  Carrie Wells : [seeing the defensive wounds]  Looks like she put up a fight. Good for you.

• Al Burns : You met a guy last night who is now a person of interest in a murder investigtion.

  Carrie Wells : Yes, I know that. I'm not an idiot. I'm the one who gave you his name.

  Al Burns : Right, and I'm just asking you to find out more about Dal Bello.

  Carrie Wells : You've gotten it into your head that this is Mob related, okay, and on some level, you want it to be.

  Al Burns : No, I want to find out who killed Francine Palmer.

  Carrie Wells : So do I.

  Al Burns : And by the way, if you didn't know Steve Cioffi and you heard Dal Bello was at this party, you'd be all over the Mob angle. Look, you don't want to talk to your boyfriend, I get it. I'll talk to him.

  Carrie Wells : No, you're not talking to him.

  Al Burns : I'll go right now.

  Carrie Wells : [blocking his way]  You are not talking to him. I'll go.

  Al Burns : Thank you.

  Carrie Wells : You can be a real bastard, you know that?

  Al Burns : I try.

• Joanne Webster : Water in the lungs, definitely drowned in the tub. But there's facial and tracheal bruising and other signs of strangulation. Plus, some serious blunt-force trauma to the abdomen. This poor thing was beaten pretty badly before she died.

  Carrie Wells : Any idea what the weapon was?

  Joanne Webster : Well... there's petechial bruising around the neck, which would indicate that she was choked with some sort of flexible ligature before she went under.

  Carrie Wells : I'm thinking this is not a crime of passion.

  Joanne Webster : No, no. This was a "make a point" killing.

  Carrie Wells : Yeah. Question is, make a point to who?

• Carrie Wells : [watching Al and Detective Vega argue]  This doesn't look good.

  Mike Costello : What, you can read lips, too?

  Carrie Wells : Oh, I can read Al.

  Roe Saunders : Well, she's right. He's making the squinchy face.

  Roe Saunders : You know, that thing when you ask for a day off? He's all...

• Carrie Wells : You've had me under surveillance?

  Al Burns : OCID's been looking at Steve Cioffi for the past six months. Imagine their surprise when a Queens detective turns up as his dinner date.

  Carrie Wells : Hey, my personal life is none of their business, hers, or yours.

  Al Burns : No, but his is, and you gotta admit, it looks a little fishy when Dal Bello ends up dead right after you talk to Cioffi! Carrie... what do you really know about this guy? 'Cause I'm getting an education here, all right? The restaurant he runs? It was bought at a substantial discount from one of his father's closest advisors, Sammy "The Boot" Paluzzo, with money, by the way, of dubious origin. Half his employees are convicted felons either just out of prison or on parole.

  Carrie Wells : Nothing illegal about hiring ex-convicts. In fact, he helps them get them back on track.

  Al Burns : Or he's running a halfway house for wiseguys.

  Carrie Wells : I checked his record. He's clean.

  Al Burns : Carrie, he's clean... he's so clean, it makes my teeth ache.
