One Of The Best Season Finales I Have Ever Seen!
ohalwai8 May 2012
********CONTAINS SPOILERS********* Whoooaaaaa!!! What an episode! In Hindi Film parlance, this had all the ingredients of what is called a "Masala" Script. But it had one attributes which made everything come together seamlessly- FINESSE. Although the final (rather, finally) coming together of Castle and Beckett was expected, the architecture of the whole episode leading to the climax was excellent. The scene where Castle finally expresses his feelings is undoubtedly the finest scene of Nathan Fillion in the entire series. He expresses a gamut of emotions - love, fear, anger and finally detachment with such ease, that his simplicity just blows you away. The scenes between Esposito and Ryan have also been done well. A special mention should be made for the climax sequence. The speech of Alexis, the music montage, the mixture of feelings flowing around- Ah! What Mastery!!!! I have seen quite a few season finales..... and this stands up there with the best. Hope the next season is the final one..... As it is said... Endings are inevitable.

This will be the best 40 minutes of your day

Warning: Spoilers
I generally prefer British Crime shows where the plot seems to be more unique, the characters more realistic and the mystery-solving more engaging. However Castle has always been and will always be in my top five favorite TV show list. The reason why its rated so high is because of the central characters. Not as realistic as a few of the British hard-boiled detectives; Detective Kate Beckett, Richard Castle, Detective Esposito and Ryan are not only super entertaining but you also feel like you have got to know them so well. This is a non-spoiler review, but it is a finale of a season and like the finale's of Seasons 1, 2, 3 of Castle, the relationship of Beckett and Castle is one of factors which give the episode its "epic" feel. Its more than that, it shows how clever the creators of the show actually are. They know where they're going (something which I have a feeling the Bones creators didn't have). I wouldn't be surprised if Andrew Marlowe had in a locked safe a refill pad saying "Castle TV Show outline Seasons 1-8. Its very difficult to talk that much about the plot of the story without mentioning spoilers but I will say that it is a Johanna Beckett story-line and also a follow on from Knockout. If you just stumble upon this episode and plan to watch it you need to beware you need to have watched Season 1 episode "Death in the family" Season 2 episode "Sucker Punch", Season Three episodes "Knockdown and "Knockout" and Season Four episode "Rise". Also a lot of the themes and and build up of the episode is shown through Season Four. Nathan Fillion has undoubtedly the single best acting moment in his entire career around the 22-25 Minute mark of the show which will leave you glued to the television. All of the regulars are at the top of the game, Molly Quinn's Alexis has a nice side-plot with planning the perfect speech and the Martha is as her self, awesome. Ryan and Esposito continue America's favorite Bromance as well. I've got the impression that Marlowe and the writer's are very aware of the fans of this series, which can only be a good thing. They released the Nikki Heat novels and the Derrick Storm graphic novels as well as having their eye firmly on the 'Moonlighting' curse. I promise you, you will enjoy this episode.

Good thing I didn't hold my breath

Warning: Spoilers
I confess, the 10-star rating should not be taken too seriously. Sure, this show deserves a high rating but in that case I'm just glad I finally got to see what I'd been waiting for since the last episode of season 1. Was I frustrated, when the story just wouldn't develop like I wanted it to throughout season 2 and 3. I mean the episodes were always excellent entertainment, But. They. Just. Wouldn't. Kiss. Until now... So, what rating does the show really deserve? I'd say a solid 8. It's easily one of my most favorite TV shows. There's plenty of humor, some well-drawn characters (beside the two leads) and always some very imaginative plot. But I wished the show would have made more room for the other two detectives (Ryan and Esposito) or the coroner. They were great characters, but they were given so few opportunities to shine. And shone they would have. This is what's so great about Bones. I mean even Daisy gets more screen time than Esposito. Apart from that the show is perfect. Congratulations to the people who created the show. Castle is (was?) a diamond among dozens of pieces of ordinary coal (other shows). Thank you, I've had a great time!

Season finale
LoveIsAStateOfMind29 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Okay so that episode definitely lived up to expectations.

Wow.

I say it every time but I watch Castle for the big episodes. Castle does the big episodes awesomely.

Where to start? RYAN! RYAN! WTF Esposito? Ryan was the only one who had his head on straight. If it wasn't for Ryan then Beckett would have died, DIED. Am I the only one who thinks he's the real hero in all this?!?! But I loved Esposito too. I loved the fact that Esposito and Ryan were both trying to do the right thing by Beckett in their own way. Loved the dynamic between the two guys in this episode.

Gah! I loved the Castle/Beckett moment when he invited her over to watch films and his surprise that she said yes. THE 'I LOVE YOU' SCENE IN HER APARTMENT. Perfection. Heartbreaking. GAH. Can't really put my feelings into words.

Beckett sitting on the swings soaking wet! And of course the scene in Castle's apartment. Yes she is ridiculously hot when her hair is all wet. Yeah, I noticed. I love that she was the one who initiated it all. I love everything that was said or wasn't said. I love the way they filmed it. The hand-hold. 'IN MY VEINS' PLAYING.

I loved everything in this episode down to the scene between Beckett and the gang thug and the way they filmed Beckett chasing Evil Guy on the rooftop and the panoramic views.

It was one of those episodes where I would be quite content if the series ended right now because nothing that comes after can possibly live up to the "getting together" moment (and you all know my interest tends to quickly wane after a couple has actually got together). But still, excellent writing of the episode as a whole - usually episodes about Beckett's mother tends to lose me with its complexity but even I managed to get my head around everything that happened in this episode and what it means for the future.

Unquenched Yet Longing For More

Warning: Spoilers
***SPOILER ALERT***

Like many of the true devoted fans of Castle, I headed into the season 4 finale with the sole purpose of seeing how/if Beckett and Castle's relationship would progress. It definitely progressed to say the least (they finally took the step past the point of no return). Unlike many I found that keeping the romantic/sexual tension building for 4 YEARS really kept me interested and when I started to get fed up with waiting for them to take the next step it was at the same time that our main characters did, truly putting me in their shoes. However I felt the writers did a uncharacteristically horrendous job writing the single most significant and anticipated moment in the history of the show. Although Beckett clearly acted out of passion, I don't think they allotted a proper amount of time to truly give the scene the the importance it deserved. It was more sexually then emotionally charged, which in 99 percent of situations I think is a positive, except in this instance considering there relationship is as emotionally strong as one could be. It also seemed a little bit like Beckett was drunk? and Castle wasn't fully into it at first. There needed to be more dialogue!

Although I was not happy with how this happened, I am still as excited as anyone for the premier of season 5 where we get to experience them waking up together and all of the gossip and uncomfortable situations/ funny banter that follow. Love the show, didn't love this season finale nearly as much as the others, but can't wait for season 5!

Four years just waiting for you to open your eyes and see I'm right here

Warning: Spoilers
Great plot thickening finale of wonderful S4 of Castle , (even to be honest some previous episodes seemed like much fillers up to the finale), it had amazing dscenes and performances from the lead actors, especially Nathan! I know he and Castle's character most of the time comes off as this comedic, dorky sidekick but this episode shows perfectly how his character has developed these past seasons. That emotiomal speech scene at Beckett's apartment - wow, brought tears to my eyes. And then of course the long waited "will they or wont they get together" kiss! Amazing. Totally worth of the four seasons! 🙏🏼

'Non Bonum Satis'
lee_d102 July 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Throughout the four seasons we have watched with immense enthusiasm the development of the Beckett/Castle romance , waiting for them to break free from the captivity of the 'its complicated' status. The series , until the last episode of season four is saturated with a plethora of disrupted intimacies, unrequited feeling and silent suffering , therefore building on the inevitable expectation that accompanies the wait for an intense heated expression of love between the two characters. There came a point in the middle of season four wherein i became fed up of waiting for them , the relationship between Kate and Rick became my sole interest and when that thirst was not quenched the show became mundane coaxing me to ponder upon giving up. But i trudged on until the season four finale and much to my relief they get together.'Relief' that is what i felt. In my opinion it was dragged for too long and the intimate 'steamy' scene in 'Always' ,i deduced to be ultimately unsatisfying and inadequate. I expected much more than what they gave us , keeping in mind the amount of time it took to reach that point.

The episode , all-in-all was quite good , what with the sporadic action and the beguiling case matter. An uncooked meal for the romantics and a lavish banquet for the adrenaline junkies , Castle promises an unpredictable fifth season.

Worst Episode of the Series
ANannyMoose023 January 2022
How is this not the lowest rated episode? It's unbearable! Bad editing, bad story writing, bad character acting. The actors' characters were inconsistent with how they have acted throughout the series. It felt like a fan fiction story directed by the idiot who does CSI Miami.

Why do the start and end great seasons with such garbage???
abcprivateemail23 August 2022
They had a great show from episode 2 to the penultimate episode of each season, but then would ruin it with the season finale and 1st episode by making it a godawful cheesy soap-opera too-serious, overdramatic cliché fest. Happened end of season 3, start of season 4, now end of season 4 again.
