Looking over George Lucas' filmography, one can find no films set in the present day. Indeed, only one of Lucas' feature films is set in the future, and his "Thx 1138" is a dystopian hellscape of corporate control and utter emotionlessness. His other five directorial efforts are all set in the past, where youth was enjoyable and heroes existed in distant galaxies (even if "American Graffiti" was set just a decade before its release date). The past was bright. It's the future we have to be suspicious of.
Lucas once said that he was influenced by Arthur Lipsett's 1964 short film "21-87," a heady, abstract film about how humanity has reached an inflection point, and that society is now officially primed for collapse. This film, however obscure, offers a handy primer on Lucas' entire body of work. If there is a hero's journey to be had, it belongs in the ancient world.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, "Robot Chicken" creators Seth Green and Matthew Senreich were working on "Star Wars Detours." Similar to their fan-favorite stop motion animated sketch show on Adult Swim, they were taking one of the biggest franchises in all of pop culture and telling the story of what happened in the "Star Wars" universe between the prequel trilogy and the original trilogy through an over-the-top and goofy lens.
While franchise stars like Ahmed Best, Billy Dee Williams, and Anthony Daniels were returning to voice their legendary characters, the rest of the voices were provided...

It’s enough to wonder why Disney does certain things and then pulls away from others, but it’s also a little frustrating when we’re given glimpses of what the Mouse House could have released and decided not to. Star Wars: Detours looks pretty hilarious in a lot of ways and yet, thanks to Disney’s decision not to air it, at least not yet, the chance that we’ll see it at all feels like it might be next to nil. Any and all outrage concerning this development is kind of hard to muster even though it would be all kinds of great

Remember that animated Star Wars series from the Robot Chicken team, Star Wars: Detours? Well, Lucasfilm has renewed the trademark. Why? I have no idea, but I hope it means that one day it will see the light of day! If you need a reminder of what the series is about, here's the synopsis:
Star Wars Detours is an animated comedy that explores what daily life is like in a galaxy far, far away. There are no Empires striking back or attacking clones here. Instead, Star Wars Detours focuses on the universe’s regular folks and their everyday problems… which, to be fair, do frequently involve famous bounty hunters, crazed Ewoks, and even a Dark Lord of the Sith.Welcome to Star Wars: Detours: the other side of the stars, between the wars.
It's been six years since Lucasfilm announced the series at Star Wars Celebration in 2012. The comedy...

It's been announced that Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) has been cast in a recurring role in Season 2 of the animated series Star Wars Rebels. Executive producer/supervising director Dave Filoni said, “We're thrilled to have Sarah Michelle Gellar on board for season 2. She is a true 'Star Wars Rebels' fan and her passion undoubtedly comes through in the voice recording sessions.”
Hopefully Sarah Michelle Gellar's character arc will last for many episodes, because selling the long-term emotional resonance of the title character's ongoing struggles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer was one of the key strengths of her iconic seven-year performance as Buffy Summers. And with all new Star Wars (from Star Wars Rebels onwards) said to be inter-connected in story terms, who knows what other instalments of the franchise the character could appear in?

Various Star Wars movies, games and TV shows have been canned over the years. The Force was not strong with these...
The Star Wars universe is a dangerous place. For example, ‘man walks into a bar’ gags in Mos Eisley tend to end with unwarranted threats, droid racism, limbs being chopped off, impromptu deaths or – worst of all – rigorous re-editing.
Until the recent Disney buy-out, the world created by George Lucas was just as treacherous for seemingly-exciting projects. Lucasfilm/LucasArts, for a time, became notorious for the number of cancellations under its belt, with films, TV shows and game ideas constantly being chucked out at various stages of their development.
But when did the term ‘countless’ ever stop us trying to count things? Never, that’s when. So we donned a pointy-hooded robe and scoured the desert wilderness of the internet to bring you what we hope is a complete...

Seth Green has offered an update on the Star Wars: Detours animated series he was working on. After Disney bought Lucasfilm the series was put on hold, and we've been waiting to see what its fate will be. It sounds like the series will eventually see the light of day, we just have to be patient. The actor also reveals that they have 39 completed episodes sitting on the shelf and another 62 scripts ready to go into production. Here's what Green had to say in a Reddit Q&A,
"So there’s actually been quite a bit of talk about this, but Detours is just on hold currently. We have 39 finished episodes and around 62 finished scripts. But that entire show was created before the decision to make more Star Wars movies, so our show (which was created by George Lucas) is an animated sitcom in the world of Star Wars, so...

If you've ever wanted to see Oz (the werewolf) and Dawn (the Key) from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" making out, then we've got something extra special for you!
If you're like us, you find the whole idea kind of distasteful. Even though Seth Green and Michelle Trachtenberg's stints on "Buffy" did not overlap, Oz and Dawn snogging just seems... wrong.
But we believe in Seth and Michelle and fully support their endeavors (we especially lament the fact that we might not get to see Seth's "Star Wars: Detours" for a long, long time). So let's try to put the icky feelings aside and enjoy this exclusive clip from the crime thriller "Sexy Evil Genius."
"Sexy Evil Genius," which also stars Katee Sackhoff, William Baldwin and Harold Perrineau, will be available on DVD, VOD and digital download on April 9th.

Cartoon Network lost another established winner Monday after Lucasfilm pulled the plug on Star Wars: Clone Wars.
StarWars.com released this statement announcing that they’re not producing any new episodes for Cartoon Network. Lucasfilm has also postponed the animated comedy series, Star Wars: Detours that was being developed by the Robot Chicken crew of Seth Green, Matthew Senreich, and Todd Grimes. Now that Episodes VII-ix is in full swing, it looks like everything else is taking the back seat.
Clone Wars Supervising Director Dave Filoni had this to say to Clone Wars fans:

“It’s not over yet, in fact the best is yet to come, we have some of the most exciting, most important story arcs still coming your way. Now, what could there be left to tell? Diehard fans of the series know there are still some gaps in there,...

The Star Wars universe is moving forward into a brave new era, and that means it’s time for a good old-fashioned brand scrub. Following the news that newly-Disneyfied Lucasfilm is delaying the 3D re-release of Episodes II and III, the company announced today that they are ending production of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the Cartoon Network series that spent five seasons earning raves — raves that were all variations of “Well, at least it’s better than the last few movies.”

This is a sad, sad day for fans of Star Wars animated franchise title, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Namely, it looks like Lucasfilm has plans to shut down the series that had a successful five-season run. No new episodes will be produced for Cartoon Network, but some story arcs are being developed and will be available elsewhere as bonus material (I’m guessing that refers to the ‘missing two episodes of the final season – every season so far had 22 episodes, while this last one has twenty). After George Lucas sold his Star Wars universe to Disney, many projects outside the movie franchise were left open-ended, awaiting the fate of the new masters at the House of Mouse.
One high profile animated series was Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which was produced for The Cartoon Network. The series was in production of its fifth season when the sale went through, and many fans have speculated what would happen to it after it ended its run this March.
Now we’ve got confirmation that the Clone Wars series will not return for a sixth season. Also, another animated series announced before the sale, a comedy created by Robot Chicken actor Seth Green called Star Wars: Detours, will never get off the ground.
Despite the end of the always creative Star Wars: Clone Wars series, some story arcs, however, are being developed and will be available elsewhere as bonus material.

Throughout the week, we'll be presenting the Heroes of the Year, our list of individuals who made a major impact on the comic book movie community in 2012.
Our final hero of the year is the director behind the most successful comic book adaptation of all time: Joss Whedon. Honoring him is one of Whedon's frequent collaborators, Jane Espenson, co-creator of the web series "Husbands," among other projects.
Being asked about the impact Joss Whedon has had on comic book movies is like being asked about the impact the moon landing had on moon exploration. What Joss did with comic book movies in "The Avengers" is the same thing he did with teen horror in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and space opera in "Firefly."
Joss can take an alien, a god, a hero, a robot, or a fictional teenaged girl, and know what this being, in this situation, would say and do if they were real.

How’s this for a milestone: This February, The Venture Bros. will celebrate its 10-year anniversary. One of the defining shows on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim line-up, the show is coincidentally returning for its fifth season in early 2013. Before that, though, fans of the show can enjoy a special episode airing just in time for the spookiest holiday of the year. A Very Venture Halloween will air on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 11:30. Co-creators Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer will be at New York Comic-Con tomorrow talking about the future of the series, but EW has obtained an exclusive clip from the Halloween special.

Leave it to Seth Green and the hoodlums over at Robot Chicken to dredge up old school icons of pop culture. Their latest subject, Street Fighter, hasn’t been topical in a decade, but that doesn’t mean it’s safe from stop-motion skewering. This clip imagines what it might actually be like to organize the game’s assortment of beef-headed brawlers and otherworldly ape men. Ryu assumes the unfortunate role of talent agent/tour manager, desperately trying to coordinate the other characters’ fight schedules with the help of an information packet. Over the last month we've seen the first trailer and a bunch of clips from Seth Green and Matthew Senreich's new Star Wars animated sitcom, Star Wars: Detours. I wasn't sure about it at first, but the more I've seen from it the more it's grown on me, and I'm excited to see where it goes. It looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. How can it not be?! It's from the guys that brought us the Robot Chicken awesomeness!
From what we've seen we get a sense of what the point of the series is and where it's going. It's a little unclear who the audience is for this... kids? Adults? This question is answered in a recent interview with IGN in which Senreich said, "George said it best: it’s a little young for the older people and a little old for the younger people.
