Action comedy The Fall Guy starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt heads the new titles at this weekend’s UK-Ireland box office, opening in 702 cinemas through Universal.
Directed by David Leith, The Fall Guy is written by Drew Pearce and loosely based on a 1980s TV series of the same name about stunt performers.
Gosling plays a stuntman working on his ex-girlfriend’s directorial debut action film, where he becomes involved in a conspiracy surrounding the lead actor.
The Fall Guy debuted at SXSW on March 12; it is Gosling’s first credit as producer since his 2014 directorial debut Lost River.

Eva Mendes is known for her insanely good looks and has often been considered one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. The Hitch star is known for her roles in films such as Ghost Rider, We Own The Night, and The Place Beyond the Pines, the latter of which was where she met her future partner Ryan Gosling.
While it has been a while since she has starred in any film, Eva Mendes was the subject of a tabloid rumor back in 2007. The actress was reportedly rumored to be pregnant after being seen by paparazzi with a ‘bump’. However, the actress denied the claim back then and Evan promoted body positivity by speaking about how putting on a little bit of weight was not that big of a deal.

Ryan Gosling has been killing it on the career front with his performance in last year’s Barbie garnering much praise, including an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He won hearts at the Oscars this year with his rendition of the Oscar-nominated song ‘I’m Just Ken’, with celebrities such as Emma Stone and Margot Robbie joining in on the fun.
However, one person who was not present was Gosling’s partner Eva Mendes. Though the actress was seen near Gosling’s dressing room, she was notably absent at the ceremony while the Barbie star was bringing down the roof with his performance. Now, an insider stated that the couple were headed for a breakup and that they had separate lives.

Four-time Oscar nominee and indie darling Saoirse Ronan revealed in a recent Harper’s Bazaar UK interview that she’s keen to star in a comedy soon, referencing Paul Feig’s “Bridesmaids” and the Larry David-created sitcoms “Seinfeld” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” as her favorite comedic projects.
“I would love to do something modern and funny,” Ronan said. “But to be able to do comedy well requires so much skill and musicality. I don’t necessarily think I have that yet — although as I’ve got older, I am more comfortable and confident to try.”
Ronan is best known for her dramatic roles, and has earned Academy Award nominations for “Atonement,” in which she plays the petulant and jealous younger sister to Keira Knightley; “Brooklyn,” which follows a young Irish immigrant navigating life in 1950s New York; “Lady Bird,” in which she stars as a headstrong teenager at odds with her mother; and finally,...

This post contains spoilers for "Fast X."
It is the beginning of the end for the Fast Saga as "Fast X" has hit theaters, serving as the first part in what will be a two-film finale to the long-running series. Though Vin Diesel has indicated that it could turn into a trilogy. In any event, Universal Pictures is beginning to wind things down with Dom Toretto and the gang. As expected, that means a lot of familiar faces from the past are going to reappear before all is said and done. But one wildly unexpected face did make a return, albeit in a very "blink and you'll miss it" sort of way. Depending on how things shake out, it does suggest a possible, more meaningful return in "Fast & Furious 11."

In order to play the role of Nebula, the murderous mostly-android character in James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy" movies, actress Karen Gillan had to undergo a lengthy and uncomfortable makeup process. According to makeup artist David White, Gillan's facial prosthesis was constructed of five specially fitted plates that would be glued to her over the course of about four and a half hours. She also had to wear incredibly thick contact lenses to black out her eyes and, to accommodate the cranial appliances, shave her head. Gillan shaved and remained bald throughout the shooting schedules of each of her Marvel Cinematic Universe appearances.
This meant that she was without hair throughout most of 2013, when the first "Guardians" movie was being filmed. One can find photos of that film's premiere, and see that her hair was still growing out.

Eva Mendes is shutting down rumors that she “quit” Hollywood.
Mendes shared an Instagram video clapping back at claims she gave up on her film career. Her last film role was in partner Ryan Gosling’s 2014 directorial debut “Lost River,” and Mendes revealed the “dream project” was a “tough act to follow,” especially when she was only being offered “stereotypical roles.”
“I never quit acting,” Mendes wrote in the caption. “I wanted to be home with my babies and fortunately my other business ventures allowed me to do that more than acting would.”

Eva Mendes has floated a potential end to her near-decade long hiatus from acting. The actor has not starred in a feature film since a small supporting role in partner Ryan Gosling’s 2014’s directorial effort “Lost River,” although she lent her voice to a role on a 2021 episode of “Bluey” on ABC Kids. Mendes appeared on “The View” and said her potential return to acting would have specific requirements.
“I have such a short list of what I will do, with four kids,” Mendes said (via Entertainment Weekly). “I mean, if it was a fun project. But now I won’t do violence, I don’t want to do sexuality, the list is short.”
“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin asked Mendes if she would end her acting break if a “special project” came her way that met all of her requirements, to which the actor answered, “I hope so.

Even since big-name actors such as Robert Redford or Clint Eastwood took their shot at sitting in the director’s chair, numerous others have followed suit with varying degrees of success. For every film a la Ryan Gosling’s “Lost River” that most people would sooner or rather forget about (if they haven’t done so already), there’s a breakout smash such as Olivia Wilde’s “Booksmart.” The prospects seem rather exciting when you hear that a talented actor like Halle Berry will be making their debut with a “female-heavy” mixed martial arts film.

In the 10 years since the release of Nicolas Winding Refn’s “Drive,” the lives of two key figures behind its pivotal soundtrack, Johnny Jewel and Cliff Martinez, have changed for the better, thanks to the film.
“Before ‘Drive’ coming out, I was standing by the freeway with a cardboard sign that said, ‘Will score for food,’” jokes “Drive’s” composer, Martinez, a sometimes drummer in Red Hot Chili Peppers, and one of Steven Soderbergh’s go-to composers. “I wasn’t exactly struggling, but I would go for months without work. My popularity ebbs and flows, but for the most part, I’m much more popular than I was before 2011.”
“For those of us in the underground, ‘Drive’ was huge,” says Jewel, who has two key songs on the soundtrack — “Tick of the Clock,” with his former band, the Chromatics, and “Under Your Spell” with his other band, Desire.

Ryan Gosling is one of the best actors working today, and among the most selective. Although he gained popularity as a heartthrob in "The Notebook," Gosling proved fairly early on that he wasn't interested in cheesy Hollywood romances. Gosling delved deep into independent cinema and worked alongside some of the best emerging directors; many of his films are now considered modern classics.

The star’s first foray into film-making is a sweet, if flawed, attempt to recapture the spirit of 80s kids adventures buoyed by a charismatic turn from Lonnie Chavis
When an experienced actor steps behind the scenes to become a multi-hyphenate, one usually assumes their directorial debut will have a revealing, if often self-indulgent, autobiographical element. But as much as we might have learned about Greta Gerwig from Lady Bird or Viggo Mortensen from this year’s Falling, there’s arguably more to unpack when a star decides to go entirely off-piste to tell someone else’s story. Bradley Cooper’s crowd-pleasing remake of A Star is Born and Ben Affleck’s troubling, muscular adaptation of Gone Baby Gone showed them to be serious, ambitious film-makers with lofty aspirations whereas Ryan Gosling’s disastrous Cannes flop Lost River revealed him as someone who’s spent too much time pretentiously fanboying over Nicolas Winding-Refn.

That’s truly exciting, especially if you’re one of the few who saw Gosling’s writing and directing debut, Lost River. Read on for more… Variety has the exclusive, going so far as to say that the flick is closer in tone to a thriller, with a screenplay from Lauren Schuker Blum...

We're hair for this! We wouldn't be lying if we said Eva Mendes is one of the few Hollywood stars who has remained down-to-earth, despite her major celebrity status. Case in point: On Monday, the 45-year-old actress and fashion mogul took to Instagram to reveal that she enjoys getting her hair cut at the ultra-affordable establishment, Supercuts. No, your eyes aren't playing tricks on you—the Lost River actress is seriously a fan of the salon franchise! Most known for 2000’s American Psycho, director Mary Harron has eerily combined social commentary with gruesome, grotesque violence. With that in mind, the Manson Family and the shockingly random Tate-labianca murders of 1969 seem like a perfect centerpiece for her to examine.
And that’s exactly what her latest project, Charlie Says, does. Based specifically around the experiences of the three incarcerated women from the Family, the film dissects the pathetic, dehumanizing jargon Charles Manson (Doctor Who‘s Matt Smith) used to create killers out of innocent people.
Recently, I had the chance to speak with Mrs. Harron about her upcoming movie, as well as the casting and stylistic choices behind it. See what she had to say below, and enjoy!
As a director, what drew you into telling this story about Charles Manson? Or rather the women around him?

Ryan Gosling’s first attempt as a director, in 2014’s “Lost River,” didn’t necessarily go as planned. While the film did get a big premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, critics (including our own) weren’t high on Gosling’s directorial debut. But as the saying goes, “if at first, you don’t succeed, try, try again.” And for Gosling, it appears that fresh off a couple show-stopping acting performances, the Academy Award nominee is going to give that directing thing another shot.

The boys and their father are slumped in the back of a dying pickup truck. Minutes earlier, dad lost his job, in part because he brought the boys with him to his overnight security gig; the boss showed up, an altercation took place before the trio’s eyes, and now the truck is being towed. An eventful night, and as the father’s face makes clear, a rather devastating one. Losing the job is a crushing blow, one made all the more upsetting by happening in front of his children. He struggles to keep from crying as the boys look on, and the tow truck rumbles in the morning light. The youngest boy’s face responds to his father’s sadness, while the older two feed off of his anger. When dad slaps the side of the truck, all three follow suit. They bang and bang, the youngest shouting, “No more work!

Margot Robbie is about to get incredibly fearless in her latest acting-producing project “Terminal.” The noir thriller couldn’t be more different than her first producing gig “I, Tonya,” which ended up winning an Oscar for Allison Janney and earning Robbie her first Best Actress nomination. New footage from the movie has debuted, and it very much follows in the footsteps of hyper-realized Neo-noir films like “Drive” and “Lost River.”
The official synopsis from Rlje Films reads: “In the dark heart of a sprawling, anonymous city, ‘Terminal’ follows the twisting tales of two assassins carrying out a sinister mission, a teacher battling a fatal illness, an enigmatic janitor and a curious waitress leading a dangerous double life. Murderous consequences unravel in the dead.”
“Terminal” opens in select theaters May 11. Watch the gorgeous new footage in the trailer below.

Johnny Depp, Nicolas Cage, Drew Barrymore, even Marlon Brando. They all dabbled with movie directing - but only once...
Once upon a time, in the deep annals of Den Of Geek history, I interviewed the mighty Dolph Lundgren. I found him a fiercely intelligent, friendly man, and we got chatting about directing movies. I said to him that I genuinely admired anyone who could get a film made, and he seemed a little taken aback. “Thank you”, he said, “it’s more difficult than people think”.
And that’s why this article, even though it’s going to talk about some films that aren’t always particularly successful, is not going to come at you from a place of snark. Directing, after all, is hard, and our respect and admiration goes to those who tried it and who, for whatever reason, haven’t done so again. The way we see it?...

One of the most prominent Scottish actors of the 21st Century, Iain de Caestecker, is known for several roles that he has played in television and movies. The actor played in Shell, In Fear, and Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut Lost River, among other films. However, his most famous role is probably as Agent Leopold Fritz in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. The talented actor’s portrayal of this character is a very loyal interpretation of the original Fritz. In fact, his acting was good enough to win TVLine’s Performer of the Week in 2015 (and get another nomination in 2017) as well

Terrence Malick is one of the most influential filmmakers alive, with everyone from Christopher Nolan and David Gordon Green to John Hillcoat and Andrew Dominik citing him as an inspiration. To show the extent to which the “Badlands,” “The Thin Red Line,” and “The Tree of Life” director has left his mark on a generation of directors, Vimeo user Jacob T. Swinney made a video called “Not Directed by Terrence Malick” made up of shots from other filmmakers whose work bears a distinct resemblance to Malick’s. Watch below.

Johnny Jewel’s new album “Windswept” is now available to stream on Spotify, and among its 14 tracks are selections from the new season of “Twin Peaks.” We don’t actually know which songs actually feature in the long-awaited revival, of course — that would go against David Lynch’s well-earned philosophy of not telling anyone anything about it — but searching for meaning among hidden clues is nothing if not apropos of Lynch in general and “Twin Peaks” in particular.

One of the biggest upsets in Oscars history happened this year when La La Land was crowned best picture instead of Moonlight, the rightful winner. While many were visibly shocked, Ryan Gosling seemed unbothered as he smiled during the painfully awkward incident. During an interview with The Associated Press on Tuesday, the actor was asked about his reaction, to which he responded, "What can you say? I was very happy for Moonlight at the same time. It's such a wonderful film. It's great to see such great work acknowledged." The following day, Ryan spoke at Adobe Summit's digital marketing conference in Las Vegas, and furthered touched on the matter, saying it was "surreal" and he thought someone had been hurt as he "was watching people start to have this panicked reaction in the crowd and guys were coming on with headsets." "I thought there was some kind of medical situation,...

Damon Lindelof once described graphic novel The Underwater Welder as “the most spectacular episode of The Twilight Zone that was never produced,” and Ryan Gosling seems to agree, as he’s snapped up the rights to it. But cool your jets before you start visualizing Gosling in a skin-tight wetsuit wielding a blowtorch, as right now he’s only down to produce rather than star.
Gosling has been quietly producing films since 2010, with Blue Valentine, Only God Forgives and Lost River already under his belt, and The Underwater Welder looks like a sterling addition to the set. Once a beacon of 20th-century industry and prosperity, Detroit has fallen on hard times since the turn of the century, with 25 percent of its population leaving between 2000 and 2010. Rapid growth followed by rapid emptying has resulted in a city with areas and neighborhoods ripe with forgotten factories and forlorn dwellings, devoid of inhabitants. Burned-out apartment buildings and overgrown fields are like images out of a post-apocalyptic worst case scenario. It is not surprising, then, that Detroit has started to attract prominent filmmakers, including Jim Jarmusch (Only Lovers Left Alive) and Ryan Gosling (Lost River), who have used the crumbling metropolis as the backdrop for their own cinematic nightmares. Justine Smith writes about these films in an essay at RogerEbert.com titled “Detroit: The New City Of American Horror.”

A recommendation of Nicolas Winding Refn’s, The Neon Demon prompts the fact that it contains brutal body horror, a sexual moment with a dead body, and serialistic uses of filmmaking technique. That’s where a simple recommendation would end as the people repulsed by such things would walk away. For that, I can’t blame you. The Neon Demon, in full estimation, is a deviant film, perverted to its core in many ways. But it is still a great film.
The Neon Demon has a plot, but it seems rudimentary. This is a filmmaking experiment carrying a deft and hard hitting message. Jesse (Elle Fanning) arrives in Los Angeles to become a model. She soon meets others lead by Ruby (Jena Malone) and slowly falls into the fearful, serene, and lustful world of the L.A. fashion industry.
But, again that’s all rudimentary. The Neon Demon...

In a very Harmony Korine kind-of-way, feature-debuter Felix Thompson spotlights the pain of maturation in his Tribeca Audience Award winner, King Jack.
Well, maybe “pain” isn’t the right word. Humbling humility? Hormonal rampage? Award social excursion through the bowels of embarrassment and conflict? A child coming-of-age is often thought of as a beautiful thing, but Thompson’s honest suburban tussle pays homage to the licks that shaped our makeup. I should mention how Thompson carves a sweet tale of family and friendship, but growing up ain’t easy – we like to reminisce about the good, while burying the pain. Necessary pain that molds, shapes, and baptizes our better-selves by fire.
