even more annoying friend.

Just kill off most of the characters in the season finale and start over from scratch. There's nothing special about most of these people. Build up a new and better cast for next season, assuming there will be one.

An interesting premise can only take you so far.
kowntzyr28 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Approaching the end of the first season, the weight of this series has shifted from more interesting plot lines, characters and actors with more ability to a trio of moping, whining, complaining children with little to offer other than attitude and box checks.

At this point, it appears they are making arguably the most interesting character in the series the villain without bothering to flesh out his story. The ominous presence of a secretive government organization has dropped the curtain on the advice of a low ranking researcher and has suddenly turned benevolent. We still know little about the rarely seen Titans and the mystique has just about worn off.

So many shows seem to hire good writing to kick things off and then turn it over to those with clearly less ability. This is certainly the case, here. Rarely seen actors in flashbacks shouldn't clearly outshine those you've made the focus of your ongoing story. If you're going to focus on the human aspect of a titan savaged world, don't waste your best actor as a cliche villain.

From what I've seen of Apple's productions, they have a lot of money but they also have a lot to learn.

Will the real May please jump off of a cliff!
adj-jarvis20 January 2024
I'm going to keep this short and sweet. NOBODY CARES ABOUT MAY! Another mundane episode filled with nonsense that we don't care about. She's a useless, dry character played by an actress that matches that description!

This episode is cheesy and so far from what the show should actually be about. Bland acting and Bland characters. I mean, this new character (May's old boss) has just entered. She's playing the most cliche "bad boss" I've ever seen. She just took a sip out of a glass and didn't drink a drop. CHEESE!

Kurt Russel, his son and of course, Godzilla (absent as he is in 90% of this series) are the only things that can keep this show together and you aren't utilising them!!!!

I get it, they wanted to show some character development (which doesn't usually happen with these epic Sci fi franchises), but you've made these kids unbearable to watch.

More monsters, more Kurt and more Wyatt!

PLEASE FIX THIS FOR SEASON TWO!

Hopefully it picks up again.
matthewthorpe-3826525 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 6 was a good bounce back from the obnoxious filler episode 5, but episode 7 drops that momentum after the father woke Godzilla up, it was a cool scene having Godzilla focus in on Kate and the group but just felt like Kate's character was rewritten, for someone who had PTSD from such terrible events all it took was 1 time for the creature to notice here and she was perfectly fine and the walk through the desert Kate just seemed so relaxed and carefree just by seeing her dad and being noticed by Godzilla, then the episode focuses more on the May character who just comes off as a stubborn child until the end when her punishment got swept under the rug and for some reason the writers thought it was a good idea that after all the sleeping around they had Kate do with her past relationships, she's now moving in on May who her half brother has already slept with. Just overall want the focus to shift back more towards the monsters and investigations and what not, there's a reason episode 5 and 7 are the worse rated.
